A. They admit their mistakes.
B. They are open to criticism.
C. They are willing to learn.
D. They’re in charge of their emotions.
E. They apologize when needed.
F. They are generous with compliments.
We all see and hear about extraordinary people around us and wonder why can’t we be more like them? Sometimes we chuck that notion as absurd and unachievable. I would say not so fast. It’s not the big things that make someone extraordinary. It’s the small things. Things over a period of time have the power to radically change your life. They become extraordinary by making a difference in someone’s life. Here are some of the things extraordinary people do every day:
1. __________
Just because you’re the boss, it doesn’t mean you are right every time. It doesn’t mean you have the best ideas. Learn to back up your ideas or decisions with reason. Use logic to explain things, not authority. By doing this your decisions might invite criticism, but you will also get an opportunity to improve.
2. __________
My friend’s boss made a huge mistake by tying up with an event management company. The whole purpose of the tie-up was to promote his company but it failed miserably. Instead of defending his idea and carrying on as if nothing happened, he apologized to the team for not including them in the decision making. It’s OK to admit you were wrong. You will not only gain the respect of your team mates, you will also gain credibility.
3.__________
Remember the time, say in school or at work when you worked really hard but got nothing in return. Not even a thank you. It hurts when your efforts are not recognized. So every chance you get to praise someone, do it. A simple “That was some great work, keep it up,” can go a long way in making the employee feel great about themselves. A compliment can have a positive impact on their lives. Your team/family will love you for it.
4. __________
We all make mistakes, but what makes a person big is when he is ready to apologize. Don’t try to hide behind excuses: “I didn’t mean to say it, it just happened.” “I was irritated with such and such person so…” No. Don’t try to shift blame. Just come right out and say you’re sorry.
5. __________
Sometimes it is very important to stay mum. Especially when you’re angry or irritated or bitter, you don’t want to end up saying things you didn’t really mean to. So they take their time, they process their emotions, think back to what happened, and then come to a decision about how to tackle it. Before you say anything, consider other’s feelings. Never be rash with words or actions.

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng),并在答題卡上將該項(xiàng)涂黑。
Amanda took whatever pills she could get, largely because she was finding life hard to take. “There were a lot of problems,” she says. She had just found out that her parents were splitting(分開). It took her by surprise—and she was shocked. “I woke up one morning, and they told me.”
“On a few occasions during my two years of going to pharming parties(品藥聚會(huì)), my heart would race so fast it felt like it was going to explode. I felt weak and confused sometimes and even passed out several times,” she recalls. “But I picked up from the ground because I had a lot of pride in my drinking and drugging. I was really crazy about it and proud of the fact that I could take more than a lot of people.”
Finally, though, things got out of control. “I couldn’t go a day without taking something,” she recalls, “and after a while, the pills upset my stomach; it hurt all the time, and I hardly ate. Finally, I couldn’t take it any more. I went to my parents and told them I needed help.”
Amanda entered a treatment program and has been calm since her release last January. “Detox(戒癮) was the worst four days of my entire life,” she says. “I was throwing up all the food and had the shakes.”
She doesn’t care about drugs. “I’m so hurt from this,” says Amanda, who has ulcers(潰瘍) and damaged kidneys from the drugs and alcohol. “I have to struggle daily to stay calm. But in some ways, I feel lucky I went through it, and I’m out of it now.” Amanda wrote a song called “Goodnight to the Moonlight”. Amanda says, “It’s about how it feels to be taking drugs and alcohol, how it hurts, how it makes you feel like you’re losing yourself.”

51 Very few people choose ideal and perfect jobs for themselves and they do not do the same job for the rest of their lives. With technology and everything else changing so fast, it’s ridiculous to expect to stay in one job from the time you leave school to the time you retire. Even staying in the same company can be a huge challenge. 52
The first thing you should consider is what kinds of things you enjoy doing and what you are naturally good at. You have to look at practicality issues. You have to look at what you like to do and take a realistic look at whether the market is ever going to pay you an income for doing it. Your loving doing something doesn’t mean that the world is going to love giving you money for doing it. 53 And then narrow the list down by deciding which are at your level.
54 For example, if you want to be a doctor, you must graduate with all the papers saying you can be a doctor. The job requires a high education and an extreme amount of practice.
Many community colleges have tests that tell you what kinds of work you’d be happy to do.
55 For example, do you want to travel in your career or stay at home? How much money do you want to make? After you answer these questions, the computer will show you what careers you would be suited to. Keep in mind that what interests you at twenty isn't likely to be the same as what interests you at forty. You would also find some tests online. These will give you some ideas you have never considered.
A: Then how will you choose your first career?
B: What type of jobs are you interested in most?
C: So pick a number of different things that you love at first.
D: Most people’s jobs change at least once or twice in their lifetime.
E: They ask you a series of multiple-choice (多項(xiàng)選擇的) questions.
F: However, many companies will offer you job training before you start the work.
G: Another thing to consider is how much education or special training s required.
