Much meaning can be conveyed, clearly, with our eyes,so it is often said that eyes can speak.

Do you have such kind of experience? On a bus you may look at a stranger, but not too long. And if he is sensing that he is being stared at,he may feel uncomfortable.

The same is in daily life.If you are looked at for more than necessary time, you will look at yourself up and down,to see if there is anything wrong with you.If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry toward others’ stare at you that way.Eyes do speak, right?

Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive(好斗的).But things are different when it comes to stare at the opposite sex.If a man glances at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to avert(轉(zhuǎn)移)his gaze, his intentions are obvious:he wishes to attract her attention,to make her understand that he is admiring her.

However, the normal eye contact for two people engaged in conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time,in order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking. As for the listener,he will,to a certain extent, look continuously at the speaker,to tell him that he is attentive.

If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking,as if he tries to dominate(控制)you, you will feel upset.A poor liar usually exposes(暴露)himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes in the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.Quite the contrary.

In fact, continuous eye contact is confined to(局限于)lovers only, who will enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time,to show affection that words cannot express.

Evidently, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and the specific situation.

A.a(chǎn) liar is always a poor thing and so he will be a victim

B.in experienced liars have a false idea and so are often exposed

D.1iars often look at others straight in the eye to show honesty

Rome-Doctors and medical groups around the world last weekend reacted with strong opposition to the news that an Italian specialist is on the brink of cloning the first human baby.

DL Severino Antinod, who is the head of a hospital in Rome, has been referred to in an Arab newspaper as claiming that one of his patients is eight weeks pregnant(懷孕)with a cloned baby.

When humans and nature go head to head, nature often ends up losing.Rivers get polluted.Trees are knocked down.Natural resources are exhausted. That’s what makes the Galapagos Islands so special―it’s one of the few pristine(原始狀態(tài)的)places on Earth that nature can truly call its own.

For people used to having wild animals run at the scent of humans,a visit to the Galapagos is a real eye-opening experience.Over 1,600 km west of Ecuador(厄瓜多爾),the islands are home to a unique variety of animals that have absolutely no fear of people.Visitors call play on the beach with sea lions and giant sea turtles, swim with dolphins and whales, and get close enough to the penguins(企鵝)to count the eggs in their nests.

The islands were declared a national park over 40 years ago,and the number of human visitors is tightly limited to avoid damaging the environment or putting stress on the animals.Tourists have to pay a $100 daily visitors fee,and can’t step off the boat unless accompanied(陪同)by an official guide.

Once on the islands, you have to stay on the trail, but that rarely presents a problem:the animals are so curious about people that they’ll usually come up to say hello.

“It’s a little like being in a zoo,”said one traveler.“But instead of us looking at the animals. The animals are looking at us.”

Aside from the wildlife, one of the islands’ more unusual features is its post office. You can send postcards for free, but the catch is that there’s no postman to collect them.Instead, travelers pick up mail addressed to people who live near them back home, and then hand-deliver the postcards when their trip is finished.
