Dear Mr. Chen,
I’m very delight to have you as our English teacher. As the world is becoming a global village, English is getting more and more important. Therefore, master English means we can see the world through a new window.
To be honesty my English is just OK. There are two mainly problems in my English study. First, I feel it difficult to learn words by the heart. Besides, I often feel nervous when spoken English. I’d appreciate if you could give me some good advices on how to memorize new words. Another suggestion is to give us more chance to practice speaking English in class. I’m certain that we can make much progress in English under your help. I’m dreaming that you will be more than our English teacher.
Thank you.
Li hua
5. by the heart中去掉the
6.spoken改成speaking
7. appreciate ∧ if you加it
8.advices改成advice
9.chance改成chances
10.under改成with
這里這句的意思是我感到很難用心學(xué)習(xí)單詞,所以固定搭配by heart是用心的意思,故by the heart改為by heart。
這里appreciate it if you是固定用法,表如果你...

When I found out I was moving to India, it was beyond a nightmare. It was something I couldn’t even imagine. The impression I had of India were only based upon a few summer visits to my grandparents, filled with heat, pollution and dirt. Even though I was only six years old, I know this would be a complete change from my comfortable life in Maryland.
During my first six months in India, my expectations were met almost exactly. I hated my new apartment; I missed my school and friends back in Maryland, and I was sick of all the dirty marketplaces that filled the streets of New Delhi.
After those six months were over I finally realized that I was going to be in India for a while. I knew that I had to start making the most of my new life. It was then that I became completely involved in my school. My school, the American Embassy School, was filled with international students: Europeans, Australians, Chinese, and Americans just like me. But they all welcomed me with open arms. It was amazing to be among such diverse students, who had such incredible experiences to share.
Now, when I look back at my time in India, all I can think about is how fortunate I am to have had such a wonderful experience. My move to India not only allowed me to see a completely different side of the
world, but I was also able to establish unbreakable bonds with so many interesting and amazing people. Even now, after quite some years, I am still in contact with my closest friends from the American Embassy School. I cannot even imagine what I would be like without having lived in India. I would have missed out on meeting so many extraordinary people, and I would be a completely different person today.

Wildlife conservationists in Kenya are trying to save a rare kind of rhinoceros (犀牛). So many northern white rhinos have been hunted and killed that they are almost dying out. There were only five northern white rhinos left. So the workers hoped they could save the rhinos by helping them produce young.
Three northern white rhinos lived at The Ol Pejeta Conservancy (保護(hù)區(qū)) in Kenya. Workers with military weapons guarded the rhinos as they walked, played and ate over a large area of natural grass and trees. The three rhinos were brought to the conservancy in 2009 from a zoo in the Czech Republic. Workers hoped they would have a better chance of survival in a more natural habitat.
But breeding has not been as successful as they had hoped. And the number of northern white rhinos continues to decrease. One of the rhinos at the conservancy died in October. Another died at a zoo in the US city of San Diego, California earlier this month. The San Diego zoo still has one northern white rhino left. The zoo in the Czech Republic also has one.
The last wild northern white rhinos were hunted and killed during conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo over the past ten years. Rhinos are killed because many people in Asia want the animals’ horns (角). They believe the horns will help with medical problems. But researchers say there is no medicine in the horn, just a kind of hair.
The last male northern white rhino is 41 years old. He has been unsuccessful in producing young with a female rhino. So conservationists will use artificial methods to make a young female become pregnant. If that is not successful, they will try to fertilize a northern rhino egg and put it into a southern white rhino, who will act as a surrogate(代孕) mother. The last solution would be cross-breeding between the northern and southern white rhino species. If cross-breeding is successful, there is hope that some part of the northern white rhino species may still live on.
【1】Why were the three northern white rhinos brought to the conservancy in Kenya?
A. To protect them from being killed by the armed guards.
B. To ensure that they live better in a natural environment.
C. To keep the conservation a good balance of nature.
D. To attract more visitors to come to this area.
【2】In Paragraph 3, it’s inferred that the number of the rhinos falls down to .
A. 1 B. 3
C. 5 D. 7
【3】People hunted and killed rhinos because .
A. they wanted to get rhinos’ horns for medical use
B. rhinos ate natural grass and trees on their farmland
C. get rid of the threat of rhinos from their life
D. they wanted to do researches on producing young for rhinos
【4】From the last paragraph, we can learn that .
A. other measures will be taken to breed rhinos
B. the conservationists lead a busy life in Congo
C. breeding a baby white rhino is quite an easy job
D. cross-breeding is an effective

