【題目】Glacier Bay is one of the most famous parks in America, located in the state of Alaska. This park in the southeastern part of the state covers more than 1 million hectares of Alaskan wilderness. It includes mountains, glaciers (冰川), bays, and even rainforests. Glacier Bay supports hundreds of kinds of animals, including many species of birds, fish, bears, whales and sea lions.

As its name suggests, much of Glacier Bay National Park is covered by glaciers. A glacier is a large area of ice that moves slowly down a slope (斜坡) or valley, or over a wide area of land. Glaciers cover more than 5,000 square kilometers of the park.

Glacial ice has shaped the land over the last seven million years. The glaciers found in the park today are what remains from an ice advance known as the Little Ice Age. That period began about 4,000 years ago.

During the Little Ice Age, the cold weather caused the ice to grow and advance. That situation continued until about 1,700s, when the climate began to warm. The higher temperatures caused the ice to start melting. That melting led the huge glacier to separate into more than 1,000 different glaciers.

The extremely tall and jagged (參差不齊的) mountains seen in Glacier Bay National Park were formed by the ice advancing and then melting over time. The melting of the ice also created water that filled in and created the many fjords (峽灣) within the park. Fjords are narrow parts of the ocean that sit between cliffs or mountains.

The huge amount of water from the melted ice killed off many kinds of plants. Vegetation returned to the area over the next 200 years. The regrowth in plants also brought back many animals to the land. This return of life to Glacier Bay is why it is sometimes called “a land reborn” by people.

1What is mentioned in Paragraph 1?

A. The function of Glacier Bay.

B. The climate of Glacier Bay.

C. The area of Alaskan wilderness.

D. The number of animals in Glacier Bay.

2What happened to Glacier Bay during the Little Ice Age?

A. Many slopes or valleys came into being.

B. The glaciers grew and advanced.

C. Different glaciers became a whole one.

D. The fjords became narrow.

3What is mainly discussed in the last paragraph?

A. How the water killed off the plants.

B. When vegetation returned to Glacier Bay.

C. What the relationship between plants and animals is.

D. Why Glacier Bay is sometimes called “a land reborn”.

This park in the southeastern part of the state covers more than 1 million hectares of Alaskan wilderness這句意思是說(shuō),冰川灣占了100萬(wàn)公頃的阿拉斯加荒地,而選項(xiàng)C指的是阿拉斯加荒地的面積,不是同一個(gè)概念。故排除。

2B 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。由文章第四段第一句During the Little Ice Age, the cold weather caused the ice to grow and advance得知,在小冰河期寒冷的天氣使得冰山增長(zhǎng)和發(fā)展。

The iPhone, the iPad: each of Apple's products sounds cool and has become a fad(一時(shí)的風(fēng)尚). Apple has cleverly taken advantage of the power of the letter “i” --and many other brands are following suit. The BBC's iPlayer--which allows Web users to watch TV programs on the Internet--used the title in 2008. A lovely bear--popular in the US and UK--that plays music and video is called “iTeddy”. A slimmed-down version(簡(jiǎn)裝本) of London's Independent newspaper was started last week under the name “i”.
In general, single-letter prefixes(前綴) have been popular since the 1990s, when terms such as e-mail and e-commerce(電子商務(wù)) first came into use.
Most “I” products are targeted at(針對(duì)) young people and considering the major readers of Independent's “I”, it's no surprise that they've selected this fashionable name.
But it's hard to see what's so special about the letter “i”. Why not use “a”, “b”, or “c” instead? According to Tony Thorne, head of the Language Center at King's College, London, “i” works because its meaning has become ambiguous. When Apple uses “i”, no one knows whether it means Internet, information, individual or interactive, Thorne told BBC Magazines. “Even when Apple created the iPod, it seems it didn't have one clear definition(定義),” he says.
“However, thanks to Apple, the term is now connected with portability (輕便).” adds Thorne.
Clearly the letter “i” also agrees with the idea that the Western World is centered on the individual. Each person believes they have their own needs, and we love personalized products for this reason.
Along with “Google” and “blog”, readers of BBC Magazines voted “I” as one of the top 20 words that have come to define the last decade(十年).
But as history shows, people grow tired of fads. From the 1900s to 1990s, products with “2000” in their names became fashionable as the year was connected with all things advanced and modern. However, as we entered the new century, the fashion disappeared.
(1)We can infer that the Independent's "i" is designed at .
A.old readers
B.young readers
C.fashionable women
D.engineers
(2)The underlined word “ambiguous” means ““.
A.popular
B.clear
C.uncertain
D.unique
(3)Nowadays, the “i” term often reminds people of the products which are.
A.portable
B.environmentally friendly
C.advanced
D.recyclable
(4)The writer suggests that.
A.“i” products are often of high quality
B.iTeddy is alive bear
C.the letter “b” replaces letter “i” to name the products
D.the popularity of “i” products may not last long

