Munish Bansal has amassed(積累)8,500 digital images of daughter Suman, 12, and her brother Jay, 10, since the day they were born. He has enough pictures to fill 600 albums and shows them on a website named “delightful kids”.

Mr. Bansal, 36, an accountant from Gillingham, Kent: “It started when I took a picture of Suman on the day when she was born. I did the same the following day, and the day after, and the day after that. Before I knew it, she had turned one and I had 365 images. It seemed a shame to stop, so I kept going - and did the same when Jay came along.” Mr. Bansal, who lives with housewife Rita, 39, began the family album on the day Suman was born in 1996. With a digital camera, he takes the picture usually before school or during dinner.

The photographs capture her life from a baby and toddler, through to early school days and into her teens. They include important landmarks like walking, the day she spoke, her first words and the beginning of school. He did the same with her younger brother Jay who was born two years later.

Mr. Bansal admits both Suman and Jay are “quite embarrassed” about the website - and their father. Suman, who turns 13 tomorrow, said: “It's interesting because when I look at the baby photos I don't recognize myself - but I'm not planning on letting Dad do this for ever.” Mr. Bansal has said he will continue until they are old enough to leave home. “As they get older, Sunam and Jay have become quite embarrassed about what I'm doing,” he said. “But I hope that one day both of them will appreciate what I’ve done, and look back on their childhoods with happy memories.”

Learning to save money when you're young is an important lesson. All good lessons and habits begin early, and saving is a skill that everyone needs. Many people—adults included—do not have a good sense of saving for the long run.

I have been lucky to learn this lesson early because I have had a grass-cutting business since I was 10 years old. Of the money I make I spend about 10 percent and save the other 90.

Making sure you save and don't spend too much is a good way to build up wealth. I have put my earnings in a bank. Many teens I know spend all the money they earn so it never has a chance to grow. Young people should realize that their teenage years are a great time to begin saving.

At high school many parents pay for almost everything, so your expenses can be small. If you have a job, you should have fun with some of the money. But you should also save some so that it will grow. Then you can begin planning for your future. When you spend money, you not only lose that money, but also lose the interest you could have earned by saving it.

After high school, college is expensive and then "real" life begins, with expenses such as food and rent. If you can hold onto a good percentage of the money you earn as a teen, going to college and buying a house will be much easier. ________________, the more time the money has to grow. If you are in your thirties without any savings, you will always have to struggle. The earlier you begin saving, the easier it is to create a nest egg.

Later in life it can be hard to start saving because general costs of living are more expensive and you may only have enough to pay your bills. If you want to buy a house and have a family, you need money to start with, which comes from saving.

Many say money cannot make you happy, and this is true. But money can help you to lead a secure life.

Saving early will mean you will have to work for fewer years when you are older. It will also allow you to spend time doing the things that you want to do.

In addition to this, it will mean you can live the way you want to without worrying.

WASHINGTON—It’s a great achievement that inspires notions of robots with consciousness and independent minds.

When people or animals get hurt, they can usually compensate for minor injuries and keep limping along, but for robots, even slight damage can make them stumble and fall. However,a recently made robot has demonstrated a novel ability:it can heal its own damage.

The new robot, which looks like a splay-legged,four-footed starfish can sense injury to itself and adapt. That ability sets the new robot apart from earlier machines.Because the robot can recover from unfamiliar places.“There is a need for planetary robotic rovers to be able to fix things on their own,” says Josh Bongard,a professor in the University of Vermont, who is one of the device’s creators.“Robots on other planets must be able to continue their mission without human help if they are damaged and cannot communicate their problem back to Earth.”

A typical robot functions according to a computer program, but the new robot works differently.First, sensors in its four legs observe the robot’s movements and signals to its built-in computer. From the formation it collects, the robot creates its own programs that allow it to adapt to different situations. For example, when the researchers shortened one of the robot’s legs, the smart machine simply adjusted its way of walking—it used three legs instead of four.

The researchers are looking for other places to put the resilient robot to work. One pellicle spot is the ocean floor. That dark and dangerous undersea terrain might be a good choice for a robot the scientists call the Starfish.“We never officially named the robot, but we usually refer to it as the Starfish, even though a real starfish has five rather than four legs,”says Bongard.“Also,a real starfish is much better than our robot at recovering from injury, because it can actually grow its legs again.”Scientists have created robots that help humans in many ways:by exploring space, fighting fires, and even performing surgery.

1.The newly designed robot distinguishes itself from the former ones because it _________ .

A.can communicate with people on the earth about their problems

B.works according to a certain computer program

C.can find its problems and solve them automatically

D.can explore unfamiliar places

2.An example is given in the fourth paragraph in order to explain that the robot_________.

A.is used to create new programs

B.has typical robot functions

C.has sensors to observe its movements

D.can gather information and adapt to new conditions

3.The underlined word“resilient”in the last paragraph means the robot is_________.

A.creative         B.newly made        C.able to recover        D.informative

4.Which of the following is TURE about the robot “Starfish”?

A.It was spoken highly of by people for its special ability

B.It will stumble and fall if damaged.

C.It can grow its legs again once they are broken.

D.It has started to work on the ocean floor.

5.What might be the best title of the passage?

A.How does the Starfish Robot work          B.Do-It-Yourself Robot Repair

C.Robots Designed to Work on Other Planets   D.New Robot Helping Us in Many Ways

Brockingham is run by people who are more interested in tourists than its residents.By banning all fast-food restaurants and discount stores, they take away all the places kids can afford to shop.

These people forget that when they were young, they could go to the South Street Soda Fountain and get an ice.cream soda for 25 cents.Today you can’t find an ice-cream soda anywhere in Brockingham for less than $2 1 Where can kids go for a snack?

There is not a single restaurant in Brockingham where a family of four can eat dinner for less than $100.Add a 15%tip and sales tax and you have spent nearly $125 to eat a meal you could prepare at home for about $12.Have you noticed that Brockingham families never dine in Brockingham?

Fast.food restaurants are also a good place for school kids to get an after-school job.Fast-food restaurants are the busiest during the early supper hours when students are able to work , whereas the fancy food restaurants cater to late-night diners. Working in one of these establishments requires working shifts that are too late for most students.  The City Council claims that local merchants, rather than national chains, should benefit from the tourist business.I agree that it is important to support local businesses, but I think the fast-food restaurants would encourage more people to shop in Brockingham.

Another thing          is that we must travel 25 miles to the nearest discount store. If I need a tire for my bike,I have a choice of buying one at Surf and Peddle Sport Shop for $15 or driving to Parkersburg Discount Center where I can buy the same kind of tire for $9.Again,I  think the ban on all food chains and discount houses is counterproductive for our city.

76.List three reasons why the writer supports fast-food restaurants.
