【題目】 Long plane trips can be tiring. Luckily, there are things you can do both during and after a long flight that can help reduce (減輕) your discomfort.

During the flight

1 Boredom gives you the chance to pay attention to your discomfort. Instead, help pass the time by watching a movie, reading a book, writing a letter, walking up and down the aisle (過道), or listening to music.

Drink a lot and eat just a little. The longer the flight, the more the air dries out. 2 Stay away from wine and coffee because they can make you lose more water. Eat lightly.

Make yourself comfortable. Wear loose-fitting clothing and sit comfortably. 3 Avoid crossing your legs, and get any hard subjects out of your back pockets.

Get a good seat. Request a seat over the wing or the wheels. 4 Sitting in an aisle seat will make it easier for you to get up from your seat and will give you more legroom.

Sleep. If possible, sleep during night flights, and just take a very short sleep on day flights.

After arrival

There is no useful way to deal with jet lag (時差綜合癥). 5 For example, you can reset your watch when you take off, and you can eat and sleep at the local time right away.

A.Keep busy.

B.Avoid ear pain.

C.However, environmental treatment may help.

D.This is where you will hardly feel the moving or shaking.

E.Proper sitting helps reduce aches, pains and back soreness.

F.Drinking about one glass of water each hour can reduce this dryness.

G.Reduce ear pressure during takeoff and landing by having hard candy.

Not surprisingly, a movement 3(target) the poor was started. People in the underdeveloped world are more open 4 calls to be careful with money. But 5 idea of being thrifty (節(jié)儉) has also become popular among the rich. Take Mark Zuckerberg for example. Other people don't spend money because they don't like the culture of 7(consume). This is connected to the view 8 we should make ourselves happy through the activities we take part in, rather than with what we buy.

But however we view money, moderate spending is certainly a good idea when we are still too young to get a job. There is a British saying that 9(offer) some good advice in this situation: “Look after the pennies, and the pounds will look after 10(they).”

【題目】 Every life-changing decision we make in our life shapes our current reality. Let’s talk about a few ways that you can use for reference when making your own life-changing decisions.

Realize the power of decision making. Before you start making a decision, you have to understand what a decision does. 1 When you decide to pick up a cigarette to smoke it, that decision might result in your picking up one after one later on to get that same high feeling.

Carry your decision out. It’s pointless to make a decision and just keep it in your head 2 If you want to make real changes in life, you have to apply action to your decision until it’s completed.

Tell others about your decisions. Telling other people what we’re going to do can make us follow through. For example, if you decide to become an early riser, you can go to a forum and tell people that you will wake up at 6 a.m. and keep on it. 3

Learn from your past decisions. It’s common that you are going to mess up at times when it comes to making decisions. 4 Ask yourself what is good or bad about your decision and what you will do to make a better decision next time.

5 For example, if you made the decision to lose ten pounds by next month through aerobics (有氧運動). You don’t have to just do aerobics. You can be open to losing weight through different methods of dieting as long as it helps you reach your goal in the end.

A.Maintain a flexible approach.

B.Enjoy the process of making decisions.

C.That’s the same as not making a decision at all.

D.It always takes a lot of time to make a decision.

E.Any decision that you make causes a chain of events to happen.

F.So, instead of beating yourself up over it, learn a lesson from it.

G.You’re able to accomplish this because you feel it an obligation to keep your word.

【題目】 When I was growing up in America, I was ashamed of my mother’s Chinese English. Because of her English, she was often treated unfairly. People in department stores, at banks, and at restaurants did not take her seriously, did not give her good service, pretended not to understand her, or even acted as if they did not hear her.

My mother has long realized the limitations of her English as well. When I was fifteen, she used to have me call people on the phone to pretend I was she. I was forced to ask for information or even to shout at people who had been rude to her. One time I had to call her stockbroker (股票經(jīng)紀人). I said in an adolescent voice that was not very convincing(令人相信的), “This is Mrs. Tan.”

And my mother was standing beside me, whispering loudly, “Why he don’t send me check already two week late.”

And then, in perfect English I said : “I’m getting rather concerned .You agreed to send the check two weeks ago, but it hasn’t arrived.”

Then she talked more loudly. “What he want? I come to New York tell him front of his boss.” And so I turned to the stockbroker again, “I can’t tolerate(容忍) any more excuse. If I don’t receive the check immediately, I am going to have to speak to your manager when I am in New York next week.”

The next week we ended up in New York. While I was sitting there red-faced, my mother, the real Mrs. Tan, was shouting to his boss in her broken English.

When I was a teenager, my mother’s broken English embarrassed(使尷尬) me. But now, I see it differently. To me, my mother’s English is perfectly clear, perfectly natural. It is my mother tongue. Her language, as I hear it, is vivid, direct, and full of observation and wisdom. It was the language that helped shape(影響) the way I saw things, expressed ideas, and made sense of the world.

3After the author made the phone call, ________.

A.they forgave the stockbrokerB.they failed to get the check

C.they went to New York immediatelyD.they spoke to their boss at once

4What does the author think of her mother’s English now?

A.It confuses her.B.It embarrasses her.

C.It helps her understand the world.D.It helps her tolerate rude people.
