Nowadays, it seems like everything is going digital. From news articles and recipes to yoga classes, you can find almost everything on the Internet. Many people find this way of life more 1 (convenience). Perhaps that’s why some people choose 2 (shop) for their clothes online.

With the click of a button, you can order anything you want, and have it 3 (deliver) directly to your front door. For someone with a busy lifestyle, this seems ideal. Firstly, online shopping can be far less stressful 4 hitting the high street shops. There are no huge crowds of people 5 boringly long queues. With online shopping, it’s just you and your computer. Secondly, online 6 (store) don’t have opening time and closing time. If you want to, you can even place an online shopping order at three o’clock in the morning!

However, there are also several cons. With online shopping, you can’t try before you buy, which 7 (be) a clear disadvantage. When your new clothes arrive, you may find they don’t fit very 8 (perfect). It’s always 9 (annoy) when a dress is a little too big, or when sleeves are awkwardly short. Sometimes, the clothes are not 10 you are expecting. A piece of clothing might look great in photos online, but quite different in real life.

A funny thing happened to Arthur when he was on the way to work one day. As he walked along Park Avenue near the First National Bank, he heard the sound of someone trying to start a car. He tried again and again but couldn’t get the car moving. Arthur turned and looked inside at the face of a young man who looked worried. Arthur stopped and asked, “It looks like you’ve got a problem,” Arthur said.

I’m afraid so. I’m in a big hurry and I can’t start my car.”

“Is there something I can do to help?” Arthur asked. The young man looked at the two suitcases in the back seat and then said, “Thanks. If you’re sure it wouldn’t be too much trouble, you could help me get these suitcases into a taxi.”

“No trouble at all. I’d be glad to help.”

The young man got out and took one of the suitcases from the back seat. After placing it on the ground, he turned to get the other one. Just as Arthur picked up the first suitcase and started walking, he heard the long loud noise of an alarm.

It was from the bank. There had been a robbery!

Park Avenue had been quiet a moment before. Now the air was filled with the sound of the alarm and the shouts of people running from all directions. Cars stopped and the passengers joined the crowd in front of the bank. People asked each other, “What happened?” But everyone had a different answer.

Arthur, still carrying the suitcase, turned to look at the bank and walked right into the young woman in front of him.

She looked at the suitcase and then at him. Arthur was surprised. “Why is she looking at me like that?” He thought. “The suitcase! She thinks I’m the bank thief!”

Arthur looked around at the crowd of people. He became frightened, and without another thought, he started to run.

【題目】 It's tough to see or hear of a friend in crisis. One idea to keep in mind is that it is healthy for the distressed person to feel what he or she feels in the moment. When a person in crisis feels understood, he or she feels less alone and connected to the person who understands.

A person who experiences empathy(同理心)from a friend who can “go there”for a few minutes in order to authentically understand while still maintaining a strong and supportive attitude may be relieving and healing. While a friend is telling you about the circumstance, the first and most important step is to listen for feelings, not ways to solve the problem.

For example, a friend is terribly upset because her husband is threatening to leave her. After fully honoring the feelings, it is important to ask the friend what would help. Maybe it is a good cry and some ice cream. Perhaps it's a glass of wine and a walk. Everyone has different ways of dealing. Be respectful and ask the friend what she needs or wants, not what you prescribe.

Take a second example, say a close friend is being misrepresented by other friends. The friends are gossiping about her. During a conversation with her, listen for feelings. Honor her hurt and shock. The same equation is useful with a partner.

Helping a friend or partner in crisis not only helps the person, but creates closeness and trust in the relationship, making opening up in the probable future. In addition, the person who is empathizing feels positive because he or she was able to help. When a person is truly able to comfort and reassure a loved one, he or she feels vital and useful, strengthening the relationship.

1What should we do first when we know a friend is in crisis?

A.Keep away from him/her.

B.Buy him/her a glass of wine.

C.Understand how he/she feels.

D.Show him/her ways to solve the problem.

2What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?

A.A way to solve the crisis.B.A way to relieve a bad mood.

C.A way to listen for feelings.D.A way to honor the feelings.

3How does the author prove his/her idea?

A.By listing data.B.By quoting sayings.

C.By giving examples.D.By conducting surveys.

4What does the text mainly talk about?

A.How to keep a loved one.B.How to make new friends.

C.How to work with your partner.D.How to help a friend in trouble.

Twenty years ago, getting sick meant visiting a doctor. Now,many internet tools seek to identify what disease a person has based on symptoms described. The following are some studies.

Besides, online symptom checkers can help seriously-ill patients for a guided care.According to the findings, overall the 23 symptom checkers provided correct advice in 58 percent of cases in more critical cases.

Australian researchers at Edith Cowan University in Perth.did a new study, which examined 36 international internet-based symptom checkers, finding these online symptom checkers were rarely correct and could be harmful.

Generally speaking, people often return to a set level of happiness despite life's ups and downs,For instance, people who win the lottery tend to return to roughly their original levels of happiness after the novelty of the win has worn off.The same-is true for those who are in major accidents and lose the use of their legs. The change in ability can be damaging at first, but people generally return to their pre-accident levels of happiness after the habituation period. This phenomenon is called hedonic adaptation,a concept studied by positive psychology researchers.

There are activities that are more or less affected by hedonic adaptation. Some of these activities are known as pleasures. They can lift your mood and leave you feeling wonderful, but their effects can be relatively a short time. What's more,we get used to them relatively quickly. If you have the same meal every day for a week, for example, you may find it to be less pleasurable by the end of the week. Gratifications(滿足)are also such activities affected by hedonic adaptation. They can get us into a feeling of"flow”where we don't notice the passage of time, and where we're thoroughly engaged in what we're doing.Gratifications are activities that require more effort and thought, but the payoff is higher as well The more we engage, the more we enjoy!

Knowing that pleasures don't last long in their effects may make them seem less worth the effort than gratifications. There are reasons why they can be perfect for certain situations, however.First, they bring a quick lift in mood without a great deal of effort. This is actually quite valuable because there is significant research that shows that a lift in mood can lead to chain reaction of positive feelings.Second, gratifications do take more effort,so when you only have few minutes or a very limited amount of energy, pleasures are often the simpler and more accessible option.

Thankfully, we can do something to move away from the limiting effects of hedonic adaptation and engage in activities that can create a greater level of happiness in lie.For example,be sure to make time for hobbies! It doesn't really matter what the hobby is;as long as it's one you enjoy, you'll benefit from it,and these benefits will extend into the rest of your life. It's also a good idea to help other people. This can create greater meaning in your life, and thus create greater happiness.Enjoying your positive experiences is also a great way to maximize the positive in your life.So at the end of the day,a few days, a week, write about three things you enjoyed that day. Then, you'll be reliving these positive experience as you write about them, and can relive them again when you read.
