    As the comet came near the earth in 1986, the European Space Agency flied a rocket called Grotto. Grotto came within 605 kilometers (376 miles) of the atmosphere of the comet. It is about 15 kilometers long and 8 kilometers wide (9.3 miles by 5 miles). Its atmosphere contains the element nitrogen (氮?dú)?/span>) but no air.
