【題目】閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容完成句子。

My father used to work in the city and seldom stayed at home. But he would come back help to harvest rice every year.

One autumn, he promised to help our neighbor, who lost his arms in a traffic accident in 1999, to harvest his rice. After father harvested our own, his little rice picker broke. What’s worse, he had to return to work the next day because his partner was ill in hospital. It meant that father wouldn't be back in a few days. It now seemed impossible to help out the neighbor.

Father told us that he wouldn't let the neighbor’s rice rot(糜爛)in the field. He decided to harvest it by hand without a machine. “If tonight’s weather is clear, I think I can do it,” added my father. In fact, he was rather tired after a day’s harvest work.

After dinner, father had a short rest and made his way to the field. A full moon was glowing(發(fā)光)in the sky and the weather was cold but clear. He spent the whole night keeping his word.

I would never forget the image(畫面)-- Father was cutting rice in the light of the harvest moon. Behind him, row after row of rice stocks(稻稈)stood at attentionshowing respect for a man who kept his word.

1The writer’s father seldom stayed at home, but he would return home to _________ .

2_________ happened to the neighbor in 1999.

3The writer’s father was required to return to work because _________ .

4Father helped the neighbor harvest rice in the field without _________ .

【題目】(A)根據(jù)短文回答問題。

Rachel Beckwith is a little girl. For her 9th birthday, she didn’t ask for toys, dolls or a new pair of shoes. Instead, she made a selfless(無私的)wish: She wanted her friends and family to donate money to the charity for water, so that people in developing countries could have clean drinking water.

“On June 12th,2011,I’m turning 9,” she wrote on her fundraising(募捐)page. “I found that millions of people don’t live to see their 5th birthday. And why? Because they didn’t have clean or safe water, so I’m celebrating my birthday like never before. I’m asking everyone I know to donate instead of buying gifts for my birthday.”

Rachel’s goal amount was $300,but she only raised $220 from her friends and family. That didn’t bother her much, though—she thought she could raise more the following year. Unluckily, that’s not to be: Rachel was a passenger in one of the 14 cars involved(牽涉)in a highway accident. After spending several days in a hospital, she closed her eyes on Saturday. The news of her death became known, and so did the story of her fundraising wish. Now, Rachel’s fundraising page has received donations from more than four thousand people, over $84,000.All of that money will go towards building wells in developing countries.

1When was Rachel born?

2Why didn’t many children in developing countries live to be 5 years old?

3How did Rachel do to make her wish come true?

【題目】Drawing might help you think

When you're sitting in class, have you ever drawn pictures in the margins of your notebooks?

If so, your teacher might have told you 1(stop). Many people think of doodling(涂鴉) as a distraction(精神渙散) from more important things. But it might be just the opposite.

One study shows that doodling may help you remember things you hear. In 2009 researchers asked two groups of people to listen to a phone message. One group 2 (encourage) to doodle, but the other was not. Neither group knew that it would be asked to remember information from the message. But the group that doodled remembered 29 percent more.

Other people 3 (suggest)other uses for drawing. Jesse Prinz, a professor who studies doodling, says it can help you think creatively. Walking away from a problem to draw

might actually help you solve it. When you come back, you 4 (have)a fresh perspective and figure out an answer more quickly.

Two years ago, an author named Sunni Brown 5 (write)a book on doodling. She argues that doodling is a tool that can help people think. She admits that people see doodling

as doing nothing, but she wants to change that. In fact, she runs a business that helps companies

improve organization and planning through doodling. Brown 6 (believe)doodling is helpful because it incorporates(整合)many ways of learning. You lean in four ways: seeing, hearing, reading or writing, and through movement. The more ways you use, the better you learn.

And when you doodle while you 7 (listen )to a lecture, you use all four.

You might think that being good at 8 ( draw)is important for doodling. But if the point of doodling is to help you think, then it doesn't matter what the picture looks like. Even if you're not an artist, doodling can help you. So next time you need help focusing, pick up a pen and doodle away!
