【題目】 On a hot African morning, Leila was lying on her stomach and an elephant was walking towards her. Leila waited. Then she pushed the button on her camera. “And I got my best photo of an elephant ever, by lying under my car,” Leila explained. “I wanted to get close to the elephants, but of course this was dangerous; they had their babies with them. So every morning I used to park my car in the open near the path(小道). They used to take the same path every morning when they left the water hole. After a week, they were used to seeing my car. So the next morning, I lay under it and got my photo!”

Many of the best wildlife photos come from good planning. In Africa, photographers set up their hides(隱匿處) near water holes. They also set up hides near forest paths, as animals use the same paths every night. For bird-watching, there are many hides around lakes, too. Inside the hides, bird-watchers can watch all day in the shade(蔭處) out of the wind and rain.

Good wildlife photos are needed for books, postcards, magazine and newspapers. But only 5 percent of the photos you took may be good. It is not easy to take a good wildlife photo if you don’t have any good plans beforehand.

【題目】 Several days ago, one of my students came into my office, looking down. He thought he had too much stress — he has homework to do every day, he has too many after-school classes every weekend, he doesn’t like his history teacher, his younger sister is crying all the time when he needs a quiet environment to study, his parents always compare him with his classmates, ...

The problems are commonly seen on most of the Chinese students. I comforted my student with one sentence: Don’t you know you were much stronger than you thought?

Why did I say so? Because everyone has strength. What is strength? It is not always about physical strength. Rather, it is about will, training and the ability to get things done. I know some students who are clever, but they get very little done in their studies. And I know others find work extremely challenging, but are able to move mountains through hard work. They have inner strength. More interesting is that those hard-workers often don’t even notice the stress. When they are asked “How do you make it?”, the answers usually comes back: “I just work harder than the others.”

Some losers often have self-imposed(自己強(qiáng)加的) boundaries(邊界) — I can’t do that(Why?); that is too much for me(How do you know?); I can’t put in that much effort(What would happen if you did?). All these are limits(局限).

Then, how can they get stronger? By pushing themselves until the boundaries disappear. By pushing themselves until they get better.

1What can we know from the student’s words?

A.He was looking for something.

B.He was worried and unhappy.

C.His parents didn’t love him.

2Most Chinese students have problems with the following aspects(方面)EXCEPT _______.

A.schoolworkB.social relationshipC.teachers’ suggestions

3Why do some clever students achieve little?

A.Because they are not willing to spend time working hard.

B.Because the work is too challenging.

C.Because they know how much the stress is.

4If your friend complains(抱怨) “I’m not smart enough to solve that,” what the writer may say to him?

A.Let it go.

B.Believe in yourself.

C.Are you really sure about that if you haven’t tried hard?

5What can we infer(推斷) from the passage?

A.Hard-workers don’t have any stress.

B.People can find their inner strength through hard work.

C.By pushing themselves, people can get whatever they want.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word”hero”? 1 There are onscreen heroes like the superheroes in Avengers(復(fù)仇者),and also everyday heroes in our lives.

Whether they’re championship athletes, groundbreaking(開創(chuàng)性的)scientists, programmers changing the world with a keyboard, firefighters rushing into the burning building, artists creating the works of amazement, or a dog with a baby by his side, “hero” can be the word to describe them.

2

In general, a hero is someone selfless, courageous and brave. These qualities drive heroes to help others in times of need, even if they are scared. You can count on them to be there for you if something bad happens.

“The people that we set up as heroes are people that generally go above and beyond the call of duty.3” Nick Carden, a psychologist at the AAPHC Renaissance Center in the US said so.

However, why can some people be heroic? Nick Carden said, heroes are made. “They probably are people that have been influenced by and have been helped by or have been modeled or raised to have those as values.”

Common people—just like you and me—are heroes in their own way, simply just by doing their part for their families and communities. Cleaners, doctors, reporters, delivery workers, nurses, and bus drivers—the list goes on and on.4 And, sometimes, when there are emergencies, these common people show courage and bravery to help complete strangers in need.

Being a hero is the nature of human beings. “The decision to act heroically is a choice that mans or us will be called upon to make at some point in time. Heroism becomes something that seems in the range(范圍)of possibilities for every person, perhaps inspiring more of us to answer that call.” heroism researchers Zeno Franco and Philip Zimbardo wrote in Great Good Magazine.5 Be courageous, honest, and a person with integrity(正直). Because, once you are your own hero, you can truly do anything you set your mind to.

A.These common people help keep order in our day-to-day lives.

B.Is it someone who wears a cape(披風(fēng))and can fly in the air?

C.Only in this way, you can be your own hero.

D.Most importantly, you should make an effort to be your own hero.

E.They do things that are outstanding.

F.But what makes a person a hero?

【題目】閱讀短文,并按要求完成文后小題。

Every student spends lots of time studying and almost everyone would like their study to be more efficient (高效的). Here are two ways to help you manage your time better when studying.

Your study environment

Watching TV while studying is a bad idea and makes your study ineffective (無效的). So you’d better turn off the TV while you’re studying. Some students like listening to music while studying. Music is OK, but whether it helps or hurts depends on whether it can keep your mind at peace. Make sure that any music you listen to is actually helping you study, but not drawing your attention away. Good lighting and temperature are necessary, too. When it’s too hot or too cold, it will be harder for you to give all your attention to what you are working on.

Full attention for at least 40 minutes at a time

One of the most important things you can do to study efficiently is to give all the attention to your study for at least 40 minutes at a time. Don’t let anything else draw your attention away from the study during the period. Then have a rest and relax. Don’t study for too long a time because your brain gets tired and it needs a rest.

If you choose these ways, you will make an improvement in how you manage your time for study.
