What must you do when you receive a present of your birthday? You have to sit down and write a thank-you note. The words "Thank you" are very important. We have to use them on so many occasions. We say them when someone gives us a drink, helps up to pick up things, hand us a letter, lends us a book or gives us a lift.
Another important word is "Please". Many people forget to use it. It's rude to ask someone to do something without saying "Please". We have to use it when we ask for something, too. It may be a book or a pencil, more rice or more soup, help or advice. It may be in the classroom, at home, at the bus-stop or the counter. We have to use "Please" to make request pleasant.
We have to learn to say "sorry" too. When we have hurt someone's feelings, we'll have to go up and say we're sorry. When we have told a lie and feel sorry, we will have to use the same word. When we have forgotten something or broken a promise, we will have to explain with that word, too. "sorry" is a healing (和解的)word. We can make people forget wrongs by using it sincerely.
There three words are simple but important. Man had to use them long ago. We have to use them now. Our children will have to use them again. They are pleasing words to use in any language.

I live in Japan, where electronic items are a way of life, so it is no surprise that many students carry these little electronic dictionaries. E-dictionaries may be lighter and compacter (簡潔的) than any paper dictionary. However, to me, these are pretty much the limits to their advantages.
I think e-dictionaries should be limited in their use in classrooms.
E-dictionaries are much more expensive. In Japan, they cost as little as 10,000 yen(US$100)much as 40,000 yen, depending on how many functions you want (or think you want) and depending on how fashionable you are. My trusty Random House paper dictionary is copyrighted at1995, cost me a mere US$12.95 plus tax.
E-dictionaries are more fragile. Drop your paper dictionary. Go ahead. Hold it above your head and drop it.
E-dictionaries need batteries. Batteries are temperature sensitive. Batteries cost money, too.
E-dictionaries have keypads. Typing in the spelling of a word is harder and more time consuming than looking through pages and using the index at the top of each page.
Sound . Little devices beep (嘟嘟聲) when you press the buttons, but it is very disturbing to some people in a classroom situation or library.
Finally, let’s consider making corrections or additions. No dictionary is perfect, paper version or electronic. However, when you find something you’d like to change in the e-dictionary, you can’t do anything about it. You can pencil in some notes with the paper type. Similarly, if you learn a word that isn’t in the dictionary, a few notes of a pencil make it easy to increase its memory capacity. And, for those students whose habit is to mark certain words with a highlight pen for ease of future reference, again, the paper dictionary wins out.
A.But it is impossible to do so with a keypad model.
B.They may even contain more words and expressions.
C. Let me add a statement about one that really troubles me.
D.Now, try this with any lightweight plastic e-dictionary, and you’ll be picking up the pieces.
E.That huge, heavy paper dictionary that you see in your library looks like a building block in size and weight.
F.E-dictionaries have advantages as well as disadvantages.
G.Let’s take a look at the following reasons.

