第二節(jié) 讀寫(xiě)任務(wù)(共1小題,滿分25分)

閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫(xiě)一篇150左右的英語(yǔ)短文。

It is exciting to visit different places. As you travel, you will see beautiful sceneries typical of the region. Besides, you can meet and make friends with people of different colors and races. Today people are so fond of traveling that tourism has become one of the developing industries in most countries.

Recent years have seen a tendency in China that tourism is growing faster. According to a recent survey made by some experts, about 47% urban residents travel regularly, and 28% rural residents also make their tour across the country. The survey also shows that more people are interested in tourism, and will join the army in the future.

Facing this tendency, we can't help exploring some underlying factors that are responsible. In the very first place, with the policy of reform and opening up, Chinese people's living standard has greatly been improved, and therefore, most of them can afford to travel around. What's more, it is believed that people now take a more positive attitude to tourism. In addition, tourism facilities are becoming better and better. For example, transportation develops fast, and many scenic spots are available now.

Though there are still some problems with tourism, I personally believe that tourism should be playing a key role in our life. I also hope that our government will make policies to create a better environment for tourists.

PART THREE  READING COMPREHENSION (30 points)

Directions: There are 3 passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should choose the answer that fits best according to the information given in the passage.

A

One dark and stormy night, an elderly man and his wife entered the hall of a small hotel in Philadelphia, hoping to get room for the night.

The clerk, a friendly man with a beautiful smile, explained that there were three conferences in town. “All of our rooms are taken,” the clerk said, “but I can't send a nice couple like you into the rain at one o’clock in the morning. Would you perhaps be willing to sleep in my room? It’s not a suite(套房), but it will be good enough to make you comfortable for the night.” The couple agreed.

As the elderly man paid the bill the next morning, he told the clerk, “You are the kind of person who should be the boss of the best hotel in the United States. Maybe someday I’ll build one for you.” The clerk looked at them and smiled. The three of them had a good laugh.

Two years passed. The clerk had almost forgotten the incident when he received a letter from the elderly man, asking the clerk to pay him a visit. The elderly man met him in New York, and led him to the corner of the Fifth Avenue and 34th Street. He then pointed to a great new building there, a reddish stone one with watchtowers(塔樓) thrusting up to the sky, and told the clerk that it was the hotel he had just built for him。

That wonderful building was the original Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. And this young clerk whose names was George C. Boldt never foresaw the return of events that would lead him into the manager of one of the world's most attractive hotels.

PART FOUR  WRITING

SECTION A

Directions: Read the following passage. Complete the diagram by using the information from the passage.

Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.

Society is a web of relationships, requiring all parties(群體) to work together to create something good. What makes society work best are effective(有效的) relationships that are based on mutual(相互的) understanding. If you understand what people want and why they want it, you can usually find a way to make progress together.

High-quality relationships make people happy. Some people living in the poorest communities have almost nothing but turn out to be the happiest because they share a life together. If effective relationships are working, happiness is always possible.

Here are some simple tips for building effective relationships.

Listen to and try to understand others’ positions and feelings. Listening in itself can lead to understanding, and if you understand someone else fully, then you know how to work better with him or her.

Openly express your needs and feelings. Sometimes we expect people—particularly those close to us at home or work—to understand what we want and to give us what we need intuitively(憑直覺(jué)地). However, people are so complicated and so different that even when they have lived together for 60 years, they can still surprise each other. So we need to say what we need and to express how we feel.

In order to make our relationships more effective, we should treat ourselves and other people with respect. Respect is one of the most important elements of any good relationship.

Finally, learn to face differences correctly. Learning this takes time and can be uncomfortable. However, if we can try to remove differences in an effective way, we are more likely to build exciting and satisfying relationships with others.

By doing these things you may discover that the happiness you long for is much closer than you thought.
