【題目】 Something unexpected happened in the summer of my eleventh year. The home I had grown up in burned to the ground in the middle of the night. Thankfully, my mom, dad, grandma, brothers and I escaped (幸免于難) along with our dogs. Yet, we had nothing but the night clothes we were sleeping in. I spent the rest of that night with a friend of our family. I tried unsuccessfully to sleep in a bed in his house. I was too scared.
The next day my mom brought me a few T-shirts and pairs of jeans that another friend gave to her. One pair of them was too short and the other pair too long, but I didn't care. At least I had some clothes again. My dad returned to our broken home to see what he could find. The only thing he could save was my mom's rings.
To spend the summer my dad rented (租借) us a big house on the same road as our old house had been. As we moved in, our friends and our community continued to donate ( 捐 贈 ) all they could to help us get back on our feet. There were more clothes, furniture (家具), food, money, and even some books for me to read. Love was around us.
Looking back now I am thankful for all we went through that summer because it taught me so much about life, love and people. It showed me that when you have nothing left but love, for the first time you see that love is enough.

【題目】 It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don’t. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But this isn’t accepted by all people.
Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don’t need to spend so much time in school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and mathematics need not be taught in detail(詳細地), either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.
Education is well-rounded and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all take an interest in the world.
I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.

【4】It is expected that educated people will be able to ________.

C.develop their abilities to make playsD.learn subjects like language and math

【題目】 Most of the time, we know what weather is heading our way— thanks to meteorologists (氣象學(xué)家). 【1】 Will it be sunny or rainy, hot or cold? And every day, meteorologists work hard to predict what the weather will be like.
For some, an interest in weather starts early. It did for Samantha Gibbons, a 10-year-old girl from the USA.【2】. Every week, Samantha studies the science behind weather through the Internet. In January, she was the youngest kid to attend the 2015 American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting. During the Q&A discussion at the event, she asked the experts how a halo ( a ring of light around a moon or sun ) appears.【3】 “ I was very excited to take part in the meeting ! It was like I was meant to be there,” said Samantha.
Not only does Samantha study the numbers behind weather, but she also practices speaking on air.【4】 “ I love being on TV.” she said.
On September 3, 2014, Samantha made her first TV show on NBC Channel 12 in Phoenix, USA. Before her appearance, she woke up at 4 a.m. to arrive at the station by 5:30 a.m., a typical morning for many meteorologists. “To prepare, I practiced in front of the mirror,” said Samantha. “I learned I needed a lot of practice on camera!”【5】 What’s her advice for other kids interested in becoming meteorologists? “Ask lots of questions,” said Samantha. “Always believe in what you’re doing and keep making your dream come true.”

【題目】Courtesy in English
Courtesy(禮貌) is an art form that shows our moral character. China's history is one of a civilization(文明) with a highly developed sense of etiquette(禮儀); therefore, we should speak English as politely as possible when we go abroad.
【1】Being polite when you ask for something is very important. Beginning your request with "May I...?""Could I...?" is considered polite. For example, "May I have a latte". It is also politer to say “I’ll have...” or “I’d like...” instead of “I want...”. Because it will be considered less direct.
【2】We should say “Excuse me” or “Do you mind if I ask you something?” We should not ask our questions directly. Instead, for example, we should say "Could you tell me where the restrooms are?"
【3】Local people in other communities sometimes speak really fast, so it can be hard for us to catch all the words. In such a situation, we can say "Pardon me?" to ask them to repeat what they said. In my opinion, saying "Can you please repeat that? I didn't follow" is the politest way.
【4】It is also important to know how to refuse someone's invitation. If we really can't make it, we can first say "I'd like to." and then say "but l have to work late" for example. Or "I’m afraid I can't" or even "That sounds great, but ...".
【5】We can use sentences like "I see what you're saying, but I think..."or "You could be right, but don't forget that..."or even "Yes, that's true, but I'm not sure that...".These are great ways to express disagreement politely by being less direct.
A.Refusing an invitation.
B."Please" and "thank you" go along way when we speak to each other.
C.Asking for help.
D.Ordering meals.
E.Expressing disagreement.
F.Can't catch what's been said?

【題目】 Have you ever stayed in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often provide guests with things like disposable(一次性的) toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and slippers.
Many guests like the idea because they don't have to bring their own. But if you travel to Beijing, remember to bring these things of your own. That's because some hotels in Beijing have no longer provided guests with these disposables (一次性用品). Many disposable things are made of plastic. People throw them away after only using them once. It's a waste of natural resources (資源) and is very bad for the environment.
In Beijing, people throw away about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 1,320 tons of lunch bowls every year!
Plastic can take 100 to 400 years to break down. So the less plastic we throw away, the better environment we will have.
So, wherever you travel, bring your own things and use them again and again. Back at home and school, you can also do something to make our world a better place. Try to do these things in your daily life:
Use cloth shopping bags, not plastic ones.
After using a plastic bag, wash it out and let it dry. Then use it over and over again.
Do not use paper cups.
At your school canteen (餐廳), use your own bowls and chopsticks instead of disposable ones.
【1】Many guests like to use disposable things because they are very________.
A.cheapB.expensiveC.renewableD.convenient
【2】Some Beijing hotels have no longer provided guests with the followings free EXCEPT ________.

【3】The underlined phrase"break down "means________.
A.破裂B.分解C.崩潰D.故障
【4】How can we deal with a used plastic bowl or bag?
A.Wash it out and let it dry for reusingB.Throw it away at once
C.Burn itD.Give it to your neighbors.
【5】What can we learn from this passage?
A.Many disposable things are harmful because they can be used only once
B.In Beijing, people throw away about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 1, 320 tons of lunch bowls every month
C.We'd better use either cloth shopping bags or plastic ones in our daily life.
D.We should bring disposable toothbrushes and toothpaste wherever we travel
