Last Tuesday I took two daughters, aged five and seven, to town by car. It began to rain1, so I decided I would leave the children in the car2I rushed into a shop. I warned the girls not to3anything and told them I would be back within a few minutes. Then I locked all the doors and left4happily out of the window.
I returned to the car in less than five minutes but the girls had5! I could hardly believe my eyes. The car doors were6locked, the windows tightly shut and on the back seat were only two coats. Being7, I ran to the corner of the street8there was no sign of them. I rushed up to an old lady nearby and asked9 she had seen two small girls but she said “No”.
Feeling quite sick with fear, I sat on the driver’s seat, and went to stop trembling (發(fā)抖). Suddenly, I heard a merry laugh10me. I got out of the car, ran round to open the boot (車(chē)尾行李箱) and inside were two very red-faced and11children. They had obviously pulled out the back seat, climbed behind it and then been unable to push the seat forward again.12tears in my eyes, I leaned forward and pulled their ears.

Wang Hao and Wang Liqin, two of China’s top tennis players, both saw the World Table Tennis Championships as a chance to prove themselves. But there was only one champion and Wang Hao, 25, won it last Tuesday in Yokohama, Japan.
Wang Hao, who won the men’s doubles title with Chen Qi last Monday, played with spirit to best Wang Liqin 11-9, 13-11,11-5,11-9.
Wang Hao said it was his mental toughness (心里穩(wěn)定) that made the difference. “I was disappointed by my performances in past championships and the last two Olympic Games. But I have tried to pull myself together and prepared well. This is the result.”
Wang Hao said he always understood the importance of physical training and technical skills. Now he knows the need for mental preparation as well. Having two Olympic silvers had left him feeling bitter (痛苦的). The bitterness perhaps explains why he has not always played at his best in the past.
“I’ve come to understand that you can learn important lessons (教訓(xùn)) from failure,” he said. “Losing can build your character and make you a stronger player.” His next goal, or dream, is to win the medal at the London Olympics in 2012.
Liu Guoliang, head coach of China’s table tennis team, sang the praises of Wang Hao’s victory. “This is just the beginning of his rise,” said Liu. “It’s the confidence-booster he needs to make further progress.”

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng),并在答題卡上將該項(xiàng)涂黑。
A
Recently I gave my adult students homework. It was “go to someone you love and tell them you love them.” It has to be someone you have never said those words to before or at least haven’t shared those words with for a long time.
It sounds like very tough homework since most of the men were over 35 and were raised in the generation of men that were taught expressing emotions is not “macho(陽(yáng)剛之氣).” Showing feelings or crying was just not done. So this was very threatening homework for some.
At the beginning of our next class, I asked if someone wanted to share what happened when they told someone they loved them. I fully expected one of the women to volunteer, as was usually the case, but on this evening one of the men raised his hand, quite moved and a bit shaken.
As he unfolded out of his chair (all 1.85 meters of him), he began by saying, “Dennis, I was quite angry with you last week when you gave us this homework . Why were you to tell me to do something that personal?”
“But as I began driving home my conscience(良心)started telling me that I knew exactly who I needed to say ‘I love you’ to.”
“Five years ago, my father and I had a severe disagreement and really never settled it since then. We avoided seeing each other unless we absolutely had to at Christmas or other family gatherings. But even then, we hardly spoke to each other.”
“So last Tuesday by the time I got home I had convinced myself I was going to tell my father I loved him. It’s strange, but just making that decision seemed to lift a heavy load off my chest.”
56.The homework is threatening for some students because         .
A. they are middle-aged people     B. they are not macho enough
C. they were taught to hide their emotions   D. they didn’t know how to show feelings
57.From the passage we know that________.
A. the adult students have classes in the day time only
B. not all the adult students in the writer’s class are male
C. the man refused to meet his father after their quarrel
D. the man quickly decided to say “I love you” to his father
58.The underlined phrase “unfolded out of his chair” in Para 4 is closest in meaning to_______.
A. stood on his chair straight B. sat quietly in the chair
C. bent himself over his chair       D. raised himself slowly from the chair
59.What does the man imply by saying the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
A. He felt it too strange to say “I love you” to his father.
B. He felt relaxed just thinking of saying “I love you” to his father.
C. He felt very relaxed after saying “I love you” to his father.
D. He had to lift a heavy load off his chest before saying “I love you”.
60. .Which do you think can be the best title of the passage?
A. Special homework for adults.             B. Saying “I love you” is not mancho.
C. Disagreement between father and son .     D. It is easy for adults to express their love.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2014屆遼寧省五校協(xié)作體高二上學(xué)期聯(lián)合競(jìng)賽英語(yǔ)試卷1(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Early last Tuesday, six men carrying machine guns, a pistol and a hunting rifle got on a four—car electric “ milk train” at the Dutch town of Assen. Shortly after it left Beilen, ten miles away, the terrorists stopped the train and seized the passenger as hostages. As police and Dutch soldiers ringed the train, another group of terrorists stuck in Amsterdam, forcing their way into the Indonesian consulate and taking 41 more hostages, including 16 children. By week’s end the terrorists had murdered three people aboard the train, and four more had been wounded in the raid on the consulate.

The kidnapping, and the subsequent cold—blooded murders, virtually rocked the Netherlands. While the Cabinet met in emergency sessions, television and radio station paused normal programming in favor of solemn music and news bulletins.

The terrorists were Indonesians from the South Moluccan Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and they were demanding that the Dutch help them gain independence from the Jakarta regime.(雅加達(dá)政權(quán))

The twin acts of violence were not the first signs of South Molucca anger. Just before a 1970 visit to the Netherlands by Indonesia’s President Suharto, they attacked the Indonesian embassy in the Hague, killing a Dutch policeman. Last week’s kidnappings are two days before the Dutch Appeals Court was to trial 16 South Moluccan’s who were implicated in a plot last April to kidnap Queen Juliana and other members of the Royal family. They planned to storm the palace at Soestdijk after attacking the gates with an armoured car(裝甲車(chē)).

The Moluccan headache is a heritage(遺留問(wèn)題) of the old days of empire. A chain of islands at the eastern of the Indonesian archipelago, the Moluccas were once known as the Spice Islands. When the Netherlands gave up its East Indies colonies in 1949, the Moluccans wanted to set up a South Moluccan Republic, some 12,000 islanders were allowed to settle to the Netherlands. Their number swollen by Dutch—born children now reached 35,000. the young Moluccans here are demanding that the Dutch help them gain independence from the Jakarta regime.

1.Which of the following is not mentioned in the passage?

A.Dozens of people were seized by the terrorist as hostages.

B.The Indonesian consulate was located in Amsterdam.

C.The terrorists were Indonesians living in the Netherlands.

D.The terrorists all surrendered(投降) to the police and soldiers.

2.Why did television and radio stations pause normal programming?

A.The acts of violence shocked the whole country.

B.The terrorists destroyed necessary equipment.

C.the Cabinet needed to think quietly.

D.Their men were too sad to produce good program.

3.The last paragraph __________.

A.is mainly about the history of Indonesia

B.tells us how Indonesia won its independence

C.tell us how the Netherlands gave up its rule

D.briefly accounts for the acts of violence
