University — the best days of my life! I made lots of friends in my student dorm, went to great parties, joined the debating society... and, well, I did some work too — but I must admit that my lecturers were very patient with my tardiness (拖沓).

It is easy to look back at our university days in good ways but the truth is that when we first arrived on campus, most of us were out of our comfort zone. In fact, a survey of students at Imperial College London has showed that 3 out of 4 students experience high levels of stress, or a mental health condition, during their time at college. The survey, conducted by over a thousand students, also found that 70% of those that experience stress do so at least once a week, and 9% of them feel stressed constantly.

Kristy, a student at Exeter University, didn’t enjoy her first days in college. She says: “When I first got to university I don’t think I’d realized that I’d forgotten how to make friends. I’d been with the same school friends for seven years, and so I was trying to balance social success with academic success while learning how to look after myself at quite at a young age."

Dr. Ruth Caleb of the counseling service at Brunei University in London has some tips that should make life easier for students before they set off for university. She says: “Certain things that I think it would be very helpful for students to have put in place are an ability to do the practical things of life — to do the washing, to do the cleaning and so on— being able to cook. Budgeting(預(yù)算) is extremely important in university life.” And Caleb adds: “You should learn how to spend time on your own comfortably.”

I graduated and learnt how to take care of myself the hard way. I hope that new students these days remember to acquire some life skills before they make the big jump.

Next year the U.S. National Park Service will turn 100. The 100th anniversary (周年紀(jì)念日)will be celebrated across the nation.

Sally Jewell, Secretary of the Interior of the United States, started a new program called “Find Your Park.” She said being outside helps both children and adults in today’s computer-driven world.

“In this society, where we’ve got much information at out fingertips, and things to distract(分散……注意力)our brains, there is little to distract our bodies and that’s why parks and open spaces are so important and even more important with each passing year,” Jewell said.

From beautiful lands and mountains to historical and cultural places, national parks can be found in all 50 states across the U.S. The parks had nearly 293 million visits in 2014. The Golden Gate Park in San Francisco was the most popular with 15 million visits. There are 28 different kinds of national park, and each park has an important story to tell.

Jewell has invited some famous Americans to help the anniversary. American First Lady Michelle Obama and former First Lady Laura Bush were invited to share their national park stories, because the White House is one of the country’s national parks.

Mrs. Obama encouraged “people across the country to ‘Find Your Park,’ whether it’s in your backyard, or your hometown, or in one of our beautiful national parks.”

Some well-known Americans have filmed their own personal national park stories and they can be seen on National Park Foundation website. Bill Nye, known as “The Science Guy,” and actress Bella Thorne are two of the people who have shared their personal national park stories.

The program wants the public to share park experiences and memories at FindYourPark.com. The website helps people find a park near their home, not just national parks, but local parks as well.

“It’s really all about getting people outside and moving as well as getting them to recognize(認(rèn)識(shí))what parks and public lands have to offer,” Jewell said.

1.What’s the purpose of the program “Find Your Park”?

A. To get more people to connect with public lands.

B. To make sure people live in a healthy outdoor life.

C. To raise money for the 100th anniversary.

D. To keep children and adults away from computers

2.In Jewell’s opinion, parks and open spaces ______.

A. are good for helping brains to get information

B. have a big influence on people’s lives

C. are hard to attract human beings

D. help keep people’s attention

3.The national parks in the U.S. _____.

A. are the nation’s main tourist attraction

B. have one story teller for each park

C. are popular across the nation

D. cover a few of its states

4.Famous people are helping the anniversary by ____.

A. sharing their national park experiences

B. filming people in the national parks

C. building parks in their backyards

D. helping people to find a park near their home

You’re in a department store and you see a couple of attractive young women looking at a sweater. You listen to their conversation:

"I can't believe it-Lorenzo Bertolla! They are almost impossible to find. Isn't it beautiful? And it's a lot cheaper than the one Sara bought in Rome."

They leave and you go over to see this incredible sweater. It's nice and the price is right. You've never heard of Lorenzo Bertolla, but those girls looked really stylish. They must know. So, you buy it. You never realize that those young women are employees of an advertising agency. They are actually paid to go from store to store, talking loudly about Lorenzo Bertolla clothes.

Every day we notice what people are wearing, driving and eating. If the person looks cool, the product seems cool, too. This is the secret of undercover marketing. Companies from Ford to Nike are starting to use it.

Undercover marketing is important because it reaches people that don't pay attention to traditional advertising. This is particularly true of the MTV generation-consumers between the age of 18 and 34. It's a golden group. They have a lot of money to spend, but they don't trust ads.

So advertising agencies hire young actors to "perform" in bars and other places where young adults go. Some people might call this practice misleading, but marketing executive Jonathan Ressler calls it creative. "Look at traditional advertising. Its effectiveness is decreasing." It is true, because everyone knows an ad is trying to persuade you to buy something. However, you don't know when a conversation you overhear is just a performance.

1. The two attractive young women were talking so that they could _____.

A. get the sweater at a lower price

B. decide on buying the sweater

C. be admired by other shoppers

D. be heard by people around

2. Lorenzo Bertolla is _____.

A. a very popular male singer

B. an advertising agency

C. the brand name of clothes

D. a clothing company in Rome

3. What can we infer from the passage?

A. Traditional advertising will soon disappear in the market.

B. The MTV generation tends to be more easily influenced by all kinds of ads.

C. Undercover marketing will surely be banned soon by the government.

D. That traditional advertising is too direct may lead to its decreasing effectiveness.

4. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A. Two Attractive Shoppers

B. Lorenzo Bertolla Sweaters

C. Undercover Marketing

D. Ways of Advertising
