It doesn't matter when or how much a person sleeps, but everyone needs some rest to stay alive.
That's what all doctors thought, until they heard about Al Herpin. Al Herpin, it was said, never slept.
Could this be true ? The doctors decided to see this strange man themselves.
Al Herpin was 90 years old when the doctors came to his home in New Jersey. They thought for
sure that he got some sleep of some kind. So they stayed with him and watched every movement he
made. But they were surprised. Though they watched him hour after hour and day after day, they never
saw Herpin sleeping. In fact, he did not even own a bed. He never needed one.
The only rest that Herpin sometimes got was sitting in a comfortable chair and reading newspapers.
The doctors were puzzled by this strange continuous sleeplessness. They found only one answer that

A job fair allows many companies from your area, as well as other areas to gather together to recruit
suitable people to help the development of their business. These companies typically attend the job fairs
to accept new people into their team.
Take Cumberland in Maryland as an example, the job fair is held at the Holiday Inn's large
meetingroom, which is next to the main hall. Dates change but the event lasts from 8 am until 6 pm throughout the whole week. The job fair is usually held several times every year; dates can be found in the

preparations based on the needs of the companies you are interested in.

[1]There are many different types of volunteer (志愿者) options (選擇) for teens, and you will no
doubt find more than this article can possibly list. But here are a few ideas to get you started on the path
to being a successful volunteer.
[2] Red Cross programs and many blood banks (血庫) need teen volunteers. In fact the Red Cross
has an entire Junior Red Cross that is devoted to offering volunteers jobs to teens. You will have the
chance to  help others directly and do various jobs.
[3] Parks and recreation (休閑,消遣) centers often run camps that are mostly worked by teens. If

offer these volunteer options to teens. Teens may volunteer for a year or two and then qualify for paid
position as instructors.

the library. Volunteers can shelve books, read stories to children, help supervise (管理) sections of a
library, or learn how to check out books for people. If you have ______, you can provide extra help
by working with people to surf the Internet on library computers.
[5] Animal shelters give teens a chance to have direct contact with animals. You may have to do
some clean-up work for animals, but you also have a chance to decide whether a career working with
them is right for you.
[6]Lastly, teens who want to volunteer but don't have much time to spend on volunteer activities can

A. Smiling relieves stress
B. Smiling attracts people
C. Smiling helps stay positive.
D. Smiling defeats diseases.
E.  Smiling changes mood.
F. Smiling builds up confidence.
1. ____
Like a flower with a pleasant scent, your smile can draw people close enough to see inside you.
That's Smile Power. A smile has the power to radiate the qualities that make you beautiful on the
inside-kindness, friendship, honesty, respect, patience, and self-control. So please give smiles away
like flowers. Let your smile be an invitation for others to get to know the great person behind the smile.
Then let people see that your smile doesn't stop at your mouth. It goes all the way to your heart. On the
other hand, we are drawn to people who smile and we want to know a smiling person and figure out
what is so good. Frowns, scowls and grimaces all push people away-but a smile draws them in.
2. _____
Next time you are feeling down, try putting on a smile. There's a good chance you mood will change
for the better. Smiling can trick the body into helping you to have a good feeling. So smile is a good state
of mind, you have a smile, then you will have a better feelings. So when you are smiling you lighten up the
room, change the moods of others, and make things happier.
3. _____
The muscles we use to smile lift the face, making a person appear younger. Don't go for a face lift, just
try smiling your way through the day-you'll look younger. Then you will feel better and have more
confident, thus are more likely to be promoted, and more likely to be approached. Put on a smile at
meetings and appointments and people will react to you differently because of your confidence.
4.  _____
Stress can really show up in our faces. Smiling helps to prevent us from looking tired, worn down,
and overwhelmed. When you are stressed, take time to put on a smile. This is because when you smile,
there is a measurable reduction in your blood pressure. You can sit for a few minutes, take a reading.
Then smile for a minute and take another reading while still smiling. You will be happy to see your stress
disappears quickly.
5. _____
Now try to think of something negative without losing the smile. It's hard. When we smile our body is
sending the rest of us a message that "Life is Good!" Stay away from depression, stress and worry by
smiling. So smile is a positive state of mind, every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift
to that person, a beautiful thing and then other people will also answer your smile.

For Chinese students the end of their senior year is filled with studying and stress as they prepare for
the college entrance exams in June. But for American high school seniors the experience couldn't be more different. The end of senior year is a celebration of their time in high school and involves parties, games
and fun.
Senioritis is a commonly used expression. It means seniors have a disease which makes them unable
to do work. This starts in April when seniors find out where they have been accepted to university.
Unwilling to do school work, seniors have plenty of other activities to focus on. Many schools have
a "Senior Show", in which only seniors are allowed to perform. Some seniors sing or dance but many of
them perform skits (滑稽短劇), where they make fun of their favorite teachers or their friends. For
example, a group of boys may dress up and imitate a group of their girl friends. It is all very light-hearted.
The "Senior Show" is usually a part of Senior Week, which is a week specifically dedicated (專用的)
to seniors. During this week, seniors usually get academic or athletic awards they have won over their
high school careers. The seniors also vote for one of their male and female classmates who they believe is
the best-looking or funniest or most involved, etc. These are then published in the yearbook.
The yearbook is an important part of high school for seniors. It is usually dedicated to them and has all
their pictures and a quote from them in it. Then seniors go around and get it signed by their friends so they can always remember their time together.
Of course during all of this time, seniors are preparing for the Senior Prom, which is an important
moment in American culture. It is the most important dance in a young American's life.
The end of senior year is a truly special and wonderful time for American students. It's something they
will remember for the rest of their lives.

Most of us lead a busy life.   1  We think, "If I reached my goal, then I would be happy", or "If I
