The society today is in a state of changing. Everywhere ways of doing things are changing and the
items that we use on a daily basis are also changing. This change has also come to the clothing business.
Most people are not aware that organic clothing production is now a billion-dollar industry. Many of us
probably don't even know what organic clothing is.
Organic clothing is the material that is made and grown in accordance with organic standards. This
means that in the process of growing the material no harm is done to the air, water and the earth itself.
These materials are not harmful to the earth's natural ecological system and meet the standards of what is
well known today as "going green". Another fact that most people are not aware of is that the clothing
industry adds more pollution to the natural environment than most other industries.
Cotton is one material where pesticides are used a lot because the crops are always being attacked
by various insects and bugs. On the contrary, organically grown cotton does not use any of these harmful
pesticides and nor do they add any other chemicals to the natural cotton.
Organic clothing is catching on but you may not find it in your local department stores. However, you
would be more likely to find a better variety by going online. Organic clothing may be a bit more
expensive than ordinary clothing. Cotton is not the only material that is grown organically, although it is
very popular.    Other materials include hemp, bamboo and wool. Just as with organically grown cotton,
there are no pesticides or chemicals used in the growing process of these materials. Most people say that
clothing made from organic cotton has a smoother feel and is softer and gentler on the skin.

Directions: Read the following passage and choose the most suitable heading from this list for each
paragraph of the passage. There is one extra heading.
A. Don't get too close
B. Know your boss
C. Don't stay late
D. Make your boss look good
AB. Solve your own problems
AC. Listen attentively
1.
Learning how to deal effectively with a superior will benefit both of you. Good listening means hearing not only what the boss says but also what he or she implies. It means being able to summarize and to respond
intelligently. Forget any nervousness and concentrate on what your boss is saying. Take notes. Ask a
question or two, briefly summarize what has been said.
Remember: boss like people who don't have to be told things twice.
2.
Nothing eats away at a manager's time - and influence - more than employees who can't solve their own
problems. Handling your own difficulties will help you develop the skills and contacts you need to work
effectively and will raise your value in your boss's eyes.
3.
Hard work shows enthusiasm and inspires others. Put in extra hours at the beginning and not the end of
the day. You'll be fresh, not tired. Plus, coming in early says, "I'm eager to get started" while staying late
says, "I didn't get things done."
4.
Knowing your boss should not reach the point at which you become closely involved with each other's
personal lives. You and your boss aren't equals in your organization. Being too close to your boss might
cause co - workers distrust you.
5.
This is the heart and soul of boss management. Point out his or her strengths to others. Keep him
informed. Never offer new information in a meeting where your boss is present. Give him the facts in
advance and let him do the talking.

A golf tournament (錦標(biāo)賽) isn't held every day and thus, as an organizer, you have to put on a
great show for those who wait for it.
     Preparations before the Tournament
An important thing you need to note down at this stage here is that once you start advertising an event,
the event has actually begun for the audience. At this stage, you need to decide what you are going to call
this event. You should make the name and the advertisement special, so that people will give them a
second look. Depending on your economic situation, you need to decide whether you want to hold this
event for amateurs or for experts. The next thing is to choose a proper place to hold the tournament.
Plan of Action during the Event
While the players are on court, you have to make sure that everything they might need is made
available to them. Since golf is a sport that is played in the open, guests should be given drinks from time
to time, preferably a drink of their choice. There should also be enough dustbins to keep the court clean.
The things the guests need, from extra equipment to drinks, should not be put off for any reason.
Announcement of some contests, lucky draws (抽獎(jiǎng)) and prizes during the event will add to the
entertainment of the tournament.      Another one of the successful golf tournament ideas is an auction
(拍賣) of some particular things during the game. You can get some equipment signed from the players.
     Post Tournament Necessities
Now that the tournament is over, you need to keep a small after-party in the form of a dinner. During
this party, the guests can actually communicate with the players and congratulate those who won.
1. What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A. The event means more to the audience than to the players.
B. Only professional players can attend the golf tournament.
C. The most important thing for the tournament is advertising.
D. It's important for the organizer to draw the audience's attention.
2. The following are done before the tournament EXCEPT________.
A. choosing a playing field
B. organizing an auction
C. naming the tournament
D. advertising the tournament
3. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. The guests' need should be met as soon as possible.
B. All the players and audience can attend lucky draws.
C. The auction can only sell the equipment of the players.
D. Only the players can attend the party after the tournament.
4. Why does the organizer announce the lucky draws and other activities?
A. To have fun himself.
B. To earn more money.
C. To please the audience.
D. To attract more players.
5. The passage is mainly written to ________.
A. introduce what a golf tournament is
B. call on people to join in golf tournaments
C. introduce how to organize a golf tournament
D. share the experience of attending golf tournaments with readers