Last year my summer holiday was ruined by my bringing along a modern convenience that was too convenient for my own good: the iPad. Instead of looking at nature, I checked my e-mail. Instead of paddling a small boat, I followed my Twitter feed(推特簡(jiǎn)訊). Instead of reading great novels, I stuck to reading four newspapers each morning. I was behaving as if I were still in the office. My body was on vacation, but my head wasn’t.
So this year I made up my mind to try something different: avoiding the Internet. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, since I’m bad at self-control. But I was determined. I started by giving the iPad to my wife.
The cellphone signal at our house was worse than in the past, making my attempts at cheating an experience in defeat. I was trapped, forced to go through with my plan. Largely breaking away from e-mail, Twitter and my favorite newspaper websites, I had few ways to connect to the world except for the radio—and how much radio can one listen to, really? I had to do what I had planned to do all along: read books.
This experience has had a happy ending. With determination and the strong support of my wife, I won in my vacation struggle against the Internet, realizing finally that it was I, not the iPad, that was the problem. I knew I had won when we passed a Starbucks and my wife asked if I wanted to stop to use the Wi-Fi. “I don’t need it,” I said.
However, as we return to post-vacation life, a harder test begins: Can I continue when I’m back at work?
There are times when the need to know what’s being said right now is great. I have nointention of giving up my convenience completely. But I hope to resist the temptation to check my e-mail every five minutes, which leads to checking my Twitter feed and a website or two.
I think a vacation is supposed to help you rest your brain to become more productive. Here I hope this one worked.

For people with thousands of pages to read, speed reading seems like a manna(甘露)from heaven. In addition, speed reading helps lighten the load of information you have to absorb since it provides a filter that you can use in screening all bits of information before you approach them.
【1】 Examining how much information you need will help you identify how you should read a certain document to maximize your learning and comprehension.Thorough reading may no longer be necessary in some cases, such as when you only need an outline of a certain document.
Another skill that can ease the burden of a reader is the ability to read words in blocks.Make sure you do not spend too long on a certain block.【2】 This will also make reading less tiresome and boring.
To master this important skill, you have to practice reading more and more words in a certain block at one time.A suggestion shared by some experts regarding this step is to increase the distance between you and the document you are reading. If you can read more and more words in one block, you can cut down on the time it usually takes you to read a certain text and you will be able to read more in a shorter period.
Readers should also practice reducing the number of times they go back to previous sections or blocks.Using a pointer such as the tip of a pencil or pen can also help to make the flow of your reading smoother and faster.【3】 Thus, your speed in reading will largely depend on the speed of the movement of your pointer.
If you still find yourself confused about the topic even after you have finished reading the document, do not re-read right away.Re-reading immediately will just lead to slower speed in reading.【4】 Getting your own reading corner will also help.
【5】 Continue practicing and practicing the techniques aforementioned and soon, you'll achieve the reading speed that will work best for you.
A.In this technique, your eyes will follow the tip of the pointer.
B.This saves time and reduces the effort that you have to make.
C.Taking a short break first is recommended before reading the material again.
D.As a final note, the most important point is consistent and deliberate practice.
E.Your invaluable time can be saved if you can have your reading speed doubled.
F.The first step to increase your reading speed is to identify the specific information you need.
G.Reducing the time you spend on a specific number of words in a block will make no difference.
