When the shooting of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was complete, it was much more than a
movie wrap-up (結(jié)束).
Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, told The Sunday Times that he's happy to have the time for
romance now filming is over. Emma Watson, who is Hermione Granger in the movies, said she looked
forward to "finally being free, being my own person"-a change signaled (顯示) by her new haircut.
Daniel Radcliffe, who has been the face of the boy wizard since 2001, said that he "did cry like a little
girl" when the last movie finished.
"It's like the ending of a relationship," he told The Vancouver Sun. "There's a sense of, 'God, what am
I going to do now?'" He said he was eager to see "what life holds for him beyond Hogwarts".
Along with the three actors, Harry Potter fans, now in their late teens, came of age with J.K. Rowling's
characters. For them, the last film isn't just a goodbye to a decade (十年) of magic, but the close of their
childhoods.
"We are the Harry Potter generation," Canadian Andrea Hill, 19, told The Vancouver Sun. "We started
in elementary school, reading about a boy our age who was going through the same things we were going
through. We grew up, so did he."
For Emmy Chahal, an 18-year-old student, the series has been an inspiring journey. "That first book
was what sparked (激發(fā)) my love of literature (文學(xué)). It was the catalyst (催化劑) for everything-really
teaching me to appreciate my friends, and to face difficulties with a sense of courage (勇氣)," she said.
"I have a sense of grief (傷心). The end of the movies is kind of the end of my childhood, too."
Fortunately, to the delight of die-hard fans, there are many things that keep the boy wizard alive. For
example, in June this year, a Harry Potter theme park opened in Florida, US.
Some schools in the US and UK also have Quidditch teams-players ride broomsticks (掃帚). "We're
not waiting anymore to see what happens to Harry next," Hill told The Vancouver Sun. She founded a
Quidditch club at Carleton University in Canada. "We're still engaged (投入) in that magical world."

There were smiling children all the way. Charily they knew at what time the train passed their homes and
they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they
rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on
the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.
I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not
particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked
about the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my Economics.
It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another
city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond
the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came
into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to
join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were
smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was
surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me.
They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a
warm hug (擁抱). I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face
warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
I looked forward to the return journey.

A. adventurous

D. dull
2. What did the author remember most fondly of her train trip?
A. The friendly country people.
B. The mountains along the way.
C. The crowds of people in the streets.

下面文章中有5處(第1-5題)需要添加小標(biāo)題。請從以下選項(A、B、C、D、E和F)中選出符合
各段意思的小標(biāo)題。選項中有一項是多余選項。
A. Leadership
B. Conflict Solving
C. Open Communication
D. Respect to All Team Members
E. Measuring Progress against Goals
F. Common Goals with Challenging Target
Team Building Means More Than Throwing a Few People Together
"Teamworking" is found everywhere within just about every organization. You can't get away from
"teams" that are supposed to be able to create something that is greater than the sum of its parts. Or so
the theory goes.
There are five measures that need to be taken before you can get the most out of a team:
1._______
There must be a clear reason for the team to exist. And all the members should realize the value and
significance of what they are going to do. What they are hoping to achieve should be something achievable
but at the same time tough and inspiring enough to attract the members and keep their motivation alive.
What is more, they should also be well prepared for the possible difficulties they may come across in the
process.
2.______
Team members must be able to express their opinions freely without fear of being criticized, and they
must have the feeling that their suggestions will be taken seriously. This is an important point because the
team may need to resolve some complex or thorny issues. For example, it may discuss a sensitive topic.
Should they keep their conclusion within the team or share it with other employees? This is an issue in itself
that all the members should agree on and frank discussion is required.
3._______
It is easy to think that a junior team member may have less to contribute than more experienced ones.
This is not only demoralizing or discouraging, it also makes no sense-people that have nothing to contribute
should not have been selected for the team in the first place. Since they have become members of your team,
you need to make sure that each of them has an opportunity to add his or her thoughts to discussions.
4.________
Disagreements are natural and, in fact, debate and discussion should be encouraged. A team made up
only of "yes men" can make disastrous decisions that few people honestly agreed with in the first place.
Consequently, there should be rules on how lengthy disagreements should be handled. For example, team
meetings may not be the most appropriate place for a discussion that involves only two people, so "under-
the-table" method may be effective.
5______
Most high-performing teams are well organized. A good organizer should be able to play to individuals'
strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses. It should be someone who can act as a promoter and
a constant reminder of what the team needs to achieve. He must, above all, be skilled in sharing responsibility
and setting tasks to others, coaching them to achieve tasks, and providing constructive feedback on how the
tasks went.
Team building isn't as simple as just throwing a few people together. It requires much more, but motivating
people is most essential. Successful teamworking is not marked by how much progress the team makes toward
its goals, but by how confidently each of its members completes his or her assigned tasks with a sense of
achievement and pride.

