【題目】閱讀下面的短文,然后將畫線部分的句子譯成漢語或英語。
If you find it hard to learn English, think of the foreigners who learn Chinese. The number of people learning Chinese around the world reached 100 million in 2017, 1. Europe’s first Chinese-English primary school recently opened in the British capital of London. But do you know how foreigners learn Chinese? Mike Fuksman, Teens’ foreign editor (編輯) from the United States, has lived in China for more than seven years. 2.他想和我們一起分享他學(xué)習(xí)中文的故事。
Like many foreigners, Mike only knew two words of Chinese (“hello” and “thank you”) when he came to China in 2009. As we can probably guess, his life was difficult for a while after he arrived.3. Simple tasks like ordering food or taking a taxi were quite stressful. Milk knew he had to learn more Chinese, so he signed up for a class. His teacher was very helpful, although Milk didn’t learn enough to have a real conversation. 4.后來,他也堅(jiān)持自學(xué),但是進(jìn)步緩慢。 He became very disappointed.
Finally, he found that the best way to learn Chinese is to make friends with native (本土的) speakers and spend time with them. Around this time, 5. Mike started playing in a band with a Chinese woman who became one of his best friends in Beijing. He learned a lot of Chinese by hanging out with her. In this way, he’s learned enough Chinese to take care of many tasks.

【題目】 There are not many people around who say they like rats(老鼠). When you see one of them, you may want to run in the opposite direction.
There is one man though who has always enjoyed staying with rats, even when he was a young boy. His name is Bart Weetjens and he comes from Belgium in Europe. As he grew up, he learned everything about rats. He knew that they have a very strong sense of smell. He realized that it might be possible to train rats to help solve a problem that troubled some Southeast Asian countries.
Clearing away unexploded bombs and landmines(未爆炸的炸彈和地雷) is a difficult job. Bart began to train rats to look for explosives. Because a rat’s sense of smell is so strong, they are able to smell a thing known as TNT that is used in bombs. And because rats are not heavy, if they place their weight on an unexploded bomb, they will not cause it to explode(爆炸).
Bart chose African Giant Pouched Rats for the job. They are well known for being calm and smart. Training begins when they are about six weeks old, and it lasts for nine months. Once trained, one rat can search up to 200m in 20 minutes. The same area would take a human up to four days. Trained rats are known as Mine Detection Rats, or MDRs, and they have worked successfully in Cambodia since 2015.

【題目】 Smile Train is a charity ( 慈善團(tuán)體) that helps the millions of children around the world, who suffer from a facial defect( 缺 陷 ). The defect happens when a baby’s top lip or mouth doesn’t form properly before birth. Eating and drinking is very difficult for these babies. The charity provides free operations, which give these children a new smile, and with it, new hope and a new beginning.
Children with the defect need all the help. Although many sufferers are accepted by their families, sadly, others are not. In some countries, children with this defect are often abandoned at birth because their parents feel ashamed( 尷 尬 )of them or cannot afford the operations. The charity raises money and finds the right medical volunteers to perform the operations.
A Smile Train doctor from the UK said, “Each child who has the operation is given a second chance at life. After years of staying at home, the children can finally go to school and be happy. Every year I perform hundreds of operations free of cost through Smile Train. Some of the stories I have heard are quite surprising.
