Teamwork is just as important in science as it is on the playing field or in the gym. Scientific investigations (調(diào)查) are almost always carried out by teams of people working together. Thirdly, always work together, take turns, and encourage each other by listening, clarifying, and trusting one another. Mutual support and trust often make a great difference.
Activities like investigations are most effective when done by small groups. Here are some more suggestions for effective team performance during these activities: Make sure each group member understands and agrees to the task given to him or her, and everyone knows exactly when, why and what to do; take turns doing various tasks during similar and repeated activities; be aware of where other group members are and what they are doing so as to ensure safety; be responsible for your own learning, though it is by no means unwise to compare your observations with those of other group members.
When there is research to be done, divide the topic into several areas, and this can explore the issue in a very detailed way. You are encouraged to keep records of the sources used each person, which helps you trace back to the origin of the problems that may happen unexpectedly. A format for exchanging information (e.g. photocopies of notes, oral discussion, etc.) is also important, for a well-chosen method not only strengthens what you present but also makes yourself easily understood. When the time comes to make a decision and take a position on an issue, allow for the contributions of each member of the group. Most important of all, it is always wise to make decisions by compromise and agreement.
After you’ve completed a task with your team, make an evaluation of the team’s effectiveness — the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges.

Hu Peng from Wuhan and four of his friends decided to find out. Earlier this month, they went to live for a week in Caidian, a village near Wuhan. On April 12, the team gave a report to their class. They told about many differences between children's lives in cities and those of children in villages. The biggest difference is about independence. Hu's team found that 60 percent of city kids can't do much housework, but 90 percent of village kids can care for themselves.
City kids told Hu they care about schoolwork a lot, and they have no time for washing clothes or making their beds. Village kids said they help their parents a lot : cooking, cleaning the houses and feeding pigs. Hu's team also found that village kids have less pocket money. Many have never used computers. They like playing in rivers or on mountains. Some don't even like to make new friends.
Hu and his friends said their trip gave them more self- confidence (自信) because they have done something by themselves. American researchers say drinking tea may help strengthen the body’s defense system against infection(感染).Doctors at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston,Massachusetts,did the study.The team studied a chemical found in black,green,oolong and pekoe tea This chemical is an amino acid(氨基酸)called L-theanine.The scientists say it may increase the strength of Gamma delta T cells,which are part of the body’s defenses.
First,the researchers mixed some of these cells with antigens(抗原)found in the amino acid Antigens help the body react to infection.Then the scientists added some bacteria(細菌).

Two weeks later,and again two weeks after that,the researchers tested the blood of all twenty-one people.They also looked at what happened when they added bacteria to the blood cells.They found that the tea drinkers produced five times more interferon after they started drinking tea The coffee drinkers did not produce interferon.
Doctor Jack Bukowski led the study He says the antigens added to the Gamma delta T cells were responsible for the increased reaction to the bacteria.He says the study also showed that the cells were able to remember the bacteria and fight them again the next time.
Earlier research already has found that tea can help prevent heart disease and cancer Doctor Bukowski says the new study must be repeated with more people.If the findings prove to be true,he says,then tea drinking might also help protect against bacterial infections.He says the amino acid L-theanine could be removed from tea and used as a drug to strengthen the body’s defenses.
