【題目】 The coldest months of winter have arrived. But Woodchurch High School in the UK has had a winter coat rule. It has banned (禁止)students from wearing expensive coats after Christmas.
This is to stop “poverty-shaming(貧困羞辱)” among its students. Coat brands like Canada Goose and Moncler sell for 1,000(8, 674yuan), a cost that only the richest families are able to afford. Poor students feel left out when they see others wear these coats.
“These coats cause a lot of unfairness,” head teacher Rebekah Phillips told CNN. “They stigmatize(使……感到羞愧) students and parents who are less rich.”
Most parents are happy with the rule, saying that school shouldn't be a place where students’ economic(經(jīng)濟(jì)上的) background distracts(使分心) them from learning. Small changes like this have led low-income(低收入的) students to become busier in school.
But some people don't agree with it. They ask why children shouldn't be allowed to wear clothes that keep them warm in winter. “Each child should be allowed to choose what he or she wants to wear,” Jillian Roberts, a teacher at the University of Victoria in Canada said.
But Woodchurch isn’t the first school to take such steps. In May, a UK primary school didn’t allow to bring expensive pencil cases. The US state of New Mexico even passed a law saying that it is against the law to separate or humiliate (羞辱)a child who can't pay for his or her lunch at school.

【2】How do poor students feel when they see others wear expensive coats?

【題目】 You might have learned in your science classes that the sun is quite large and heavy. What if you heard that we’ve found a black hole that contains the mass (質(zhì)量) of nearly 70 suns?
Chinese scientists used LAMOST, a powerful Chinese telescope (望遠(yuǎn)鏡), as well as telescopes in Hawaii and the Canary Islands, to make this discovery.
According to Einstein’s theory, black holes come from dying stars. The star collapses (坍塌) into a small point with a lot of mass and strong gravity (引力). The strong gravity of the black hole allows it to pull other things in and “eat” them. Scientists search for black holes by looking at x-rays that are released when they “eat” nearby stars. However, when black holes are inactive, this method doesn’t work.
This time, the researchers looked at stars that orbit invisible (看不見(jiàn)的) objects. These objects, they believe, cannot be anything but black holes. After calculating (計(jì)算) the speed of one particular star in a star system named LB-1, the scientists figured out that it was orbiting (繞軌道運(yùn)行) a stellar-mass black hole.
The black hole’s mass is about 70 times the mass of our sun. According to current theory, this black hole shouldn’t even be able to exist. It was previously believed that the mass of such a black hole cannot be bigger than that of 25 suns. Stellar (星球的) winds blow away the heavy elements that are left behind when a star dies. But somehow, this black hole kept most of its heavy elements.
Researchers said it is possible that the black hole formed out of two large stars that died and merged (結(jié)合) together.
The discovery is also inspiring some researchers to revisit their previous studies. “This discovery forces us to re-examine our models of how stellar-mass black holes form,” University of Florida physicist David Reitze was quoted as saying in a press release.
【1】How did Chinese scientists find the stellar-mass black hole?
A.By looking at stars moving away from the black hole.
B.By studying x-rays that came from the black hole.
C.By calculating the gravity of a nearby black hole.
D.By looking at the speed of a star that orbits it.
【2】What does the underlined word “inactive” mean in Chinese?
A.積極的B.不活躍的C.快速的D.活潑的
【3】What do we know about the black hole?
A.It is much heavier than the sun.B.It is moving faster than the sun.
C.It hasn’t “eaten” any stars.D.It will disappear soon.
【4】What is the last paragraph about?
A.The importance of this discovery.
B.Previous studies on black holes.
C.The formation (形成構(gòu)成) of stellar-mass black holes.
D.The preparations that were done before making this discovery.
【5】What do we know from the story?
A.Black holes are usually heavier than 25 suns.
B.We cannot believe current scientific theories.
C.Black holes can form after stars die.
D.Stellar-mass black holes contain no heavy elements.

【題目】 US writer Margaret Lee Runbeck once wrote, Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of travelling. But travelling is not always happy, at least for the buddies in the movie green Book. The popular film won Best Picture at the 91st Academy Awards on Feb 25.
The movie was adapted from the true story of a road trip through the southern US in the early 1960s. In the film, the black pianist Don Shirley hires Italian-American Tony Vallelonga to drive him to performances, but they face problems because of Shirley's skin color. These problems lead them to form a special friendship.
“There's something so deeply right about this movie, so true to the time,” wrote US film critic Mick LaSalle. The time La Salle is talking about was between late 1870s and 1960s, a very different period in US history. Many parts of the country had Jim Crow laws, which allowed racial segregation(種族隔離).
These laws made life and travel dangerous for African-Americans. They couldn't use certain hotels, restaurants, or even gas stations. They had to be indoors after sunset or they might go to jail. Even black celebrities had to follow the laws.
But in 1936, a black postman named Victor H. Green made a list of friendly businesses in New York City. He published the list as a small book with a green cover. The Green Book helped African-Americans travel more safely. Then, in 1964 ,Jim Crow laws went away. The book went away, too.
Today many US people still remember the time of Jim Crow. But they probably don’t know about The Green Book. It's a forgotten part of the story. Thanks to this movie, maybe people can remember it again.
