【題目】 English teenagers will take cooking lessons in schools. The idea is to solve the problem that many people are overweight. Also, it worries people that basic cooking and food preparation skills are being lost because parents use too much fast food.

Cooking was once regarded as an important part of education in England-even if it was mainly for girls. In recent years cooking has become less important in schools. But the rising level of obesity (肥胖) has led to a rethink about the food that children are given and the skills they should be taught.

"What we want is to teach young people how to do basic and simple meals, which they can use at home and in their life," said Ed Balls, an education expert. The new lessons will start in September, but some schools without kitchens will be given time to prepare. Also, there may be a shortage of teachers with right skills, since schools teach food technology rather than practical cooking. Besides, the lessons for handson cooking will only be one hour a week for one term. But the well-known cookery writer, Pru Leith, believes it will be worth it. "If we'd done this thirty years ago, we might not lack knowledge about food. Every child should know how to cook, not just that it'll be healthy. But because it's a life skill which is a real pleasure."

The interest in cooking is an effort to reduce the obesity rate, which is almost the highest in Europe. According to the government, half of British people will be obese in 25 years if we don't take measures to prevent it.

【題目】 Do you know what makes lightning(閃電)? Why does lightning strike(擊打)?

Lightning strikes happen when ice and water in clouds rub(摩擦) together, and cause atmospheric(大氣層的) changes. When this happens, it creates a static charge(靜電). Lightning can strike inside the cloud, between two clouds or between a cloud and Earth. It's the last kind of strike that is the most dangerous for humans.

Lightning can be very dangerous. Every year, lightning kills people because it can start big fires or because it reaches a temperature of 28,000. About 1000 people are hit by lightning every year in the United States, and about 100 of them die as a result.

Lightning makes people shocked, and it happens all over the world! Scientists think that there are more than three million lightning strikes every day in the world—that's thirty strikes every second. An American man, Roy Sullivan, who worked in a park, survived from the most lightning strikes. Between 1942 and 1983, he was hit seven times! And he keeps the highest world record.

【題目】 Chinese buyers used to prize foreign brands, thinking that products made by American or European companies are of higher quality(質(zhì)量) than Chinese ones. Increasingly, that's no longer the case.

Chinese people born before 1985 generally think that foreign brands are better than Chinese ones, billionaire William Li told Business Insider during a recent interview on CCTV 9. But_for_those_who_were_born_after_1985,_it_is_a_different_picture.

“When I first went to the United Kingdom in 1997, I thought that the difference between China and Europe was quite big,” Li said. “But for those born in the 1990s, when they visit Europe or the US, they do not think there is a big difference.”

The change in thinking among Chinese buyers is showing up in many markets in China where western companies used to control. A study by Credit Suisse published in March found that young Chinese buyers are increasingly showing a “home brand bias”.

More than 90% of young Chinese buyers would prefer to buy home appliance brands, according to the study. Meanwhile, home companies producing food, drinks, or personal care products increased their share of the market by 3.3% over the last ten years to nearly 70%.

“Chinese buyers, especially the younger ones, don't just believe that foreign brands are better. Right now, Chinese buyers think China is good and ‘Made in China' is not bad at all,” Charlie Chen, head of China buyer research at Credit Suisse, told South China Morning Post in March.

The Chinese smartphone market is controlled by home companies——Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Apple is the only foreign brand in the top five, but it has lost large ground to the home brands in recent years. Its market share is believed to be down to 37% from 2015 high of 54%.