According to statistics published by the University of Scranton, about 45 percent of Americans usually make New Year's resolutions—and the most popular resolution is losing weight. Of those who make resolutions, a mere 8 percent achieve them.
Are we just setting ourselves up for failure? Learn how to make realistic resolutions and how to overcome the roadblocks along the way.
Setting a resolution to lose pounds isn't a goal that's achievable now. It may be a good long-term goal. Registered dietitian Elisa Zied says “… to be real when you make a resolution. It's okay to shoot for the stars like making a resolution, but why not set a smaller goal and train smart?”
The same concept applies to weight loss. These goals should help develop healthy habits that will finally help achieve your long-term resolution.
Notice that these goals are simple and achievable. “Instead of going from zero to 60, from never going to the gym to going four to five times a week, why not start with three days a week, get consistent and build from there,” Zied says. Set yourself up for success and map out your course by making appointments with yourself to be active.
You also need to be aware of your current exercise and eating habits to make achievable goals. Keeping a diary of your food and exercise habits can help. Record everything you eat and drink for three to five days and review it. For example, if you notice a tendency to snack on unhealthy fare, set a goal to eat a fruit or vegetable with each snack. Building on these smaller goals over time can help you achieve your long-term goal.
A. So why do so many of us fail to achieve our goals?
B. Once you notice your not-so-good habits, start fixing them.
C. Set between one and three weekly goals that you want to achieve.
D. Resolutions usually involve a commitment to sticking to your goals.
E. However, in order to reach it, you need to take baby steps to get it down.
F. If you treat your goals like set appointment, you're more likely to achieve them.
G. Losing weight, as well as getting a better job, is among the most popular resolutions for adults.

NATURAL BEAUTY: OUR ENVIRONMENT

Anne Bowen, an art teacher, always emphasized environmental themes in her classes. She channels her concern for the environment into her artwork, which you can see in her Our Environment exhibition, at the Carrollwood Cultural Center in Tampa. Bowen uses mixed media (pen and ink, colored pencils and paint) to describe nature, using patterns that echo the symmetry(對(duì)稱) found there. Shes also interested in the ways animals live together in groups, which she explores in her piece Monarch Butterflies(pictured). She hopes her art inspires viewers to come up with solutions to environmental problems. Bowens commitment to environmental preservation isnt just lip service; shell donate half of her sales profits to the Sierra Club. In addition to Our Environment, members of the Exhibiting Society of Artists have an exhibition in the gallery. The opening reception for both shows is 58 p.m. Friday. 4537 Lowell Road. ABSTRACTIONS: UNFURLED

Local artist Dominique Martinez, the creative force behind Rustic Steel Creations, bought and renovated the old Tampa Heights Fire Station No. 5, which became Red Door No. 5. Each month, the gallery features local artists with an opening reception in conjunction with First Friday Art in the Heights. This Fridays exhibition, Unfurled, features abstract artists Stephanie Ong and Laura Kmetz.

Ongs paintings are a form of communication using light, scale and color. Her latest series, Habitats, explores transitions in life. Kmetzs works are deep concentrations of nature and objects, which she explores through multilayered, mixed-media works. She seeks to reveal the essence of things, finding their meaning and offer associations with displacement, loss, search, recovery and preservation.
