Did you have a favorite plastic toy when you were a child? Did it break? Did your parents throw it away? Well, I know where it is. It’s floating(漂浮)in the Pacific Ocean. Well, let me explain how it 89 (get) there.
Many countries put their garbage in the Pacific. Most of the garbage sinks. But plastic floats and  90 (move). The North Pacific Gyre(環(huán)流) pulls things towards the middle. So, all the plastic ends up in the same place. One scientist says the area looks just like “plastic soup”.
This “plastic soup”  91  (discover) about ten years ago. Since that time the amount of plastic in his area  92 (increase) a lot. And this plastic will not just go away, it takes 400 years for plastic to degrade(分解). And, even worse, fish and sea birds are eating the plastic. They think it looks like food. The plastic doesn’t kill them directly, but the fish (who are not smart!) think they are full. So, they stop   93 (eat) and die of hunger. Dolphins and whales will also eat plastic and die.
Governments are starting to work together to clean up this area, but it will take many years. That’s why we should always try  94 (recycle) plastic... even our old toys.

Height is just one of the thousands of features (特征) that your genes (基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then maybe you will be tall, too, but if you have questions about how tall you’re going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it out.

But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential (潛力). Getting enough sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the right height.

No doubt you’re wondering how fast you should grow. There’s no perfect or right answer. Kids grow about 2 inches (5 centimetres) a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty (when your body starts changing and becoming more grown up).

Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the years. Two centimetres here and 2 inches there are not nearly as important as the height you’re at now, how you’ve been growing up to this point, and what other changes your body may be going through.

Don’t be scared if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a very quick growth during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later – between 7 and 13 for girls, 9 and 15 for boys.

You’ll usually begin to notice that you’re growing faster about a year after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.

If the eyes are the windows of the soul, then the body is the mirror of our feelings. If we are feeling great, we may give our body signals(信號). If we look at someone else’s body, we can often tell how they are feeling by their body signals. So reading body language signals is a great tool in daily communication.
In case(假使) you don’t think that learning how to read and use body language is important, here are some numbers for you. 7% of the information we receive is from what people actually say, and 38% of the information we receive is from the tone(語氣) and the speed of their voice; while 55% of the information we receive is from their body language.
These non-verbal(非口頭的) signals will help you a lot, but you still need to focus on what people are saying. If you focus too much on their body language signals, you and the person may feel uncomfortable. It is useful to be able to read people’s body language, but it is useful to learn how to send the right signals and avoid the wrong signals too. Body language may be given several interpretations.
