Sometimes people call each other “scared-cat”, but have you ever thought about this expression? When a cat is frightened, its heart starts beating faster, its muscles (肌肉) get tense, and there are changes in the chemicals in its blood-stream.
Although the cat doesn’t 36  this, its body is getting ready for action. If the danger continues, this animal will do one of the two things. It will 37 itself, or it will run away as fast as it can.
38 , when people are excited, angry, scared, or aroused by other emotions, our bodies also go through many 39  changes. Our hearts beat faster, and our muscles get tense. All of these changes make us more alert and ready to react. We, too, get ready to defend ourselves 40  run.
Human beings, 41  , have a problem that animals never face. If we give way to our feelings and let them 42  , we can get into trouble. Have you ever said something in anger, or hit somebody and regretted it later? Have you ever shouted at a teacher, told someone you were lonely, or said you were in love, and then 43  later you had kept your mouth shut? It isn’t always 44  to express your feelings freely.
Does this mean that it’s smarter always to 45  our feelings? No! If you 46  feelings of anger, sadness, and bitterness hidden away or bottled up inside, your body stays47  . Physical illnesses can develop. It can actually be48  for your health.
Feelings that you keep all bottled up inside, don’t just 49  . It’s like you bought some bananas and stuck them in a cupboard. You might not be able to see them, but 50  you’d smell them. And if you opened the cupboard, you’d  51  little fruit flies hovering (盤旋) all over them. They’d be rotten.
You can try to treat emotions 52  they were bananas in the cupboard. You can 53  they don’t exist, but they’ll still be 54  . And at last you’ll have to 55  them, just like those bananas.

There is a small shop about 200 meters from where I live that sells groceries, meat and other basic necessities. About 10 yearsa ago, there was a beggar who would go into the shop every day and ask the owner for a   21 . The owner,  22  he would love to help, simply didn’t have any jobs availabe, so he kept   23  the man’s office.
This situation continued   24  for a few months, until the owner   25  to give the homeless man a job which   26  sweeping outside the shop. Every single day form 5 a.m, the homeless man was there doing the very   27  he could for the   28 , making it the community’s favourite, even though it did earn him pennies.  29 , the owner saw how good a job the man was doing and gave him a job working   30  a cashier(收銀員). He was watched closely to make sure that he didn’t   31  any of the money received from the sales. He was still homeless, after all. The homeless man did a/an   32  job as a cashier for over 2 years, and did such a good job that he was promoted to   33  the finances for the whole shop.
To my   34 , this was the arrangements up until 2 years ago, when the owner   35 . In his will, he only had one   36 , to give the whole shop to the now stable, “homeless” man. Now, I could walk into that shop and see him working as hard as   37 , with his own business that is still   38  and active 10 years after getting his job as a sweeper.
From this story, we can probably get the inspiration: work hard and give everything your best effort, even if it isn’t your   39  situation, it very well may turn out to   40  some day in the future.

The human nose is an underestimated tool. Humans are often thought to be  1___ smellers compared with animals, but this is largely because, unlike animals, we stand upright. This means that our noses are  2 to detecting those smells which float through the air,  3  the majority of smells which stick to surfaces. In fact though, we are extremely sensitive to smells, even if we do not generally realize it. Our noses are capable of  4 human smells even when these are  5  to far below one part in one million.
6    , some people find that they can smell one type of flower but not another, while others are sensitive to the smells of both flowers. This may be because some people do not have the genes necessary to generate  7    smell receptors in the nose. These receptors are the cells which sense smells and send  8   to the brain. However, it has been found that even people insensitive to a certain smell at first can suddenly become sensitive to it when  9    to it often enough.
The  10  for insensitivity to smell seems to be that brain finds it  11   to keep all smell receptors working all the time but can  12  new receptors if necessary. This may also explain why we are not usually sensitive to our own smells we simply do not need to be. We are not  13    of the usual smell of our own house but we  14    new smells when we visit someone else's. The brain finds it best to keep smell receptors _ 15   for unfamiliar and emergency signals such as the smell of smoke, which might indicate the danger of fire.
