I just come back from Britain last week. I was

luckily enough to be one of the students from many

different country to visit the UK from Feb.16 to 28.

We paid a visit to a good many of places, like London,

Oxford or the Lake District. I learned much about British

culture and history in London, where was my favorite.

I also liked Oxford, in which I saw much more old buildings.

The Lake District was beautiful, but it was pity that it

rained heavily when I was there. The most excited thing

for me in Britain was that I made a lot of friends there.

One summer day as I was heading to the teaching building I heard someone call my name. I turned around and I saw Philip ,a counselor(顧問(wèn)) at our admissions office(招生辦公室), standing with another young man, Philip introduced me to him, Stephen, and reminded me that Stephen would be taking one of my classes.

Stephen looked at me. With a somewhat painful expression, he asked if my class was going to be hard and if he would be able to pass. I introduced all the things that he would be expected to learn. As we talked, I saw Stephen’s eyes getting big with fear.

I told him to do all of his assignments, and to hand them in on time. Rather than being overwhelmed(壓倒) by all of the work, I told him the most successful students made a master calendar of all the assignments so they could plan their workload.

As the fall semester went on, I learned more of Stephen’s story. It had taken him longer to finish the assignments than most young people. Family members , including his mother ,kept reminding him that he was a failure. But he kept at it and didn’t take them to heart. He told me that before coming to our college, no one believed he could manage it.

Stephen didn’t become an A student. Still, he managed to pass all of his courses by being in class every day, turning in all of his assignments on time and breaking down his study into bite-sized parts. By passing course after course he began to gain a measure of self-esteem.

On his graduation day, he walked up to me, and said “Thank you.”

67. According to Stephen’s questions to the author, we know that Stephen_________.

A.      wasn’t very confident about himself.

B.      didn’t want to attend the author’s class.

C.      had never been an A student.

D.     couldn’t pass the author’s exam.

68. Compared with other students, Stephen____________.

A.      arranged his workload better.

B.      failed fewer times than them.

C.      spent more time on study.

D.     handed his work earlier.

69. According to the passage, the author__________.

A.      wouldn’t have met Stephen without the introduction of Philip

B.      told Stephen how to deal with his study.

C.      helped Stephen to get an A in his class.

D.     didn’t believe that Stephen could study in college

70. What lesson can we learn from the passage?

A.      A good beginning is a half done.

B.      One bite at a time

C.      Haste(n.急速) makes waste

D.     Look before you leap(v. 跳).

Recently, I took part in the first strategic planning meeting at school. I didn’t know what strategic planning meant when I was invited. So I set about trying to find out what it was. Later, I learnt it meant setting short and long term goals(目標(biāo)).

The meeting took place in Ms Gallup’s room on Tuesday after school. I really didn’t know what to expect. I was very nervous ,but I felt very lucky to have been included. I really wanted to do the best I could.

The desks in the room were laid out into two circles so that the upper school and lower school could be divided. There were fifteen students in the room. We were directed to discuss how to advance the school, what we’d like to be taught, and what we thought could be improved upon. I felt this was a very important responsibility(責(zé)任) as I was representing the fourth grade. So I tried to do the best I could.

There were a lot of suggestions on how to improve our school. One student felt that the uniform sweater policy was really important and another student felt that building a paintable field would help improve the school greatly. I suggested that we should have Chinese classes because China is the most highly populated place on Earth with a growing industrial power. We should learn how to communicate with the Chinese .

We discussed a lot and sometimes the discussion became heated, but they were interesting. I think it is amazing that the teacher asked the students about their opinions and gave us a voice. It is exciting if they adopt(采納)any of our suggestions.

63. What dose the strategic planning mean?

A.      It means inviting students to meetings.

B.      It means setting short and long term goals.

C.      It means helping students in their spare time.

D.     It means providing students with more activities.

64. The underline word “advance ” in Paragraph 3 means”____________”

A.      improve     B. change        C. explain           D. show

65. The writer suggests that the school should__________.

A.      have Chinese classes to help students learn Chinese.

B.      ask students to communicate in Chinese.

C.      carry out the uniform sweater policy.

D.     build a paintable field.

66. What dose the writer think of the discussions?

A.      They were useless

B.      They were too heated

C.      They were surprising

D.     They were interesting
