After school I went to home for supper. When I got home, I found my mother laying in bed.

She was ill. Unluckily, my father was away from home in business. “What shall I do?” I

thought to me. Since Mother was ill, I must take well care of her. So I decided to try cooking

by myself. I did the cooking with great difficulty but it got burnt at last. I had thought Mother

would never like. To my joy, Mother praised me for the meat I have cooked. She said, “It

tastes delicious. I’m very pleasing with it.” I knew Mother was encouraging us to do more by

myself.

Have you ever felt sick or had a headache during a test? Have you ever been so worried about something that you can’t sleep at night? 71 This worry in your mind can made your body feel bad. You may feel angry, frustrated, scared, or afraid---which can give you a stomachache or a headache.

72 Good or normal stress might happen when you’re called to answer a question in class or when you have to give a speech. This kind of stress that can help you to get things better done. 73

But bad stress can happen if the stressful feelings keep going over a long time. You may not feel well if your parents are fighting, if a family member is sick, if you’re having problems at school, or if you’re going through anything else that makes you upset every day. 74

75 That means making good decisions about how to spend your time. If you’re only dealing with school stuff and have no time to play, you can get stressed. Make sure you keep yourself in mind: Sleep, Exercise , Leisure(休閑),and Food. If you take care of yourself and get enough sleep and food, and if you exercise and leave time for fun stuff, you’ll probably be less stressed out!

A.However, there are two different kinds of stress.

B.Can you tell a kind of stress from another one?

C.The best way to keep stress away is to have a balanced life.

D.That kind of stress isn't going to help you, and it can actually make you sick.

F.If so, then you know what stress is. Stress is what you feel when you are worried or uncomfortable about something.

G.For example, you may do a better job on your test if the stress pushes you to prepare well before the test.

Will It Matter if I Skip Breakfast?

If you have to miss one meal a day (or if you want to do so), which meal will cause you fewest health problems if you don’t eat it? If they have to make a decision of this type, most people (especially dieters or very busy people) will choose to skip breakfast.

However, many experts in the field of health consider breakfast (the meal which “breaks” your “fast” which started the night before) to be most important meal of the day. If we eat a good breakfast, they say, we will have the energy and nutrients we need to begin our working day with vigor and hopefully with good humor. Nevertheless, many people skip breakfast or substitute(代替)a donut and a cup of coffee for a well-balanced meal. What happens if we ignore the importance of breakfast?

One recent study carried out in the United Sates tested a large number of people. Participants (people who take part in something) included both males and females who ranged in age from 12 to 83. During the experiment , these people were given a variety of breakfast , and sometimes, they had to skip breakfast completely. Special tests , including blood tests and endurance (忍耐力) tests, were set up to analyze how well the participants’ bodies functioned when they had eaten a certain kind of breakfast.

The results showed that if he or she eats a proper breakfast, he or she will work more efficiently and more productively than if he or she skips breakfast or eats a very poor breakfast. This fact appears to be especially true if a person’s work involves mental activity. The study showed that if school children eat fruit, eggs, bread, and milk before going to school, they will learn more quickly and will be able to concentrate on their lessons for a longer period of time than if their breakfast diet is improper.

The study also showed that, contrary to what many people believe, if you skip breakfast, you will not lose weight. This is because people become so hungry if they skip breakfast that they eat too much for lunch and end up gaining weight instead of losing. So remember, if you are on a diet, skipping breakfast will not help you. You will probably lose more weight if you reduce your other meals.

68. In the word “breakfast” fast probably means _____.

A.“moving quickly”                                    B.“going without food”

C.“unlikely to go fast”                                 D.“fast food”

A. that one must miss one meal a day

B. that most people should skip breakfast

C. that to skip one meal a day is no good for one’s health

D. that breakfast is most important in a working day

70. According to the passage those participants in the experiment _____________________.

A. were all adults                                          B. were males of different ages
