B
One of my fondest memories as a child is going by the river and sitting idly on the bank. There I would enjoy the peace and quiet, watch the water rush downstream and listen to the chirps of birds and the rustling of leaves in the trees. I would also watch the bamboo(竹子) trees bend under pressure from the wind and watch them return gracefully to their upright or original position after the wind had died down.
When I think about the bamboo tree’s ability to bounce back or return to its original position, the word resilience (恢復(fù)力)comes to mind.  When used in reference to a person, this word means the ability to readily recover from shock, depression or any other situation that stretches the limits of a person’s emotions.
Have you ever felt like you are about to snap(突然折斷)? Have you ever felt like you are at your breaking point? Thankfully, you have survived the experience to live to talk about it.
During the experience you probably felt a mix of emotions that threatened your health. You felt emotionally drained, mentally exhausted and you most likely endured(忍耐) unpleasant physical symptoms(癥狀).
Life is a mixture of good times and bad times, happy moments and unhappy moments. The next time you are experiencing one of those bad times or unhappy moments that take you close to your breaking point, bend, but don’t break. Try your best not to let the situation get the best of you.
If the going gets tough and you are at your breaking point, show resilience. Like the bamboo tree, bend, but don’t break!
60.When the writer talks about the bamboo trees, he wants to tell us          .
A.he can’t forget those bamboo trees
B.he used to watch them bend under pressoure and return to their upright position
C.he still remembers the good days as a child
D.he admires the character of the bamboo trees
61.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.When you have overcome some depression, you show resilience.
B.When you are about to snap, we say you are resilient.
C.If you feel like you are at your breaking point, you are fortunate.
D.If you feel mentally exhausted, you are likely to experience pleasant physical symptoms.
62.What does the writer mean by saying “Try your best not to let the situation get the best of you?”
A.You should make the best of the situation.
B.You should try your best to get the best situation.
C.You should try your best not to be defeated by the situation.
D.You should try your best not to give up the best situation.
63.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.My fondest memories     B.Good times and bad times
C.Enjoy the peace and quiet       D.Bend, but don’t break

When my father was getting ready for work, our house was ruled by knocks and words. He used to come
downstairs to breakfast.
The morning paper lay beside his plate. He always read the'Deaths'first; and then he knocked once on the
table. One of my sisters brought his toast (烤面包片), already buttered for him. Usually he said nothing, but
once I heard him say, "I love you very much, Edith. I would love you more if you buttered my toast on both
sides." He read the paper all through breakfast.
Two knocks on the table meant 'I am ready for my tea'. If a single knock followed, that meant 'More toast,
please.' After breakfast he said, "Boots." The paper was spread (展開) for him over the back of an armchair.
Yesterday's paper was put on the chair for his feet, and his boots were brought to him, freshly cleaned. He
read standing, at the same time putting on his boots and tying the laces (鞋帶). With one boot finished, he
said, "Bus."
At that point one of the girls went outside to the garden gate and waited there. Her job was to stop the bus
when it came. It came early sometimes, and it had to wait for my father. "Overcoat, hat." One of my sisters
had already brushed his overcoat. Now she held it open for him and guided his arms into it. Then she pulled
his jacket down under the coat. Another girl came with his hat, nicely brushed. "Handkerchief, pipe." They
were brought and put, with his tobacco, into his pockets. He looked out of the window and said either
'Walking stick' or 'Umbrella'. It was handed to him. Ready now, he was still reading the paper.
He did not put it down until he heard the shout "Bus coming!" Then he kissed my mother and went out.
The girls breathed freely.
How lucky a man is to have a wife and five daughters at home!

