Bluetooth is a radio-technology which provides tech supports for short range communication, allowing cell-phones, PDA, wireless earphones, notebook computers etc to exchange radio signals, so that electronic appliances with Bluetooth can contact each other within 10 metres.

“Bluetooth” comes from the king of Denmark Harald Gormsson’s nickname.Born of a pirate’s family, Harald later united the countries of North Europe and became king of the Viking Kingdom.Because he liked eating blue strawberries, his teeth were always dyed blue, hence the nickname.Blue strawberries were at that time regarded as inadvisable food owing to the ugly colour, so the king became the symbol of bravery in making daring attempts. In 1998, hoping to standardize radio communication technologies Ericsson named the new technology standard Bluetooth.

Later, on May 20, 1999, the leading companies in the field like Sony Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Toshiba and so on set up Bluetooth Special Interest Group(SIG)and worked out Bluetooth technology standards.

Bluetooth has a fast-increasing number of supporters and sharers, from five members of SIG in the beginning up to today’s nearly 3000 member corporations. Its development can be roughly divided into three stages.

First stage(2001~2002):Bluetooth was applied to high-end products as accessories, such as earphones for cell-phones, cards for notebook computers, or to the special occasions where only its capabilities and functions were strictly demanded but not its price.

Second stage(2002~2005):Bluetooth was applied to mid-and high-grade products, such as PDA, cell-phones, notebook computers and so on.Its price went down to 10 doctors for each chip.

Third stage(since 2005):Bluetooth has stepped into household appliances, digital cameras and other electronic products.Bluetooth networks are everywhere and its price is 2~5 dollars. It is quite common that a person has two or three Bluetooth products.

Bluetooth has a promising future; the rapid development of communication technology will provide it with even larger markets. It is predicted to have 3 billion users by the end of 2010.Bluetooth’s target market is low-end wireless networked field, and its original intention is providing simple and convenient wireless networked technology.

(1)

Bluetooth is intended to ________.

[ ]

A.

communicate between different electronic appliances at any distance

B.

connect different electronic appliances wirelessly within short distance

C.

provide tech supports for various electronic appliances to communicate

D.

allow different electronic appliances to contact with wires within 10 metres

(2)

Why did Ericsson name a new technology standard Bluetooth?

[ ]

A.

Because all the products of the new technology are blue.

B.

Because Bluetooth is the nickname of the king of Ericsson.

C.

Because they think they are as brave in making attempts.

D.

Because their products are as ugly as blue strawberries.

(3)

From the three stages we may draw a conclusion that Bluetooth technology has been becoming ________.

[ ]

A.

more expensive

B.

more applied

C.

higher-end

D.

more specially used

(4)

The passage is mainly about ________.

[ ]

A.

how a new scientific name came into being

B.

how a company developed a new technology

C.

how a new technology standard was born

D.

how a company found out a meaningful name

Gorillas are born with an international sign language of gestures that they use to communicate, says a new study from the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
From beating their chests to putting objects on their heads, shaking their arms, and even bouncing on all fours, the animals use more than 100 gestures to communicate with each other
Professor Richard Byrne,a psychiatrist involved in the research, says it was hard to figure out the meanings of the gestures.
“We don't really know what the animals are thinking. Often the gestures have more than one meaning, depending on the context,”says Byrne.
The study showed that the gorillas did not learn the gestures from each other,as had been expected, but performed them instinctively (本能地).
“Everyone had assumed different groups of gorillas would learn different gestures,”he says. “But that's not what we found. The more sites we went to ,the more we saw the same gestures being used. They seem to be naturally equipped with a pretty complex system of communication.”
The study also found that gestures were performed with close attention to the potential audience,so that silent signals, for example, were only given when other apes could see them. Other gestures, such as the "disco arm shake" were only ever seen directed towards humans.
Byrne believes that the findings may explain how the human language developed.
“There has always been speculation(猜測(cè))that the origins of the human language might lie in gestures,”he says.
“Many researchers have therefore studied the gestural communication of the great apes for clues to the evolutionary origins of human gestures,”he adds.
Several studies have shown that great apes are capable of imitating gestures. However, the scientists found that what appeared to be copies of human actions were actually gestures the apes were already able to make themselves. They're “reusing” gestures from their own repertoire, not learning new ones.

A. different groups of gorillas would learn different gestures
B. gorillas know the sign language from birth
C. how gorillas learn from each other
D. gorillas develop a variety of languages when growing up

A. Because gorillas possess the ability of making many kinds of gestures.
B. Because they haven't made deep research into the animal.
C. Because a gorilla gesture may have different meanings.
D. Because gorillas can't exactly express their thoughts.
66.If a gorilla wants to make a silent gesture towards another gorilla,he      .
A. needs to know how many other gorillas are watching him
