Thank you for your interest in helping animals! Volunteering is a wonderful way to learn, have fun and
give back to your community (社區(qū)). There are many ways to care for the animals at PAWS.
     Youth Work Party
If you are ten years or older, you can join the Youth Work Party Team with a parent to work on
different projects around PAWS in Lynnwood, WA. For example, you can build boxes for frightened,
injured wildlife to hide in. Ask your parent to sign up to join a work party. If you are eighteen years or
older, you can join the Youth Work Party Team independently.
     PAWSwalk
PAWSwalk is our biggest fundraising (籌款) event of the year, held at the end of the summer to
raise money to care for the animals. You can collect money with the help of your family, friends and
school, and then walk in the event.
     Cookie Sale
Selling homemade dog cookies is a wonderful way to help the animals. PAWS can provide brochures(小冊子)to give out when you sell the cookies prepared by you and your parents, so people can learn
about PAWS at the same time. You can find homemade dog cookie cooking instructions on the Internet
or by checking out cookbooks for dogs at the library.
     Movie Night
Invite friends, family, neighbors and classmates to watch your favorite animal movie, like Babe or
Charlotte's Web
. Ask them to bring an "entrance fee" of donations or supplies for the animals.
Thanks again for your interest in PAWS and helping animals. Share your ideas with your parents and
invite a few friends to join you in helping make a difference for animals. If you have any questions, call 425-787-2500-261.

Don't you think your schoolbag is too heavy to bear? The e-schoolbag will free you from
    the weight.
It is said that e-schoolbags are going to be brought into use in Chinese middle schools
soon. An experiment with several hundred e-schoolbags will begin in seven cities: Beijing,
Shanghai, Dalian, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Taiyuan and Shijiazhuang. And the e-schoolbags
are going to cover all over China if the experiment shows to be successful. In fact, the
e-schoolbag should perhaps be called an e-notebook. It is a small hand-held computers
    for school students.
Heavy schoolbags have long been a serious problem for school students. The average
schoolbag of middle school students weighs up to 5 kilos. But the e-schoolbag will change
everything. It is much lighter than a usual schoolbag, weighing under 1 kilo.
Also, it is no bigger than a usual book, but it can still hold all the things for study, such
as a textbook, a notebook and exercise book. They could be made into chips that are as
small as a stamp. The students can read the text page by page on the screen. They can
still take notes using a special electronic pen. If they want to know the meaning or the
pronunciation of a new word, or even e-mail their teachers, it's just a press of a button.
In some foreign countries, it is becoming common. But it is hard to tell when people
will receive this new form of study. Some say that e-textbooks can easily be broken,
some say that it is not good to students' eyesight to look at the screen for long. But only
    time will tell.
    1.The e-schoolbag has many functions EXCEPT _______.
    A. It can pronounce the words.
    B. It can send e-mails.
    C. It can be used as a dictionary.
    D. It can phone somebody.
    2.According to the passage, the e-schoolbags _______.
    A. are not heavy as before but still large
    B. are used as an experiment in Tianjin
    C. are made of metal
    D. are going to cover China if it shows to be successful
3.Which of the following statement is TRUE?
    A. All the students in China will use this new schoolbag.
    B. We can do a lot of work based on the programmers of the chips.
    C. The e-notebooks are very perfect.
    D. We will not make notes because the e-notebook can make all by itself.
4.Which of the following can be the general title of the passage? ______
    A. An Experiment In China
    B. Please Change Your Schoolbag
    C. A New Invention, A New Schoolbag
    D. Chips

events),many of the people you meet will be quiet and polite. Some people may be intolerant, but most will be pleasant and welcoming.Remember that American films and television exaggerate(夸張)in order to
generate excitement, and so present a rather false picture of what life in the United States is really like.
Therefore, tourists in the US are not always on their best behavior.
Americans do tend to be more informal than people from other countries. It is common for Americans
to wear casual clothing to school and to greet professors by first name. However, good manners and
politeness are always appreciated. If you are polite, and dress a little more formally than your American
friends, it will not be poorly thought of.
However, some businesses require their employees to wear a uniform or a suit.It would be improper to wear a Tshirt and blue jeans to a job interview. Some of the more prestigious restaurants require a coat and a tie.Americans tend to dress up for cultural events(the opera, theater and ballet)and to dress down for
athletic events.Formal wear is required at weddings and funerals, or any other event with religion. If you

Don't make sudden changes. Start slowly, by waking just 15 to 30 minutes earlier than usual. Get used to this for a few days. Then cut back another 15 minutes. Do this gradually until you get to your goal time.
Sleep earlier. You might be used to staying up late, perhaps watching TV or surfing the Internet. However, you just might fall asleep much sooner than you think.
Put your alarm away from your bed. You have to get up out of bed to shut it off. By then, you're up.
Now you just have to stay up.
Go out of the bedroom as soon as you shut off the alarm. Don't find an excuse to go back to bed. My
habit is to force myself into the bathroom. By the time I've washed my hand, and the toilet of course, and
looked at my ugly face in the mirror, I'm awake enough to face the day.
Allow yourself to sleep in once in a while, as long as it's not a regular thing. I do it maybe once a week or so.
Make it a reward. At first you're forcing yourself to do something hard, but if you do something
pleasurable as part of your morning routine, soon you will look forward to waking up early. My reward used to be to make a hot cup of coffee for myself and read a book. Now I look outside (or better yet, get
outside!) and watch the sky turn light. It's beautiful. It's now my favorite time of day.
Getting up early is a reward in itself for me and so will it be for you.
    1. Which of the following does the writer suggest we do?
    A. Get up at our goal time to start the new habit.
    B. Shut off TV and the Internet, and face the day.
    C. Get up at the same time every day to keep the habit.
    D. Do something enjoyable in the morning to begin the day.
    2. We should get into the bathroom right after we get out of bed because________.
    A. that is part of our routine
    B. we really need a cold wash
    C. the alarm clock needs to be shut off
    D. that will make ourselves completely awake
    3. The writer enjoys ________most in the morning.
    A. doing some washing
    B. making a cup of coffee for himself
    C. watching the daybreak
    D. sleeping late, and thinking in bed
    4. This passage is written to________.
    A. share the writer's experience
    B. give tips for becoming an early bird
    C. persuade people to get up early
    D. help get rewards from getting up early
