1Tu Youyou has devoted herself to ________ (work) on medical research.

2It's raining heavily outside. We have no choice but ________ (play) chess at home.

3Why not ________ (go)over what you have learnt?

4Not only Jim but also his brothers ________ (punish ) because of being late last Monday.

5Not only Jim but also Linda ______ (be) to France twice.

1 working

2 to play

3 go

4 were punished

5 has been

根據(jù)題干可知本題考查固定短語(yǔ)devote…to doing“獻(xiàn)身于/致力于做某事”,其中to是介詞,故后面的動(dòng)詞work應(yīng)使用ing形式,故答案為working。

分析題干可知本題考查have no choice but… 在含介詞but(除意外的句型中,but前有do,則but后的不定式不能帶to;相反,but前若沒(méi)有do,but后的不定式必定帶to。

3句意為什么不重溫一下你所學(xué)的內(nèi)容呢本題考查固定句式Why not do sth.“為什么不做某事”,go over為固定短語(yǔ)“重溫”,根據(jù)句型要求,故答案應(yīng)填go。

句中not only…but also…意為“不僅而且”,使用時(shí)要注意就近原則,即謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞的單復(fù)數(shù)要與靠近謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞的名詞或代詞的數(shù)保持一致本句中his brothers距離punish較近,故用使用復(fù)數(shù)的be動(dòng)詞were,故答案為were punished.

分析題干可知本句為現(xiàn)在完成時(shí)態(tài)且應(yīng)使用固定短語(yǔ)have/has been to“去過(guò)某地”。句中not only…but also…

Australia, also known as“the Land Down Under”, is a country, an island and a continent(大陸). It's the world's smallest continent and the sixth largest country. But only about 24 million people live there. The first people there were the Aborigines. In the late 18th century the British arrived. Today the British influence onAustraliais still very strong. For example, the national language is English and drivers drive on the left side of the road.

Australiawas cut off from the other continents a long time ago, so a lot ofAustralia's animals, like the koala and the kangaroo aren't found anywhere else in the world.Australiaalso has some of the most dangerous animals in the world. There are poisonous(有毒的) snakes and spiders. In the north there are huge saltwater crocodiles, and in the sea, around the coast, there are sharks and poisonous jellyfish.

The largest city inAustraliaisSydneywith its famous Opera House andHarbourBridge. The 2000 Summer Olympics were held inSydney. But Sydney isn't the capital of Australia. The capital isCanberra.

Australiais a huge country, but most Australians live in the south-east corner between Sydney and Melbourne. This is because most of the land is very dry. Australians call this dry area the outback. There are some huge farms there with millions of sheep. The children who live on these farms can't go to school, because the nearest town is too far away. They study at home with the School of the Air. They used to talk to their teachers by the radio and, nowadays, on the Internet. There is also a “flying doctor” service. The doctor comes to the outback by plane.

Starting a book club is easy—all you need is to love reading. Here’s how to get yours off to a flying start.

When you set up your book club, the first thing is to get members for your club. They could be friends, family, or those you know through different kinds of activities, but they should all love to read. A small group of seven to ten people is usually an ideal size for a book club. Too many make discussions difficult.

Once you have a group, agree on how often you want to meet—usually clubs meet monthly. Pick a date and stick with it. That way, members can easily plan for it. Send out emails a week before the meeting to give people a written reminder. Set meeting time length. An hour is a good start. Two hours usually does the trick.

Then, you need a good place. Libraries, parks and restaurants—all make good meeting places. For many clubs, homes are the best place as you don’t have to get dressed up, and noisy public places can make talking hard. If members bring a plate of food or a bottle, it can help start conversation.

Please don’t forget the most important thing— the book! Think about the books your club will enjoy. Fiction? Non-fiction? Your club can choose books in different ways. You can take turns to recommend books. Let everyone vote upon what book to read. Anyway, make sure to keep it light and fun.

After all this has been decided, your book club is ready. Now, it’s time to hold the first meeting. Enjoy your reading.