When you were looking for a reliable, honest auto mechanic, how did you find him? Before you went
into that restaurant you recently tried, how did you know that it served great food?If you are like most
people on the planet, you want to lower your risk of a big ugly surprise so you asked people you trust to
refer to a business they trust. Marketers call this friendtofriend recognition of a business "wordofmouth"
advertising.
When you do a great job for your customer or a bad job, people are going to talk about your business. Unfortunately, because we humans seem to feel negative emotions more intensively than positive ones,
we're more likely to tell more of our friends about bad experiences with a business than positive ones.
Understand this:Customers believe their own experience. You can't make them believe that your company is wonderful when they felt they were treated badly.
So, to get positive wordofmouth going for your business in this servicebased economy, you've got to
do a really outstanding job for everyone, exactly.
And when you do, you build a great reputation. That takes time. But it forms a close link with your
customers in a way that no advertising and no promotional coupon (優(yōu)惠券) ever could.
The good news is that because there are so many different businesses chasing after your customers'
money, people want to know whom they can trust. So people are going to be talking about you. Create
a free sales force for your business-an army of delighted  customers who tell everyone that they know
how good your company is to do business with. That's a great antidote (解毒劑) to defectionitis.
1. What is the main topic of this passage?
A. A good name will bring you money.
B. A person should rely on his friends for business.
C. Advertising can make customers believe it's wonderful.
D. A company can rely on its associates to survive.
2. According to the passage, whether we go to a place or not depends on________.
A. business fame
B. media assistance
C. particular recognition
D. associates'recommendation
3. When you do an outstanding job in service, you will surely________.
A. make more money than you expect
B. have a mutual understanding with your customers
C. build a great reputation immediately
D. earn your fame as well as advertise for your company
4. The underlined word "defectionitis" probably means________.
A. service imperfection

                                                      It Tastes Just Like Chicken
Away from home, eating is more than just a way to keep your stomach full. It is a language all its own, and no words can say, "Glad to meet you … glad to be doing business with you ..." quite like sharing a
meal offered by your host.
Clearly, mealtime is not the time for you to say, "Thanks, but no." Acceptance of the food on your
plate means acceptance of the host, the country, and the company. So, no matter how difficult it may be
to swallow (吞咽), swallow. Or, as one experienced traveler says, "Travel with a cast-iron (鑄鐵的)
stomach and eat everything everywhere."
Often, the food offered represents proudly your host country's eating culture. What would Americans
think of a French person who refused to take a bite of homemade apple pie or sirloin? Our discomfort
comes not so much from the thing itself; it comes from our unfamiliarity (不熟悉) with it. After all, an
oyster has remarkably the same look as a sheep's eye; and a first look at a lobster would remind almost
anybody of a creature from a science fiction movie, not something you dip in butter and eat. By the way,
in Saudi Arabia sheep's eyes are a famous dish and in parts of China it's pig's tails.
Can you refuse such food without being rude? Most experienced business travelers say no, at least
not before taking at least a few bites. It helps, though, to slice (切) any item very thin. This way, you
minimize (最小化) the taste and the reminder of where it came from. Or, "Swallow it quickly," as one
traveler recommends. "I still can't tell you what sheep's eyeballs taste like." As for dealing with taste, the
old line that "it tastes just like chicken" is often thankfully true. Even when the "it" is really rat or snake.
Another useful piece of advice is not knowing what you are eating. What's for dinner? Don't ask.
Avoid glancing into the kitchen or looking at English-language menus. Your host will be pleased that you
are eating the food he offers, and who knows? Maybe it really is chicken in that soup.

A. introduce unfamiliar food

A. the way it looks

A. an American may feel comfortable with apple pie
B. one should refuse strange food after a few bites

understand what people were saying.
"Why did they do this?" Kate wondered aloud." I mean, you can't learn if you can't understand the
teacher."
Nadia's voice was a whisper. "I understand English. I will learn." Nadia's English was perfect.
Kate was perplexed. She couldn't understand why Nadia did not like to speak. Then she realized that
moring to a new country probably wasn't the easiest thing to do. There were hundreds of unfamiliar and
unusual things to learn-all at the same time.
"There're a lot of new things to learn, huh?" said Kate.
Nadia nodded rapidly. In a quiet voice she replied. "Many things people say, I do not understand. I
have been speaking English and Romanian all my life, but I do not know what some children are saying.
For example. yesterday a boy asked if I could help him find the USB port on a thin black box he was