"How lucky you are to be a doctor..." Anyone who's a doctor is right out of luck, I thought. Anyone who's studying medicine should have his head examined.
You may think I want to change my job. Well, at the moment I do. As one of my friends says-even doctors have a few friends-it's all experience. Experience! I don't need such experience. I need a warm, comfortable, undisturbed bed of my own. I need it badly. I need all telephones to be thrown down the nearest well, that's what I need.
All these thoughts fly round my head as I drive my Mini (微型汽車) through the foggy streets of East London at 3?45 a. m. on a December morning. I am a ministering angel in a Mini with a heavy coat and a bag of medicines. As I speed down Lea Bridge in the dark at this horrible morning hour, the heater first blowing hot then cold, my back aching from the carseat, I do not feel like a ministering angel. I wish I were on the beach in Southern France. Call me a bad doctor if you like. Call me what you will. But don't call me at half past three on a December morning for an earache that you have had for two weeks.
Of course, being a doctor isn't really all bad. We do have our moments. Once in a while people are ill, once in a while you can help, once in a while you get given a cup of tea and rockhard cake at two o'clock in the morning-then you worry if you have done everything. But all too often 'everything' is a repeating rule: look, listen, feel, tap. Pills, injection, phone, ambulance, away to the next.
And then there is always the cool, warm voice of the girl on the switchboard(總機(jī)) of the emergency bed service who will get your patient into hospital for you-the pleasant voice that comes to you as you stand in the cold, dark, smelly, dirty telephone box somewhere in a dangerous section of town. Oh, it has its moments, this life does.

1. According to the sentence "Anyone who's studying medicine should have his head examined", we
    know that ________.
A. the writer thinks that those who want to be doctors are crazy
B. a doctor must be mentally strong so that he can meet any difficult situation
C. a medical student should have a very good memory
D. to be a doctor is a challenge for people's mental health

2. Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A. The writer wishes he could have a quiet, undisturbed night in bed at home.
B. One of his friends says that being a doctor helps one gain all sorts of experience.
C. He hates the telephone as a modern means of communication.
D. He is not happy with the small and uncomfortable car he is driving.

3. The statement "We do have our moments" could best be replaced by "________".
A. We doctors are called at a moment's notice to see people who need medical treatment
B. Usually we are glad that we can do something to help the sick
C. Sometimes we find people are thankful for our help
D. There are chances that doctors find their work rewarding and satisfying

4. From the whole passage we know that the writer ________.
A. is a bad doctor, unwilling to make a house call during the nighttime
B. is so dissatisfied with his job that he wishes to find a new one
C. is satisfied with his job but he hates to be called out unnecessarily
D. thinks a doctor can enjoy certain special rights whether he felt lucky or not

5. We can conclude that ________.
A. the author is worried about his patient when he is driving through the foggy streets of East London
B. the author is annoyed to be called out at such a horrible morning hour for an earache patient
C. the author is now heading for the beach in Southern France for his holidays
D. as the author speeds down Lea Bridge in the dark on a December morning, his Mini breaks down

It is the year 3000. I come to a place where I can’t see any water, plants or animals but black clouds in the sky and sand everywhere. It’s very dry so I drink some water that I carry with me. A native sees what I do and asks “What is it?” I pour some water and tell him it’s called water. “Oh, I’m so lucky that I can see water” the man shouts in an excited voice. “You have never seen water? But how can you live without water? ” I ask.

“Harry, get up, it is 7 o’clock, or you will be late!” a voice comes to my ears. “Oh! What a strange dream I dreamed just now!”

In class, I always think of that dream. And I also think of the fresh air, clean water, blue sky, green plants and animals in our world nowadays. How beautiful our life is!

But in order to make more money, people have built more and more factories. These factories send out waste smoke and water with chemicals which are harmful to the environment. The pollution is becoming worse and worse, and as a result, some animals and plants die out. With the development of agriculture, farmers spray aerosol and fertilizer, which also pollute the water and air. In the street the cars and buses are sending out heavy smoke which pollutes the air badly. Even tourism is harmful to the environment. When some tourists travel somewhere, they throw the plastic bags and rubbish onto the ground.

These behaviors are polluting the environment and the environment will become the greatest problem of the world. We shouldn’t pollute the environment any more. Otherwise more and more animals and plants will disappear. And maybe my dream will come true in the future.
