很久以前，蝸牛長著一對翅膀，四只腳，一對觸角，在空中自由地飛舞著。

在一次重大的飛行比賽中，蝸牛遙遙領(lǐng)先，甩下了所有對手：蜜蜂、蝴蝶……奪得了冠軍。于是，獎(jiǎng)杯便授給了蝸牛。

蝸牛得了獎(jiǎng)杯，得意洋洋地飛舞著，叫喊著。這以后，它就把獎(jiǎng)杯時(shí)刻帶在身邊，生怕別人不知道它是飛行冠軍�？墒沁@獎(jiǎng)杯很大很重，蝸牛背上它，就只能在地上爬行了。晚上，蝸牛就睡在獎(jiǎng)杯里，生怕被別人偷去。

好心的朋友見蝸牛背著沉重的獎(jiǎng)杯，艱難地爬行著，便勸它把獎(jiǎng)杯放下來。蝸牛卻把別人的好心當(dāng)成惡意。從此以后，再也沒有人勸它了。

天長日久，蝸牛和獎(jiǎng)杯連在一起了。它再也不能飛行了，只能背著沉重的獎(jiǎng)杯，在地上慢慢地爬行。由于它睡覺時(shí)頭縮在獎(jiǎng)杯里，現(xiàn)在只能勉強(qiáng)地從獎(jiǎng)杯里伸出長著一對觸角的頭。
