A mother from Colorado who doctors said had died while giving birth to her son, has said it is a
Christmas miracle that both she and the boy are alive.
Tracey Hermanstorfer's heart stopped beating and her son Coltyn appeared lifeless after the
Caesarean (剖腹產(chǎn)術(shù)) section on Christmas Eve.However a few minutes after he was born, both began
breathing again.Dr Stephanie Martin told Good Morning America she could not explain how the pair
survived.Mrs Hermanstorfer and her husband Mike told the American television show that their baby
was now healthy and that they were doing "good" following the drama at Colorado Springs Memorial
Hospital.
The couple, who already had two children, had to go into the hospital seven weeks earlier than
planned. Her husband,37, said his wife was tired after receiving an epidural (硬膜外麻醉) during the
labour (分娩) but after closing her eyes, she "wasn't waking up". She stopped breathing and she is
believed to have suffered a heart attack before her heart stopped beating entirely.
Dr Martin said she was called in and that the outlook was grim since in most situations like this, "
despite the best efforts of the team", the mother was often unable to be revived. In that case doctors then
tried to focus on delivering the baby but when he was born he was "completely lifeless".
Mr Hermanstorfer told the Associated Press news agency, "I had everything in the world taken
from me, and in an hour and a half I had everything given to me."
Dr Martin said she did not have a "great explanation" for why Mrs Hermanstorfer's heartbeat returned."Somewhere between four and five minutes she had been without heart rate and had stopped breathing
a minute or two prior to her heart stopping, " she said. The doctors were then able to bring the baby back
to life, and the mother was alive after that.
Despite tests, she said doctors were still not sure about what had happened. However Mrs
Hermanstorfer and her husband Mike have said they believed it was down to a miracle. She said:"I got a
second chance in life."

six years of marriage. Then the news about Tom changed. His wife Betty came back;  he earned a fine

                                                          My Best Enemy
Once again, I was in a new school. So was a girl in my class named Lisa. That's where the similarity
ended.
I was tall and she was small. My thick black hair had been recently cut short into an untidy style. Her
natural blonde hair flowed to her waist and looked great.I was 12 and one of the oldest in the class while
she was 11 and the youngest.I was awkward and shy.She wasn't.I couldn't standher, considering her my
enemy. But she liked me and wanted to be friends with me.
One day, she invited me over and I said yes-I was too shocked to answer any other way.My family

wore the latest fashions wanted me to go home with her after school.
She lived in a fun part of town that had two pizza places, an all night bookstore, a movie theater and

very surprised when she led me into an old apartment building. She lived on the fourth floor in a tworoom
place with her mother, her stepfather, her two brothers and her sister.

wild imaginations. We had a great time that afternoon.

movie theater gave her free tickets...Soon I was included in her magic world. We slept over at each other's house and spent every free moment together.

閱讀理解
During my high school years, the most important thing was what I was wearing to the Friday night
dance and who I was taking.Although college was talked about, it was the least of my worries.
When I was graduating eighth grade and starting high school, my older brother was graduating twelfth
grade and going onto college. For my graduation, he gave me a card in which he wrote, "Enjoy your four
years...They go by fast." I remember not believing him then, but looking back...He was right. Those four
years shaped who I was as a person, pushed me to my limit and encouraged me to become an adult.
However, I was so completely absorbed in my junior and senior years of high school, that when
someone spoke of college I brushed it off.I wasn't ready to leave my comfort zone of having all of my
closest friends together and knowing what every single day was going to be like.Studying was something
I did only AFTER I nailed my halftime dance performance.I knew my parents wanted me to go to college, so I told them I would go to community college (社區(qū)學(xué)院) and I didn't worry about my SAT (美國(guó)大
學(xué)入學(xué)考試) scores.
When my senior year passed and everyone graduated and went off to their own colleges, I started to
wish I had done the same.My friends were living away, meeting new people, and discovering new places, while I was living at home and driving to and from class every day.It seemed exactly like high school.I
hated it!I thought college was supposed to be different! Why didn't I take more time to research colleges
and do the same?I ended up loving college and wishing I had four years to enjoy the campus (大學(xué)校園) atmosphere instead of two.
My advice to anyone thinking about attending college is to think about it very seriously and look into
all of your choices well ahead of time. Now I have graduated and I am working fulltime and I would do
anything to go back to my high school days for a second chance!
