A
I was born an albino. No one in my family had ever known what an albino was, what it meant to be an albino, and what had to be done differently because I was an albino.
My parents treated me just like they treated everybody else. That was just about the best thing they could have done. It helped me trust myself,so when the annoyances came along,I could deal with them.
Actually,my photo always looked like a snowball with two pieces of coal for eyes. Kids would tease me,asking if I was joining the circus and calling me “Whitey”. Like most albinos,I had terrible eyesight, and my grades suffered until eventually I overcame my feeling ashamed of myself and realized it was okay to ask to sit in the front of the classroom so I could see the blackboard better. People stared at me when I held reading material right at the tip of my nose so I could see it well enough to read. Even when I was eight or nine. movie-theater clerks started asking me to pay adult prices because I “l(fā)ooked older”.
The worst part for me was that because my eyesight was so bad,I couldn't play sports very well. I didn't give up trying, though. And I studied harder. Eventually,I got better at school and loved it. By the time I got to college I was double majoring, going to summer school and devoting myself to every kind of extracurricular activity I could find. I had learned to be proud of being an albino. I did my best to make “albino” a positive word. And I decided to make my living with my eyes.
I couldn't see well enough to play spots, but with a solid education and the drive to do it,I could make a living involved in the field I loved. I've done it now for more than thirty years in print and in video, and now in cyberspace. People make jokes about how I'm the only “blind editor” they know, but most of the time the jokes are signs of respect. And I make jokes about being an albino.
I was just a proud albino kid from the coal country of Pennsylvania. I now realize that being born an albino helped me to overcome difficulties, gain confidence, and be proud of my personal achievement and humble about my professional accomplishments.

If you ever felt like your doctor was trying to push you out of the examination room before you had a chance to explain your condition you are not alone.
A new study from the Mayo Clinic shows that most people agree on what makes a good doctor and it definitely isn’t one who hurries through a visit.
A doctor’s skills can affect a patient’s emotional response and recovery very positively or very negatively, a research shows. Based on the new study, which surveyed 192 patients, it can be concluded that a model doctor should be confident, sympathetic, kind, personal forthright, respectful and thorough.
“What every patient wants is a doctor who pays them personal attention” said James Li, a doctor at the Mayo Clinic Division of Allergic Diseases Li is helping to develop programs for teaching doctors how to strengthen their interactions with patients.
“It’s really the duty of the medical community to design a health care system, so that doctors are able to exhibit those qualities for the good of the patients,” he said.
Many patients nowadays are directed to urgent care facilities or , for lack of good insurance, forced to go to emergency rooms for problems that used to be handled right away. In either case, wait time can be hours and actual face time with a doctor might be just seconds.
“The days when doctors remembered their patients’ names might no longer exit , but medical schools can  fill in this crack  by adding in the seven behavioral things into their training.” Li said.
“If patients have opportunities to tell their stories, to be asked questions and have the doctors describe understanding of what has been shared , it leaves them feeling like they’re heard ” Lisaid.

In the early morning of September 7, 2006, Akif woke suddenly."Where am I?" she thought, confused, only to realize she'd fallen asleep in the children's bedroom in their east-end Montreal apartment. There was a sharp and acrid (刺鼻的) smell in the room.Could that be smoke? She leaped up, opened the door and began to cough. She ignored the flames that lit up the apartment as she raced across the small hall to her own bedroom, where a window was already open, "Help!" she cried into the dark. But it was 3:30 in the morning and nobody was around to hear. She was on her own.
Later, she'd say she thought of nothing at all.It was female's instinct (本能)that helped her uncover a supermum strength she never knew she had.She had no choice; her children would surely have died had they waited in their own bedroom for rescue. She ran back through the flames for her children, first lifting Sami, still half asleep, into her arms and carrying him to the open window in her room and dropping him to the ground from the second floor. Then, she turned back for Majda.
By then, a neighbour had called 9-1-1.Looking out of the window, Akif knew that jumping would be her only chance of survival. She also knew if she didn't, the very reason her family had moved out from Morocco five years earlier—— to make a better life and give the children opportunities they wouldn't have had back home ——would be for nothing. But why couldn't she move her left leg?
