Slow parenting means parenting children in the contact of nature without any interference of materialistic influence. We can also term it as “selfraising”. In slow parenting children are allowed to do what they think proper and parents just keep a watch over the child. Curiosity of the child leads to exploring and discovering things. Parents provide little help only when it's too necessary, otherwise keep themselves away from the child and just have a look on him or her. This brings about a feeling of selfdependency and they are encouraged to solve their problems.

This is a natural way of learning. When a child is left to learn in a natural environment, the child's natural development takes place. Influence of any materialistic way doesn't let the mind develop naturally. Watching TV, playing video games or joining classes of dance, swimming or any other sports will not let the mind develop naturally.

Here creativity of their mind is developed. They explore ideas. The logic behind this is that the kids of animals learn by nature, so can our kids. So let our children play in the garden, to watch flowers, plants, birds, butterflies and other gifts of nature. In the classes of dance, swimming etc., their creativity is influenced and their natural creativity is suppressed(抑制). In these classes they are overburdened and can't enhance their creativity. So let them play in the open air or garden without any burden instead of joining classes.

Generally parents give toys to their children and explain how to operate them. But those parents who believe in slow parenting give toys and observe how the children are managing them. Their skill to learn and understand comes out. Maybe the process is slow, but it will be their exploration, which will make them selfdependent, and selfcapable to learn.

A. children should join some classes

B. slow parenting should be done in a logical way

A. Arousing children's curiosity.

Andy is the most unreasonable, pigheaded life form in the world, and he makes me so angry I could scream! Of course, I love him like a brother. I have to because he is my brother. More than that, he is my twin! That’s right. Andy and Amy(that’s me) have the same curly(卷曲的) hair and dark eyes and equally stubborn character. Yet, though we may look alike, on most issues we usually take completely opposite positions. If I say day, you can count on Andy to say night.

Just this week, the hot topic in school was all about the PTA’S proposal(提議) to adopt a school dress principle. Every student would be required to wear a uniform. Uniforms! Can you imagine? Oh, they would be uniforms in color. The dress style would be sort of loose and free.

I think a dress principle is a good idea. The reason is simple. School is tough enough without worrying about looking cool every single day. The fact is, the less I have to decide first thing in the morning, the better. I also wouldn’t mind not having to see guys wearing oversized jeans and shirts. And I certainly would welcome not seeing kids showing off designer clothes.

Andy is surprised at my opinion. He says he can’t believe that I would be willing to give up my all-American teenage birthright by dressing like — well, like a typical teenager. Last night, he even dragged out Mom and Dad’s high school photo albums. What a couple of peace-loving hippies(嬉皮士) they were!

The vote for or against uniforms took place later that day. The results of the vote and the headmaster’s decision will be announced next week. I wonder what it will be. I know how I voted, and I’m pretty sure I know how Andy voted.

How would you vote—for or against?

68.  The story is about _______.

A. a conflict of opinions between boys and girls

B. a historical event and is told in the third person

C. a personal experience and is told in the first person

D. a school policy decision that will affect parents and students

69. Amy’s position on school uniforms is most likely based on _______.

A. not liking anything her brother likes

B. her preference for designer-labeled clothes

C. an aggressive reaction to what she has been told by people in authority(權(quán)威)

D. logical conclusions drawn form her own observation and personal experience

70. Which of the following is the best statement of Andy’s position?

A. School clothing should reflect parents’ values.

B. How one dresses should be an expression of one’s individuality.

C. Teenagers should never follow the latest fashions in dress.

D. Wearing school uniforms means one less decision every morning.

71.  What is the best title for the text?

A. A School Dress Principle.                B. My Stubborn Twin Brother

C. Endless Fights with My Brother           D. For or Against?--That Is the Question

London has become a cycle friendly zone after the launch of a new bike hire scheme. It has been designed to encourage more people to cycle in and around central London.

So how does it work? First you have to sign up to the scheme to be sent a key. The key will unlock one of the bikes, which are kept at docking(?) stations in and around central London. You have to pay an access fee for the key and then you pay as you go, for the length of time you use the bike.

Transport for London, which runs the scheme, are hoping to have 6,000 bikes and 400 docking stations in place by the end of the year. The new hire system is hoping to ease congestion(擁塞) in London and is expected to generate up to 40,000 extra cycle trips a day into the city centre. London Mayor Boris Johnston launched the scheme and said London had been “filled with thousands of gleaming machines that will transform the look and feel of our streets and become as common place on our roads as black cabs and red buses”.

However, there have been a few problems since the scheme was launched last Friday. On the first day some people found they couldn’t dock their bike properly and their usage of the bike had not registered. Transport for London did admit they had been expecting a few “teething problems” and have said they wouldn’t charge for the first day as a “gesture of goodwill”. Some other people have criticized the lack of docking stations and locks for the bikes as well as the price it costs to hire the bicycles.

Despite the comments, the green-thinking London Mayor still seems very positive about things, saying, “My campaign for the capital to become the greatest big cycling city in the world has taken a gigantic(巨大的) pedal-powered push forwards.”
