At the age of 22, Liu Lu is barely old enough to shave and may indeed still have peach fuzz on his face instead of whiskers, but his youth has not prevented him from becoming the youngest professor in China. Last week, Zhongnan University in the central Chinese city of Changsha appointed Liu to a professorship and also awarded him one million yuan in recognition for his solving a complicated math problem called the “Seetapun Enigma”. It’s not unusual for young people such as Liu to do great things. Most great poetry and many great scientific and mathematical discoveries have leaped from the minds of young geniuses. We only have to think of the poetry of Byron, the inventions of Edison and the theoretical breakthroughs of Einstein.

Unlike Liu, however, most geniuses have to wait a long time to receive the recognition and rewards of their achievements. So Liu’s skyrocket to the top has ruffled some feathers in academia and on Weibo. The critics believe that a professorship should only be given after long years spent in the academic trenches writing research papers and teaching in classrooms. In other words, professors should have to pay their dues.

For the most part, though, people have supported Liu’s appointment. They believe that creativity, innovation and individual genius should be encouraged in China. If China is to grow and prosper, it needs young minds like Liu’s.

But that raises another question: Is Liu a good role model? Liu was only a mediocre student in high school and university, and, as yet, does not have a postgraduate degree. Will others see Liu’s success as an excuse to ignore the traditional school system?

When we are young we all think that we are special; budding geniuses just waiting to flower. While it may be true that we are special, not many of us are geniuses. For most of us, the knowledge and discipline that we learn in school will be the basis for our success in later life. We should accept that, but schools should also accept the “specialness” of individual students and do more to encourage students to develop that specialness. After all, as Liu has shown, having a little peach fuzz on your face doesn’t mean you can’t do great things.

67.What does the underlined sentence in Para. 2 probably mean?

A. Liu succeeds overnight and it has inspired many young people.

B. Liu’s success overnight makes some people angry and upset.

C. Liu is as proud as a bird of his appointment.

D. Even birds are frightened since Liu succeeds so abruptly.

68. What’s the purpose of the examples of Byron, Edison and Einstein presented in Para.1?

A. To introduce some famous people around the world.

B. To prove that young minds are also likely to do great things.

C. To prove that Chinese people can make amazing achievements just like foreign people.

D. To convince readers that the solution to “Seetapun Enigma” is as great as Byron’s poetry, Edison’s invention and Einstein’s theoretical breakthroughs.

69. The author may probably agree with the following EXCEPT___________.

A. Liu is a good role model for young people.

B. School should give students more space to develop their specialness.

C. All special people are not geniuses.

D. Liu’s success shouldn’t be an excuse to neglect the traditional school system.

70. What’s the author’s attitude towards Liu’s appointment according to the passage?

A. Critical.       B. doubtful.         C. Ironic.       D. Positive.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin won in the country’s presidential election held on March 4.

“We have won!” Putin claimed with tears in his eyes.” We won thanks to the support from the vast majority of our voters.”

The PM said it was “a pure victory,” which was gained in an “open and honest battle,” and called on all Russians to unite around the interests of the people and the country.

Putin got 63.97 percent of the vote, well ahead of his nearest rival, the Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, who got 17.18 percent. The results were based on a count of the vote from 98.47 percent of polling stations across the country.

Putin’s results were even stronger than predicted by opinion polls, even if they were down slightly on the ratings of over 70 percent that he won in the 2004 presidential elections.

Putin’s opponents refused to recognize the results and said they would stage the biggest protests since Putin rose to power 12 years ago. Protests have been staged in Moscow and other big Russian cities since a disputed parliamentary poll last December.

Despite the opposition, support remains strong for Putin, who is praised by many Russians for rebuilding the country’s image and overseeing an economic boom in his first presidency.

The Russian strongman is now set for an inauguration expected in May to formally regain the Kremlin post. He served two terms as the country’s president from 2000 to 2008, before becoming prime minister under the presidency of Medvedev.

Before this election, Putin had promised an innovation-oriented economy that benefits Russian people and political reforms. He also called for modernization of the country’s military forces.

Economists say a key test of Putin’s return will be how far he is ready to go to reform an economy heavily dependent on energy exports.

“It’s a watershed—Russia faces decline and stagnation unless they really kick-start reforms and push forward an ambitious reform agenda,” said Tim Ash, head of emerging markets research at Royal Bank of Scotland in London.

A. Gennady Zyuganov got the fewest votes in the latest election.

B. Putin has got more votes than expected in this election.

65. It can be inferred according to the passage that ____________________.

A. Russia sells large quantities of oil, gas, coal, etc to other countries

B. Putin used to be the country’s president from 2000 to 2008

C. Medvedev will definitely be the new Prime Minister

D. The current economic situation in Russia is quite hopeful

66. What is the best title of the passage?

Seventeen-year-old Randy Waldron, Jr. was shocked when he applied for his first credit card and was denied. He was even more shocked by the reason: He failed to repay thousands of dollars in debt.

Waldron’s identity had been stolen by his father, who left when Randy was learning to walk. Form 1982 to 1999, Randy Waldron, Sr, used his son’s Social Security number to obtain credit from various merchants and lenders, then racked up tens of thousands of dollars in debts. He declared bankruptcy in his son’s name, which resulted in default judgments against the younger Waldron. It has taken Randy Jr. now a 24-year-old flight attendant, years to untangle the mess.

Waldron isn’t alone. Identity theft is this country’s fastest-growing crime-and, increasingly, ID thieves are targeting children. Their clean credit and absence of criminal histories make them ideal victims.

Linda Foley,co-executive director of the Identity Theft Resource Center in San Diego estimates that at least 400,000 children had their identities stolen in 2005.more than double the number in 2003.Waldron's case is typical: The resource center estimates that two -thirds of child ID thefts are committed by family members.

Some dishonest persons use children’s names and Social Security numbers to ring up massive debts; others use children’s identities in place of their own when caught committing other crimes; still others sell identification information on the black market to illegal immigrants, fellow criminals or even terrorists. The theft brings its victims enormous financial and emotional trauma, in part because the identity abuse often goes undetected for years.

Dealing with child identity theft after it happens is extremely difficult. Laws in many states are insufficient to handle the crime’s complexity, and financial institutions are often less than helpful. Randy Waldron, Jr., has worked tirelessly for eight years to straighten out his credit record, and he continues to deal with the fallout. “It’s been a very long and arduous battle,” he says. “Recovering my identity was really the absolute hardest part. I think a lot of victims assume the problem will go away.”

56. Which of the following is the best title of the passage?

A. How to Avoid Identity Theft    B. Child Identity Theft

C. Recover My Identity          D. Look out for Family Members

57. Why do children easily become the targets of identity theft?

A. Because they cannot read or write at a young age.

B. Because they are too young to protect themselves.

C. Because they have empty credit and criminal records.

D. Because identity theft can’t be found in time.

58. With the help of the child’s identity, the criminals can do the following except that     .

A. straighten out their own credit record

B. substitute for their own identities when caught committing crimes

C. obtain credits from various merchants and lenders

D. sell identification information on the black market

59. It can be inferred from the passage that

A. Identity theft is the fastest-growing crime in the country

B. Children should never trust their family members

C. Financial institutions should be responsible for the identity theft

D. New laws should be made to help the identity theft victims