A few years ago my sister moved from her home in Alabama to Buffalo, New York. Since moving to Buffalo she’s become a big hockey fan and has encouraged me to start watching it. Unfortunately it’s very difficult to find hockey on television here in Alabama. Since hockey games don’t air very much on television I’ve had to look for different ways to watch hockey games.
I often see websites that claim if you go to their website you can watch television on your computer. I try out many of these websites hoping that one of the television stations is a northern station that airs hockey games. Unfortunately, most of them don’t work. Either the site doesn’t really give you what they advertise or their video player doesn’t work properly. But finally I’ve found one website that actually works.
Free Tube is a site that you can go to and watch Television online for free. You don’t have to download any kind of special software or pay money or even sign up for anything. All you have to do is go to Free Tube, choose your channel and start watching.
The different channels to choose from are separated into different categories like news, business, entertainment, music and sports. You’re not going to find channels like NBC or ABC so you can watch the latest episode of Heroes or Grey’s Anatomy but it does include some popular channels like Cartoon Network and ESPN.
There is also a movie section. Each movie channel airs different sorts of films like adventure, classics, comedy or horror and that channel will always air that kind of movies. The movie section also includes my favorite station called Maxx Trailers (預(yù)告片). Maxx Trailers airs nothing but movies trailers 24 hours a day. Some of the trailers are for movies coming out and some are for movies that have already been released but already released movies don’t go back farther than a couple of months.
So far I haven’t had any problems with Free Tube’s video player either. Whenever I choose a channel, the video almost always works and usually loads every quickly. The only problem I have with Free Tube is that there is currently a glitch if you’re using Firefox. Once you choose a channel you can’t select another channel to change to, your web browser will freeze up. So if you’re using Firefox, the only way to switch channels is to leave the site and re-enter the site, when choosing what channel you want to go to. However, Free Tube is aware of this glitch and is working with Mozilla to get it fixed right away.
If you’re missing some show everyone is talking about like Grey’s Anatomy or Heroes, this isn’t really a solution for that. But Free Tube is a good way to find channels that you weren’t aware of; there are several good stations to be found.
1.The author mainly ________ in this passage.
A. tells us his experience in using the Web
B. introduces Free Tube to the readers
C. shows us the disadvantages of Free Tube
D. shows us how to enjoy films online
2.The author got interested in watching hockey games ________
A. because he is a sports fan
B. due to his sister’s influence
C. since everyone enjoys the games
D. because he has nothing to do all day long
3.From the passage we can learn that ______________
A. the author is also very fond of movies
B. Maxx Trailers airs to-be-released movies
C. ABC is a very famous TV station in America
D. Firefox is the only software used to watch films online
4. The underlined word “glitch” probably means _________
A. cover B. change C. note D. fault

You may have heard about the many benefits of yoga, but a recent New York Times story, has stirred up more than a little controversy in the yoga community.
"How Yoga Can Wreck Your Body," by science writer William J. Broad, quotes a long-time yoga teacher who "...has come to believe that 'the vast majority of people' should give up yoga altogether. It's simply too likely to cause harm." He goes on to describe a number of cases where people have been injured doing yoga, including himself.
The research in the article isn't groundbreaking: doing any form of exercise you could potentially hurt yourself. If you look at the injury rates of other physical activities, the number of injuries sustained from yoga would pale in comparison.
Practicing yoga is just like anything in life: You have to push yourself in order to grow. But you also have to know your limits and when you're breaking them. If you stick to your comfort zone, you'll never be able to increase your flexibility. If you push to the point where you're not only uncomfortable, but in real pain, you'll likely injure yourself.
The reasons that yoga causes "serious injury”, according to the Times story, range from students' physical weaknesses to inexperienced teachers pushing too hard to the growing number of inflexible "urbanites who sit in chairs all day" trying hard to twist themselves into difficult postures.
Yoga is called a "practice" for a reason. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to tackle every pose. It doesn't matter if you can touch the floor with your palms during your first forward bend or your thousandth, or if you never get there.
We go to the mat to learn to better listen to what our bodies are telling us, and to better hear that quiet inner voice drowned out by the noise of our busy lives. It's a shame to discourage the majority of people from practicing yoga and missing out on all of the mind-body benefits that going to the mat has to offer.
1.The underlined word is best replaced by __.
A. Injure B. Benefit C. Push D. Shape
2.What does author mainly want to tell us in the 3rd paragraph?
A. All physical activities are equally harmful.
B. Yoga causes much less injuries than other physical activities.
C. Similar researches have been done before.
D. Yoga, like any other form of exercise, can hurt people.
3.Which is not mentioned among the reasons for yoga being likely to cause injury?
A. Teachers lack the knowledge of students’ limits.
B. Modern lifestyle decreases our flexibility.
C. The body doesn’t tell when you are in real pain.
D. Students themselves might not be in good physical condition.
4.What is the author’s attitude towards practicing yoga?
A. It’s a shame not to practice yoga.
B. One should push the limits in order to be perfect.
C. The majority should give up yoga for it may cause harm.
D. One should enjoy the physical and mental benefit that yoga brings.