(     )2. Olga: How important is an entrepreneur's ambition to his/her company's growth?
(     )3. Scott: How does an entrepreneur make use of his/her advantages?
(     )4. Anna: Why do successful entrepreneurs seem to enjoy their work?
(     )5. David: What attitude should an entrepreneur have toward his/her social responsibilities?
A
Sheri Poe Ryka Inc.
Since I started this company in my kitchen seven years ago. I always dreamt of what it would be some
day. Focusing on that goal helps me get through tough times. To get the kind of success that you want, you
need to dream big. That's the starting point, Every success story begins with big dreams. You need to have
big dreams for yourself, like being somebody rich, famous or fulfilled. You need to have a clear goal of what
you want to achieve.
Also, I think it's really important that the people you're working with are as committed to the same goal
as you are, so you can support each other and keep each other energetic.
B
Anita Ruddick The Body Shop Inc.
In America, we have a shop in Harlem where 50 percent of the profits go into the community development,
and the other 50 percent go toward the funding of a similar shop elsewhere in the United States. The pride
that shop brings to the staff and local people inspired me.
What The Body Shop does successfully is use our facilities in the street and shopping centers to talk about
real human issues like AIDS. recycling, human rights, and community service or to encourage people to speak
out against anything they consider to be unjust. Knowing our products are symbols of social change is really
encouraging.
C
Ben Cohen Ben &Jerry's Homemade Inc.
I'm energized by the people I work with. I'm very relationship-driven, which a think is different from most
entrepreneurs. I'm inspired by doing things that are not normal and that most people think don't fit into the
business world or don't make any sense.
In business, you are judged by the company you keep-from your management team, board of directors,
and strategic partners. Maybe the lady you met in a trade association meeting can help you secure funding, or
the gentleman at a conference can provide you with management advice.
D
Richard Melman Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises
A number of years ago, I was interviewed by someone who was writing a book on enterprises. He asked
me. "What's the opposite of work?" I answered. "Lazy" He started laughing and said, "Believe it or not, a lot of
entrepreneurs say the same thing."
The average person thinks the opposite of work is play, but to an entrepreneur, work is play. I think it all
adds up to having fun. it's fun to create; it's fun to entertain, and it's fun to make people happy with our service.
When it stops being fun. I'll stop doing it.
E
Frank Toskan Make-Up Art Cosmetics (M.A.C)
One of the nicest things anyone ever said to me was, "I hate makeup, but I love M.A.C." That's what moves
me on. Even people who don't wear makeup can appreciate our company, what it stands for, its values, and the
way we do business.
We work from an inverted pyramid, where the customers are always at the top. Our customers inspire me
and keep me going. They and our staff, not money, make me enthusiastic. If I had stayed in this business just
for the money, I would have closed down years ago.
F
Kenneth Cole Kenneth Cole Productions Inc.
You can't be everything to everybody. Each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses. To be effective,
you need to identify your strengths and concentrate on them, you'll become more successful if you are able to
channel your efforts to areas that you do best. In business, for example, if you know you are good at marketing,
then give, I full play. Seek help or assistance in areas that you may be poor at, such as accounting or
bookkeeping. To turn your weakness into strength, consider taking hands-on learning or training.

