As parents, we like to make sure that our children are eating well and getting all the nutrients(營(yíng)養(yǎng))they need. Children need two to three kinds of vegetables every day.

A simple way to get our children to eat vegetables is by eating them ourselves. Following our example, they may start eating vegetables themselves. Don't say things like, "If you eat your vegetables, you can have dessert. "These methods work for a little while but can possibly lead them to hate vegetables more. Give your children new varieties of foods which will help them develop a taste for trying new things.

Sometimes the simple things just don't work. We have to start becoming a little creative to make our children eat vegetables. By doing this in the beginning when children are small, we will help them learn to love vegetables.

Think of creative ways to make children eat vegetables. For example, cut up vegetables like carrots, cucumbers and place them in a creative way on a plate for an afternoon snack(零食). Or try using cheese sauce either by dipping(蘸) the vegetables in it or by putting the cheese right on top of cooked or raw vegetables.

If you prefer, you can also add a teaspoon (茶匙)of sugar on top of cooked green beans and peas to make them taste a little sweeter. Doing this shouldn't lead to a sweet tooth as long as you only give them a small amount.

If you have children that refuse to eat vegetables, some of these suggestions I've listed will help to turn that around. In the end, you're not only just getting them to eat vegetables, you're also helping them to live a healthier lifestyle.

Would you eat a ready meal from the fridge rather than cook? Have you been doing internet shopping rather than going to the stores? What can’t you be bothered to do?

A study into how lazy British people are has found more than half of adults are so idle(閑散的)they’d catch the lift rather than climb two flights of stairs.

Just over 2,000 people were quizzed by independent researchers at Nuffield Health, Britain’s largest health charity. The results were shocking. About one in six people surveyed said if their remote control (遙控器)was broken, they would continue watching the same channel rather than get up.  More than one third of those questioned said they would not run to catch a bus. Worryingly, of the 654 questioned people with children, 64% said they were often too tired to play with them.  This led the report to conclude that it’s no wonder that one in six children in the UK are classifted as obese(肥胖)before they start school.

Dr Sarah Dauncey, medical director of Nuffield Health, said: “People need to get fitter, not just for their own sake, but for the sake of their families, too. If we don’t start to take control of this problem, a whole generation will become too unfit to perform even the simplest tasks.”

And Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, was shamed as the laziest city in the UK, with 75% surveyed admitting they do not get enough exercise, followed closely by Birmingham and Southampton, both with 67%.

The results pose serious challenges for the National Health Service, where obesity-related illnesses such as heart disease and cancer have been on a steady increase for the past 40 years and are costing billions of pounds every year.

1. According to the researchers at Nuffield Health, about ________ people who were surveyed would not run to catch a bus.

A. 10            B. 150             C. 330              D. 660

2. One in six children in the UK are classified as obese before they start school because ________.

A. they stay too long a time with their pets

B. they spend too much time watching TV

C. their parents don’t play with them much

D. they suffer from obesity-related illnesses

3. ________ is the second laziest city in the UK.

    A. Scotland       B. Glasgow         C. Birmingham       D. Nuffield

4. What’s the writer trying to tell us?

    A. Parents have much to do with their children’s obesity-related illnesses.

    B. British people are getting lazier, which can cause serious social problems.

    C. The National Health Service has to face a lot of serious challenges every year.

    D. A study into how lazy British people are has been carried out at Nuffield Health.

Being healthy means taking care of yourself physically and mentally. Here are some of my best tips on how to do both:

Break a bad habit.

You don’t really “break” habits. __66__. So if your problem is that you eat too much when you get home from work, find something new to do that is incompatible(不能共存的)with what you usually do. You can’t walk around the track at the school and pig out in your kitchen at the same time.

Grow your marriage.

__67__. It’s always a give-and-take, always requires work. It’s as if you planted a garden and came back six months later─you wouldn’t even be able to find it. __68__.

Beat stress.

My dog, Maggie, is the best anti-stress tool I have. A few minutes petting, scratching or playing with her, and __69__. Exercise also helps. Just about every day, I’m on the tennis court. It’s a great workout, and if I don’t have that, I don’t cope as well, sleep as well or think as well.

Refocus your anger.

Expressing your anger is just not that good an idea. You say things you don’t mean. __70__. When you do that, you’re a problem solver.

Don’t medicate(摻入藥) with food.

It never, ever works. You’re denying your issue by eating your way through it, instead of saying, “Hey, I’ve got a problem.”

A.     You replace the unwanted behavior with something that prevents you from doing it and that doesn’t have

unhealthy side effects.

B.     I’ll feel easy.

C.     If there is a problem, you needn’t deal with it immediately.

D.     You have to tend it, feed it, weed it, and deal with the problems.

E.      Instead, recognize that anger is usually a symptom of hurt, fear or frustration, and deal with the causes rather than blow up.

F.      Relationships are negotiated(協(xié)商), and the negotiation never stops.

G.     You do something without any good effect on your health during the time when you usually do something harmful to your body.

Food is life. It gives us the nourishment we need to stay alive and be healthy. Usually, we eat because we are hungry or need energy. Brian Wansink, a professor at the University of Illinois, says we also eat certain foods because they make us feel good, and remind us of happy memories. Wansink calls this kind of food comfort food. For some people, ice cream is a comfort food. For others, a bowl of noodle soup makes them feel good.

How does a food become comfort food? Professor Wansink believes that we connect food with important times, feelings, and people in our lives. “ When I was a child, my mother made a delicious soup ; I loved it. Now, I often eat this soup when I am tired or worried, and it helps me feel better, ” says one of Wansink’s coworkers.

Do men and women choose different comfort foods? Wansink’s research at the University of Illinois says “yes.” In his study, the favorite comfort food for both men and women was ice cream. After this, men usually preferred hot, savory foods like soup or noodles. Women liked sweet things such as chocolate and cookies. Men and women like to eat comfort foods when they are happy, but women eat these foods more when they are sad or worried.

Not all comfort food is junk (垃圾) food. About 40 percent of the comfort foods in Wansink’s study were healthy main dishes or soups and vegetables. It shows, says Wansink, that a comfort food can taste good and be good for you.
