Education is not an end, but a means. In other words ,we do not educate children only for the purpose of educating them .Our purpose is to fit them for life.
In some modern countries it has for some time been fashionable(時興的)to think that by free education for all--whether rich or poor , clever or stupid --one can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation. But we can already see that free education for all is not enough; we find in such countries a far larger number of people with university degrees ,they refuse to do what they think "low "work and , in fact ,work with hands is thought to be dirty and shameful in such countries .But we have only to think a moment to understand that the work of a completely uneducated , farmer is far more important than that of a professor, we can live without education, but we die if we have no food. If no one cleaned our streets and took the rubbish away from our houses , we should get terrible diseases in our towns...
In fact, when we say that all of us must be educated to fit us for life , it means that we must be educated in such a way that , firstly each of us can do whatever work suited to his brains and ability and secondly that we can realize that all jobs are necessary to society , and that is very bad to be ashamed of one's work . Only such a type of education can be considered valuable to society.

Physics is a different world now. Will there ever be another Einstein?

Scientists say a new Einstein will appear, but it may take a long time. After all, more than 200 years separated Einstein from his nearest rival(對手) ,Isaac Newton.

Many physicists say the next Einstein hasn't been born yet, or is only a baby now. That's because the searching for a unified (統(tǒng)一的) theory that would explain all the forces of nature has pushed current mathematics to its limits. New math must be created before the problem can be solved

But researchers say there are many other factors working against another Einstein appearing anytime soon.

For one thing, physics is quite a different field today. In Einstein's day, there were a few thousand physicists worldwide, and fewer theoreticians.

Education is different, too. One extremely important aspect of Einstein's training that failed to consider is the philosophy he read as a teenager. It taught him how to think theoretically about space and time.

And he was a skilled musician. The interplay between music and math is well known. Einstein would fiercely play his violin as a way to think through a knotty physics problem.

Today, universities have produced millions of physicists. There aren't many jobs in science for them, so they go to Wall Street and Silicon Valley to apply their analytical skills to more practical and rewarding efforts.

Besides, those who stay in science don't work alone. It's very difficult to imagine an independent person like Einstein ever tolerating this.

Commodities(日用品)are basic materials that are used and traded worldwide. The price of commodities helps determine how much a business can charge for a product and the profit it can make.Commodity prices have reached a two-year high since falling sharply during the world financial crisis.

Hard commodities are materials like iron ore, oil and gold.Agricultural products are soft commodities. These include wheat, cotton and rice.

Economic measures show the world economy is recovering.China and India, for example, have reported strong growth in manufacturing(制造業(yè)).Developed nations have had slower growth.John James, a business professor at Pace University, says demand in developing economics can push up prices for commodities like oil and iron are used for making steel. But, he says, changing currency values can also influence prices.

Gold prices have reached record levels in recent months. That means gold dealers must pay more for the commodity now than they did only a year ago. That affects current prices.

Not surprisingly, manufacturers want some control over the prices they pay for commodities.Futures(期貨)contracts are agreements between a buyer and a seller to exchange something at a set price at some time in the future. These contracts let buyers lock in a price for basic materials. But some traders in futures markets only want to make a profit. They buy or sell contracts depending on the direction they believe prices will go.These speculators(投機者)get condemned when prices rise, or fall, too quickly. The United States, Germany and France are looking into ways to limit this kind of trading.

Some experts say exporting commodities is not a good path to long-term economic growth. The United Nations recently reported that the least developed countries must change their economics to provide good incomes for their citizens.A UN official says the least developed countries need to cut dependence on commodities and manufacture products for export. He says only this will let them gain from world trade.
