根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。

1. From 18-25, according to I.Q. scores;but you are wiser and more experienced with increasing age. You are smartest in your 20's; around 30, your memory begins to go down, particularly your ability to perform mathematical computations(數(shù)學(xué)計(jì)算). 2. Your vocabulary at the age of 45, for example, is three times as great as when you graduated from college. At 60, your brain has almost four times as much information as it did at the age of 21.

3. You have the best physical sense of yourself from 15 to 24; the best professional sense from 40 to 49. Before the age of 24, we believe that our happiest years are yet to come;over 30,we believe that they are behind us. A National Health survey agrees: after the age of 30, we become more realistic and do not view happiness as a goal in itself. If we keep our health, achieve professional and emotional goals, happiness, we feel, will follow.

4. Generally between 30 and 39, but the peak (頂峰)varies with different professions(職業(yè)). Mozart wrote a symphony and four sonatas by the age of 8, and Mendelssohn composed his best?known work A Midsummer Night's Dream at 17, but most of the great music was written by men between 33 and 39.

Though the peak in most fields comes early, most Nobel Prize winners did their top research in their late 20's and 30's—creative people continue to produce work with high quality(質(zhì)量) throughout their lives. 5.

A. When are you most creative ?

B. When are you happiest?

C. When are you smartest?

D. Do you know what I.Q. refers to?

E. But your I.Q. for other tasks goes up.

F. Creative people usually produce a lot of works.

G. For the “well?conditioned mind”, there is no upper limit.(限制)

B

People are overweight for many reasons, the most important one of which is that they eat the wrong foods, get the wrong types of calories per meal, and they also eat meals at the wrong time each day. Food is more powerful than any weight loss pill, because the food that you eat can either make you thin or fat. This is true because your body is like an engine, and it only needs certain foods at certain intervals(間隔) each day.

Low-calorie Diets Do Not Work

The reason people cannot lose weight by starving themselves is that their metabolism(新陳代謝) will detect any major drop in calories and it will then adjust itself by burning fewer calories each day. That is the reason why you can eat 1,000 calories per day and not lose any weight, while your friends can eat 2,500 calories per day and not gain any weight.

Low-fat Diets Do Not Work

Many people in today’s society are buying mostly low-fat or non-fat food at the grocery store. Everybody knows how much fat is inside the food they buy. However, people are getting fatter than ever before by doing this. They are not losing weight by changing to this low-fat lifestyle.

Losing weight has nothing to do with these things. One of the most important things you can do to control your weight is to eat the proper foods, such as fruit and vegetables, eat them at the right time, and exercise every day. If people make this a habit, they will lose weight.

1.What is the main reason why people are overweight?

A. They burn many calories every day.

B. They eat the wrong foods at the wrong time.

C. They eat food with lots of calories.

D. They don’t take weight loss pills.

2.The article is written in order to_______.

A. tell readers not to buy low-fat or non-fat food.

B.tell readers about an important scientific discovery.

C.tell readers how to lose weight.

D. call on people to lose weight and stay healthy.

3.To realize the aim of your weight loss plan, you should_________.

a. do exercise every day

b. eat meals at the right time

c. eat fruits and vegetables

d. eat low-fat or sweet food

e. eat the proper foods at each meal

A. a, b, c, e B. a, b, d, e

C. a, c, d, e D.a, b, c, d

For 40 years, people in London have been happy to see parakeets (馬尾鸚鵡) in their parks. The shocking green body and long tail have brought a bright color to the parks, which have attracted a lot of people.

However, the parakeets are no longer welcome. They will push out local birds from trees to build their own nests, and will also take most of the food in the parks, such as seeds, fruit and nuts.

Sometimes by accident, plants and animals are carried to new places. They are transported by trains, ships or even planes. Often, animals like fishes get transported in the water containers of ships. When these ships reach new places and pump out the water from their tanks, these animals will start a new life in a new place.

Sometimes people take plants and animals from one part of the world to the other to solve a problem. But it will create a bigger problem. Years ago, the farmers of northern Australia brought the toads (蟾蜍) from South America to their farms. They thought they would kill the beetles that harm the sugarcane crops. But the toad has done much more. It is now killing Australia’s native animals, such as snakes, water birds and so on.

1.People get interested in parakeets mainly because of ____.

A. their appearance B. their singing

C. their behavior D. their living environment

2.How do the parakeets affect the local birds?

A. They sometimes kill the local birds.

B. They destroy trees which the local birds live in.

C. They take the local birds’ nests and food.

D. They have attracted much of people’s attention.

3.What is the third paragraph mainly talking about?

A. How animals and plants come to new lands.

B. How a new animal affects the local animals.

C. Why some plants are introduced to a new place.

D. The role of ships in transporting animals and plants.

4.What can we learn about the toads?

A. They didn’t kill the beetles at all.

B. They were brought to Australia by accident.

C. They have ruined the sugarcane crops.

D. They have created a larger problem in Australia.
