An old problem is getting new attention in the United States—bullying. Recent cases included the tragic case of a fifteen-year-old girl whose family moved from Ireland. She hanged herself in Massachusetts in January following months of bullying. Her parents criticized her school for failing to protect her. Officials have brought criminal charges against several teenagers.
Judy Kuczynski is president of an anti-bullying group called Bully Police USA. Her daughter Tina was the victim of severe bullying starting in middle school in the state of Minnesota. Her said, "Our daughter was a very outgoing child. She was a bubbly personality, very involved in all kinds of things, had lots of friends. And over a period of time her grades fell completely. She started having health issues. She couldn't sleep. She wasn't eating. She had terrible stomach pains. She started clenching her jaw and grinding her teeth at night. Didn't want to go to school."
Bullying is defined as negative behavior repeated over time against the same person. It can involve physical violence. Or it can be verbal — for example, insults or threats. Spreading lies about someone or excluding a person from a group is known as social or relational bullying.
And now there is cyber bullying, which uses the Internet, e-mail or text messages. It has easy appeal for the bully because it does not involve face-to-face contact and it can be done at any time.
The first serious research studies into bullying were done in Norway in the late 1970s. The latest government study in the United States was released last year. It found that about one-third of students age twelve to eighteen were bullied at school.
Susan Sweater is a psychologist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and co-director of the Bullying Research Network. She says schools should treat bullying as a mental health problem to get bullies and victims the help they need. She says bullying is connected to depression, anxiety and anti-social behavior, and bullies are often victims themselves.

C.Because it is more convenient. D.Because it can avoid cheating.
69.According to Susan Sweater, .
A.bullies are anti-social B.bullies should give victims help
C.students are not requally treated D.bullies themselves also need help
70.Which of the following can be the best title of the text?
A.Bullying—Old Irish Girl Committed Suicide
B.15-Year-Old Irish Girl Committed Suicide
C.Cyberbullying-Taking Off in Schools
D.How to Find Bullying among Teens

第二部分:閱讀理解(共20小題;每小題2分,滿分40分)
閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的A、B、C、D四個選項中,選出最佳選項。
Dear Cary,
I’m writing because I’ve understood you’ve struggled with alcoholism(酗酒).I’ve been fighting mine ever since I went through 9-11.After that,I’ve been more or less useless professionally –I’m a lawyer–and have had to resign from my job because I was discovered passed-out drunk in front of my computer.I’ve taken some medicine and it has helped somewhat.I can manage about a month without drinking, but after that I end up having a crazy stage where nothing matters except drinking. After a week or so of heavy drinking,I start having nightmares of people jumping. After that,it’s a week of not being able to get out of bed.
I was supposed to travel to a conference but didn’t make it because I got so drunk at the airport that I fell down on my face and spent the rest of the day in the emergency room. I have been hiding from my family since then.Fortunately they won’t be expecting me to come back for a week or so.Otherwise, they would notice the bump on my forehead and two black eyes.
I don’t really know what I’m asking you.Cary,I need a way out that doesn’t involve causing pain to my family.I’m taking medicine, but I still have these attacks every few months. If there’s alcohol in the house,I can’t stay away from it.It seems that this will never end. I’m afraid of what will happen if something bad happens, like a family member dying,or getting fired again.
Thanks for reading.
Yours
T

科目:高中英語 來源:20102011學(xué)年江西省高二下學(xué)期期中考試英語卷 題型:閱讀理解
Many of us already know about several American superstitions(迷信). Having a black cat cross your path, walking under a ladder, and breaking a mirror are all bad luck. In addition, there are many other superstitions that are worth knowing. Understanding them will keep you safe from evil spirits —if you believe in such things —and impress your American friends when you mention them.
Like the superstitions in other cultures, American superstitions often involve the things important in daily life, such as health, numbers, and marriage. For example, have you ever had a cough that would not go away? According to one American superstition, you should take a piece of your hair and put it between two slices of buttered bread. Next, feed this hair sandwich to a dog and say, “Eat well, you hound, may you be sick and I be sound.” This will trick the evil spirits and help your cough. It will also raise some eyebrows if you try it.
In American superstitions, the number three is very important. Often, Americas will say, “All things come in threes.” Three is lucky because it represents the traditional family: mother, father, and child. Therefore, gifts, letters, and guests will often arrive at your home in groups of three. However, it is also possible for bad events, like accidents and funerals, to come in threes as well.
Another time people pay attention to superstitions is when they get married. During a wedding, brides must wear or carry “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”. The old and borrowed things will bring luck to the person who gives them to the bride. The new and blue things will bring good fortune to the bride herself. The next time someone you know is getting married, be sure to recite this phrase.
As it would be unlucky to discuss one more superstition, we will wind things up here. Keep your fingers crossed, and stay lucky!
1.The passage is most probably entitled .
A. American’s Bad Luck B. Cross-culture and Superstitions
C. American Superstitions D. Daily Life in Superstitions
2.The underlined sentence in the second paragraph “It will also raise some eyebrows if you try it.” means .
A. when you try it, the dog will raise its eyebrows.
B. you will make people surprised when you try this trick
C. only if you raise your eyebrows can the trick work
D. you will believe in the trick after you try it
3. In American’s view, the number three is a(n) number.
A. lucky B. unlucky C. special D. ordinary
4. On the wedding, the bride often uses old and borrowed things so as to .
A. save some money for the wedding
B. bring good luck to the people who give them to the bride
C. give the good luck to the bride herself
D. pass the bad luck to others
5. After reading the passage, we may feel it is written in a tone.
A. formal B. serious C. humorous D. critical
