On March 15, many people in the UK wore a plastic red nose. It wasn’t just for fun. They were also raising money to fight poverty (貧窮) in the UK and Africa.

This day is called Red Nose Day. It is a huge charity event in the UK every other year. On this day, people do something funny for money. Besides Red Nose Day, there are many other creative ways to help people in need around the world.

For example, the Irish singer Bob Geldof and Scottish musician Midge Ure organized the Live 8 concerts in 2005. The theme was poverty in Africa. There were 10concerts in different cities at the same time. Over 1,000 musicians performed to ask people to give their names if they donate money, which they made into a “Live 8 list”.
