One afternoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet 1 of the splendid artwork.
A young 2 viewing the paintings ahead of me 3 nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided the lady was doing all the talking. I admired the man’s 4 for putting up with her 5 stream of words. 6 by their noise, I moved on.
I met them several times as I moved 7 the various rooms of art. Each time I heard her continuous flow of words, I moved away 8.
I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop making a 9 when the couple approached the 10. Before they left, the man 11 into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He 12 it into a long stick and then 13 his way into the coatroom to get his wife’s jacket.
“He’s a 14 man,” the clerk at the counter said. “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. During his recovery, he made a promise his life wouldn’t change. So, as before, he and his wife come in 15 there is a new art show.”
“But what does he get out of the art?” I asked. “He can’t see.”
“Can’t see! You’re 16. He sees a lot. More than you and I do,” the clerk said. “His wife 17 each painting so he can see it in his head.”
I learned something about patience, 18 and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without 19 and the courage of a husband who would not 20 blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away, their arms intertwined.

Teenagers at one German school are learning how to achieve happiness alongside other traditional 1 such as maths and languages.
The class sits in a circle with their eyes shut and they count from one to ten: someone starts, the 2 voice comes from the far right, a third from the other side.
The aim of the game is to 3 for an opportunity to shout out the 4 without clashing (相撞) with another voice or leaving a pause. On the first try,5 of the young Germans try to be first, while a few are too shy to join in. But by the fifth 6 , they develop a rhythm (節(jié)奏) . The message gives other people space but also claims your own. This is a requirement for social well-being.
Unlike schools in other nations, German schools do not usually have school sports teams or seek to build school spirit. Many teens admit they are 7 and confused, but school is not usually the place to find relief.
The Willy Hellpach School in Heidelberg is the first in the nation to develop a happiness 8 It is 9 for 17-19years old students to prepare for university entrance exams. "The course isn't there to make you happy," Ernst Fritz-Schubert, the school principal, warned pupils, " 10 rather to help you discover the ways to become happy. "
Cooking a meal together will be one of the class 11 , along with improving body language under the 12 of two professional actresses.
The course is taught for three periods a week. Despite the happy subject, the pupils themselves insist it is no laughing matter.
"In the first period, we had to each say something 13 about another member of the class and about ourselves. No laughing at people or teasing," said Fanny, 17.
The message is that self-esteem (自尊) improves 14 too.
Research by the school shows it is not the first to start happiness classes and they also exist at some US universities, but are mainly based on positive thinking, using 15 from studies of depression.
"That would be too one-sided for us. We want to show how decent (好的) food or exercise can help too," the principal said.

So many blessings(幸事) I had never 7 came to me when I was alone and helpless. Bus drivers picked me up8 anywhere they saw me. Many people 9 the door for me. Such things were small but 10 for a person on walking sticks.
11people’s kindness, I did whatever I could to make people 12 . I made many jokes about my two 13and the bad fall. And I tried not to 14 even a single time about what had happened. I also tried to be kind to 15 students who were injured. I took time to 16 with a girl in a wheelchair who always ate lunch alone.
I soon realized that pain can be 17 by mental (精神上的) power. I could see that 18 I was using physical sticks, there were hundreds of mental sticks I could depend on. I also saw that sometimes 19 situations could be good. Einstein once said, “You can live your life seeing nothing as a miracle( 奇跡 ) 20 seeing everything as a miracle.”

The other day I was talking to a stranger on the bus; he told me that he had a good 1 in Chicago and he wondered if, by any chance, I2 to know him. For a moment, I thought he might be3, but I could tell from the expression on his face that he was not. He was 4. I felt that it was ridiculous (可笑的) to 5 that I could possibly have ever met with his friend out of millions of people in Chicago. But, 6, I just smiled and reminded(提醒) him that Chicago was a very 7 city. He nodded, and I thought he was going to be glad to drop the topic and talk about something else. But I was wrong. He was silent for a few minutes, and then he 8 to tell me all about his friend.
His friend’s main 9 in life seemed to be tennis. He was an excellent tennis player, and he 10had his own tennis court(網(wǎng)球場(chǎng)). There were a lot of people with swimming 11, yet there were only two people with private (私人的)tennis court; his friend in Chicago was one of them. I told him that I knew several12 like that, including my brother, who was doctor in California. He 13 that maybe there were more private courts in the country than he14 but he did not know of any others. Then he asked me15 my brother lived in California. When I said Sacramento, he said that was a coincidence (巧合)16 his Chicago friend also spent the summer in Sacramento last year and he lived next door to a 17who had a tennis court in his backyard. I said I felt that really was a coincidence because my next-door neighbour had gone to Sacramento last summer and had 18 the house next to my brother’s house. For a moment, we stared at each other, but we did not say anything.
“Would your friend’s name happen to be Roland Kirkwood?” I asked finally. He 19 and said, “Yes. Would your brother’s name happen to be Dr Rey Hunter?” It was my 20 to laugh. “Yes,” I replied.
