Money, or the lack of it, changes everything, and that includes how people will be working out in 2010.

In these belt-tightening times  1  , cost-conscious workouts(鍛煉)at home and at the gym topped the list of fitness trends for this year in a survey, followed  2   by shorter, more time-efficient regimens, such as  3   boot camp(強力集中訓練) and circuit training.

"People are looking  4   for ways to accomplish as much as possible with as little  5   time and money as necessary," said Cedric X. Bryant, chief science officer of the American Council on Exercise (ACE), which conducted the online poll of fitness professionals.

"Last year money was on the list but this  6   year the majority of the respondents put  7   it as one of the top," he added.

Bryant said some 600 ACE-certified fitness  8   professionals responded to the annual poll  9  , which the non-profit organization has been conducting for a decade.

Other money-saving measures  10  , such as the shift from personal training sessions to small group training  11   classes and in-home workouts  12   using smaller, more portable equipment, also made the list.

"Personal trainers are seeing they've got to respond to market needs  13  . Working with two to four clients at a  14   time they can charge less  15   but still get their hourly fee," Bryant said.

Boot-camp workouts and circuit training, both of which burn  16   calories while building strength and endurance(持久性), will be among the most popular trends in 2010, as time-constrained(受壓制的) consumers  17   seek shorter, more intense activities.

One bright spot is the rise of exergaming-type systems, like Nintendo's Wii Sports, Wii Fit and the PC-based Dancetown. Bryant says the fitness-based video games are turning up  18   in health clubs and senior centers.

Functional training workouts, which are geared to improving the quality of life and the ability to perform everyday tasks, will remain strong  19  , and the use of computerized tracking and online training and scheduling tools will increase  20   in the coming year.

He wishes the holiday season would end already. His back aches, his red suit feels like a spacesuit, his cheeks have gone tight from smiling for 12 hours — and still the kids keep coming and coming, like ants at a picnic. As Christmas becomes more commercialized (商業(yè)化) across the U. S. and Canada, so must Santas. As the holiday begins earlier each year, so must its spokesmen .

The questions from children these days are harder than ever. Now, with thousands of children expecting a father or mother serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, the questions are as heart-breaking as they are unanswerable. For example, “Can you please bring Daddy home from the war in time for Christmas morning?”

Santas also have a pretty good chance of getting sued (指控). A professional Santa Claus in Canada told a story: A Santa had a girl on his knee, and he commented, “You have nice eyes and nice hair.” The girl later said it was sexual harassment (騷擾). When a Santa feels anxious, he often shows it in the same ways ordinary people do: The Santas were always seen to hang around at the dinner table when the show ended. Many of them just sleep in bed for several days and don’t see other children again.

56.In the first paragraph, “spokesmen” refers to       .

       A.businessmen                    B.political leaders

C.organisers of the activities       D.Santa Clauses

57.The passage implies that the job of Santa Claus is       .

       A.well-paid        B.very hard        C.worth doing    D.dangerous

58.According to the third paragraph, Santas may sometimes be blamed for       .

A.doing something against the law        B.hanging around the dinner table

C.being lazy and sleeping in bed for days        D.not playing their roles as expected

59.What would be the best title for the passage?

A.Christmas: Not a Good Festival for Santas

       B.Is Santa Claus Really Alive?

       C.A Christmas Story

D.What Does Santa Claus Do for Children?

LONDON(Reuters)-Organic fruit, delivered right to the doorstep. That is what Gabriel Gold prefers, and he is willing to pay for it. If this is not possible, the 26-year-old computer technician will spend the extra money at the supermarket to buy organic food.

"Organic produce is always better," Gold said. "The food is free of pesticides(農(nóng)藥), and you are generally supporting family farms instead of large farms. And more often than not it is locally(本地)grown and seasonal, so it is more tasty. "Gold is one of a growing number of shoppers buying into the organic trend, and supermarkets across Britain are counting on more like him as they grow their organic food business. But how many shoppers really know what they are getting, and why are they willing to pay a higher price for organic produce? Market research shows that Gold and others who buy organic food can generally give clear reasons for their preferences-but their knowledge of organic food is far from complete. For example, small amounts of pesticides can be used on organic products. And about three quarters of organic food in Britain is not local but imported(進口)to meet growing demand. "The demand for organic food is increasing by about one third every year, so it is a very fast-growing market," said Sue Flock, a specialist in this line of business.

The Americans believe that anybody can become President of the United States. In a recent Hollywood comedy(喜劇), that is exactly what happens.

Dave Kovic, played by Kevin Kline, is a kind-hearted man who runs a business that finds people jobs. He leads a typical(典型的) American way of life, except for one thing-h(huán)e looks exactly like the President, Bill Mitchell. In fact, the only thing that makes him different from the nation’s leader is that he is very nice!

The president has started using look-alikes during some public appearances. Dave is offered a chance to “serve his country” by becoming one. However, things go wrong. The President becomes very ill and Dave ends up acting as the President forever.

Director Ivan Reitman, who made the popular and successful comedies like Twins, Ghostbusters and Legal Eagles, could have gone for easy laughs by making fun of the American government. The love story that develops between her role and Dave is a real classic(經(jīng)典).

The film is 100% American. However, if you’ve ever felt that anybody could do a better job running the country than the people in power, then you’ll enjoy Dave!
