The porter brings your bags to your room and helpfully explains all you want to know. Then he points to the phone and says:“If there’s anything else you need, just can.”All this time you have been thinking of one thing:“How much should I tip(付小費(fèi))him?”To make your next trip a little easier, here’s guide to tipping across some Asian countries.
Bangkok
In general, the more westernized the place is, the more likely you will be expected to leave a tip. Some top-end restaurants will add a 10% service charge to the bill.If not, waiters will appreciate your tacking on(附加)the 10% yourself. However, if you’re eating at a lower-end restaurant, a tip is not necessary. If you’re staying at one of Bangkok’s many five-star hotels, expect to tip the porter 20 to 50 baht(泰國貨幣單位),depending on how many bags you have.Taxis are now metered in Bangkok.Local custom is to round up(湊整數(shù))the fare to the nearest five baht.
Hong Kong
Tipping is customary in this money-mad metropolis(大都市).Most restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill, but the extra money often ends up in the pocket of the owner. If the service is good, add another 10% to the bill, up to HKMYMl00 in an especially nice restaurant. For HK MYM10 hotel porters should do it at all but the nicest hotels where a new HKMYM20 bill may be more acceptable. When in a taxi, round up to the nearest dollar.
Kuala Lumpur
Tipping in Malaysia is limited to the expensive westernized hotels, which often add a 10% service charge to your meal or hotel room.If you are at a hotel restaurant, expect a 10% service charge.
But at local restaurants, there’s no need to add a tip. At five-star hotels, one or two ringgit(馬來西亞貨幣單位)will satisfy a porter. At lower-end buildings don’t feel you have to tip Like Bangkok, many taxis are now metered so you can just round up to the nearest ringgit.
Seoul
Tipping is not part of Korean culture, although it has become a matter of course in international hotels where a 10% service charge is often added. If you’re at a Korean barbecue joint(燒烤處),there’s no need to add anything extra. But a nice Italian restaurant may require a 10% contribution.
If you’re at a top-end hotel, so expect to pay 500~l,000 won per bag.Taxi drivers don’t accept a tip.Keep the change for yourself.
( )57.Which of the following is NOT the unit of money?.
A.Charge B.Baht C.Won D.Ringgit
( )58.In which of the following cities is it unnecessary to tip the taxi-drivers?
A.Bangkok B.Hongkong C.Kuala Lumpur D.Seoul
( )59.If you stay at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur, how much will you pay the porter at least?
A.10% of service charge B.Two ringgit C.Half a ringgit D.One ringgit
( )60.The writer seems .
A.to tell the readers how to travel
B.to give the readers some advice on how to tip
C.to ask the readers to go on a travel to Asian cities
D.to make the trip more pleasant

Britons stranded(擱淺)at sea or in flooded homes could find a real-life prince riding to their rescue. Prince William announced on Monday that he is to train to be a full-time pilot with the Royal Air Force's Search and Rescue Force (SARF).
William, who is currently a Lieutenant(中尉)in the Army's Household Cavalry Regiment(皇家騎兵團(tuán)), will transfer to the RAF and begin an 18-month training course in January 2009.
If successful, he will become a fully operational Search and Rescue pilot in 2010, flying Sea King helicopters at one of the six SARF units based in Britain.
"The time I spent with the RAF earlier this year made me realize how much I love flying," the prince, who spent two weeks with a SARF team while on work experience in 2005, said in a statement.
"Joining Search and Rescue is a perfect opportunity for me to serve in the Forces operationally, while contributing to a vital part of the country's Emergency Services."
It means he will follow a similar career to that of his uncle, Prince Andrew, who was a Sea King helicopter pilot during the 1982 Falklands war.
The Search and Rescue teams' main duty is to recover RAF personnel but in peacetime they mainly respond to civilian emergencies, dealing with more than 1,000 calls a year.
The units deal with incidents ranging from helping those trapped by sudden major floods to rescuing people lost while out walking on hills.
William, who has spent the last year on secondment(借調(diào))to the various branches of the military to prepare for his future role as head of the armed forces, received his RAF wings (飛行勛章)following a four-month stint(持續(xù)的工作)with the service earlier this year.
However, his time with the RAF was clouded when the Defense Ministry was forced to fend off (擋開) criticism for allowing the prince to fly military helicopters to a bachelor party for his cousin and to the family home of his girlfriend Kate Middleton.
49. Prince William wanted to be a full-time pilot because _______.

C. many Britons were in danger at sea waiting for rescue
D. he had much experience in flying

51. The author’s opinion on William’s joining RAF is _______.
A. enthusiastic B. doubtful C. negative D. pessimistic
52. What is the purpose of the author by mentioning what the prince had done before in the last
paragraph?
A. The author wants to say that Prince William pays much attention to his family and friends
B. The author suggests that the Defense Ministry was criticized when William flew for his
private business
C. William had a hard time when he went against his leaders
D.The author has the worry that Prince William is likely to get the Defense Ministry into
trouble again.