George Prochnik would like the world to put a sock in it. He makes his case in a new book, Listening
for Meaning in a World of Noise. Here he explains himself (using his indoor voice):
"We've become so accustomed to noise, there's about almost a deep prejudice against the idea that
silence might be beneficial. If you tell someone to be quiet, you sound like an old man. But it's never been
more important to find continuing quiet. Silence focuses us, improves our health, and is a key to lasting
peace and satisfaction."
"We need to excite people about the sounds you start to hear if you merely quiet things down a little.
During a Japanese tea ceremony, the smallest sounds becomes a kind of art-the spoons making a light
ringing sound on a bowl, the edges of a kimono (和服) brushing against the floor."
"Dear people are very attentive (專注的) in almost every aspect of life. If two deaf people are waling
together, using sign language, they constantly watch out for each other and protect each other by paying
steady attention to the other. They are connected yet also fully aware of their surroundings. Even deaf
teenagers! We in the hearing world can learn from them. If we remove the powerful blasts (一陣陣) of
noise, we become aware of an extraordinarily rich world around us-of little soft and the sound of footsteps,
of bird songs and ice cracking (開裂聲). It's astonishing how beautiful things sound when you can really
listen."
1. What does the phrase "to put a sock in it" in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. to be quiet
B. to be colorful
C. to be full of love
D. to be attentive to someone
2. What does Prochnik say about us?
A. We are used to quietness
B. We have to put up with noise
C. We do not think silence to be beneficial
D. We do not believe lasting peace to be available
3. Which of the following is true according to Proehnik?

A. We need more sounds in our lives

                                                         "I Went Skydiving at 84"
As a young girl growing up in the 1930s, I always wanted to fly a plane, but back then it was almost
unheard of for a woman to do that. I got a taste of that dream in 2001 when my husband arranged for
me to ride in a hot air balloon for my birthday. But the experience turned out to be very dull. Around that
time, I told my husband that they were having an essay competition and the topic was experience of a
lifetime that you wanted to have, I decided to write about my dream.
In the essay, I wrote about my desire to skydive, stating George Bush Sr. did it at age 80. Why not
me? I was just 84 and in pretty good health. A year went by and I heard nothing. But then at a community
party in late April 2009, they announced that I was one of the winners. I just couldn't believe it. Inspired
by this, I decided to realize my dream, even though some of my family members and my doctor were
against it.
On June 11, 2009, nearly 40 of my family and friends gathered in the area close to where I would land
while I headed up in the airplane. My instructor, Jay, guided me through the experience. The plane was the
noisiest one I had even been in, but I wasn't frightened-I was really just looking forward to the experience.
When we reached 13,000 feet, Jay instructed me to throw myself out of the plane. When we first hit the
air, the wind was so strong that I could hardly breathe. For a second I thought, "What have I gotten myself
into?" But then everything got calmer. We were in a free fall for about a minute before jay opened the
parachute (降落傘) then we just floated downward for about five minutes. Being up in the clouds and
looking at the view below was unlike anything I have ever felt-much better than the hot air balloon. I was
just enjoying it.
Skydiving was really one of the greatest experiences of my life. I hope other people will look at me and
realize that you don't stop living just because you are 84 years old. If there is something you want to
experience, look into it. If it's something that is possible, make it happen.

When it comes to friends, I desire those who will share my happiness, who possess wings of their own
and who will fly with me. I seek friends whose qualities illuminate (照亮) me and train me up for love. It is
for these people that I reserve the glowing hours, too good not to share.
When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and "too serious" about our studies when it
was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviors. We said little at school,
but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say:"
Let's start with a train whistle today." We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that
grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were
changing into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped.
When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend, He was in despair (失望) and I was in despair. But our
friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great
city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent
things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We gave London to each other.
For almost four years I have had remarkable friend whose imagination illuminates mine. We write long
letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, sometimes in a funny way, in the
other's dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind. In my most
interesting moments, I often think:"Yes, I must tell…."We have never met.
It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind is worth more to me than
the lifetime services of a psychologist (心理學(xué)家), who will only fill up the healing (愈合的) silence necessary
to those darkest moments in which I would rather be my own best friend.
