Here is an astonishing and significant fact:Mental work alone can't make us tire. It sounds absurd. But a few years ago, scientists tried to find out how long the human brain could labor without reaching a stage of fatigue (疲勞). To the amazement of these scientists, they discovered that blood passing through the brain, when it is active, shows no fatigue at all!
If we took a drop of blood from a day laborer, we would find it full of fatigue toxins at and fatigue products. But if we took blood from the brain of an Albert Einstein, it would show no fatigue toxins at the end of the day.
So far as the brain is concerned,it can work as well and swiftly at the end of eight or even twelve hours of effort as at the beginning. The brain is totally tireless. So what makes us tired? Some scientists declare that most of our fatigue comes from our mental and emotional attitudes. One of England’s most outstanding scientists,J.A.Hadfield,says,"The greater part of the fatigue from which we suffer is of mental origin. In fact, fatigue of purely physical origin is rare."Dr.Brill,a famous American scientist, goes even further,He declares,"One hundred percent of the fatigue of sitting worker in good health is due to emotional problems."
What kinds of emotions make sitting workers tired? Joy? Satisfaction? No! A feeling of being bored, anger, anxiety, tenseness, worry,a feeling of not being appreciated—those are the emotions that tire sitting workers. Hard work by itself seldom causes fatigue. We get tired because our emotions produce nervousness in the body.
1.What surprised the scientists a few years ago?
A. Fatigue toxins could hardly be found in a laborer's blood.
B. Albert Einstein didn’t feel worn after a day’s work.
C. The brain could work for many hours without fatigue.
D. A mental worker's blood was filled with fatigue toxins.
2.According to the author, which of the following can make sitting workers tired?
A. Challenging mental work B. Unpleasant emotions
C. Endless tasks D. Physical labor.
3.What's the author's attitude towards the scientists' idea?
A. He agrees with them.
B. He doubts them.
C. He argues against them.
D. He hesitates to accept them.

Helicopter parenting is an expression that describes parents who are over focused on their child, like a helicopter hovering ( 盤旋 ) closely over him, whether he needs them or not.
__1.__ As family sizes are getting smaller, more attention is focused on the one or two children and some parents have responded by taking more control over their lives. Also, many parents are making an attempt to develop close bonds with their children, often being overly involved in their lives. Also, some parents always fear that their children may fail in what they want to achieve, so they try to prevent the serious consequence, especially if it seems it could be avoided with parental involvement.
Sometimes the practice continues to spread due to what is called “peer (同齡人) pressure”. When parents observe other parents overparenting, it will pressure them to do the same to make sure that their own children don’t fall behind.
__2.__ For example, by always “doing” for the child, the hovering parents don’t give the child a chance to fully develop his sense of independence. As a result, the child may lack the confidence necessary to do well in school. As an adult, he might find it difficult to deal with life’s challenges. __3.__ Research has shown that helicopter parents have more anxiety because they constantly judge their own value by their children’s success.
__4.__ Experts suggest that you should let your child do tasks that he is physically and mentally capable of doing by himself, which will help to build a self-confident kid. __5.___ Gradually, your child will learn independence as he steps out on his own. Meanwhile, valuable lessons can occur when making mistakes. So if your child is allowed to make mistakes, he’s given the opportunity to learn from those lessons.
A. So how can you avoid being a helicopter parent?
B. There are a number of reasons for helicopter parenting.
C. There may be various consequences of helicopter parenting.
D. The term “helicopter parents” has been widely used in the media.
E. This parenting style also affects the parents.
F. It is also important to let your child struggle while trying new activities.
G. Some parents are just protecting their investment or acting like any other consumer.

On the one hand, people lived in cities hope that traffic conditions can be improved. Beside, citizens also wish air pollution caused by cars, factories and daily life could be controlled. Maybe more trees should be planted to help improve the environment better.
On the other hand, farmers had the dream of being provided with a better education; they want their children to receive higher education and not to fall behind urban children any longer. What’s more, we hope to have better medical treatment and live a healthier life in the future.

How often one hears children wishing they were grown up, and the old wishing they were young again! Each age has its pleasure and its pains, and the happiest person is the one who enjoys what each age gives him without wasting any time in useless regrets.
Children is a time when there are few duties to make life hard. If a child has good parents, he is fed, looked after, and loved whatever he may do. It’s impossible for him to be given so much again in his life without having to do anything in return. Besides, life is always giving new things to the child. A child finds pleasure in playing in the rain, or in the snow. His first visit to the seaside makes him wild. But a child has his pains; he is not so free to do as he wishes. He is continually being told not to do this, not to do that, or being punished for what he has done wrong. His life is therefore not perfectly happy.
When the young man starts to make his own living, he becomes free from the rules of school and parents; but at the time he is forced to accept duties. He can no longer expect others to pay for his food, his clothes and his room, but has to work if he wants to live comfortably. If he spends most of his time playing about in the way that he used to as a child, he will go hungry. And if he breaks the law of society as he used to break the laws of his parents, he may go to prison, lf, however, he works hard, keeps out of trouble, and has good health, he can have the great happiness of seeing himself make steady progress in his job and of building up his own position in society.
Old age has always been thought of as the worst age to be, but it is not necessary for the old to be unhappy. With old age should come wisdom and the ability to help others with advice wisely given. They can have the joy of seeing their Children making progress in life; they can watch their grandchildren growing up around them and, perhaps, best of all, they can, if their life has been a useful one, feel the happiness of having come through the battle of life safely and of having reached a time when they can lie back and rest, leaving others to continue the fight.
1. The main reason children wish they were grown up, and the old wish they were young again is that ___________.
A. both are satisfied with the strong points at their ages
B. both enjoy the strong points at the other age by looking back or looking forward
C. the human beings should be like this
D. regrets and happiness both exist whether they are young or old
2.According to the second paragraph, the writer thinks that __________.
A. life for a child is comparatively easy
B. a child should enjoy the equal freedom with seniors
C. if much is given to a child, he is expected to do something in return
D. a child’s greatest dissatisfaction lies in the trouble he makes
3.Which of the following is NOT needed for a youth man to be happy?
A. Hard work. B. freedom from troubles.
C. Wealth. D. Health.
