【題目】閱讀下列短文,從短文后各題所給的A,B,C,D四個選項中,選出最佳選項
Last fall a beaver moved into the small stream beside our house. He began taking down small trees right away. and in a couple of weeks our stream turned into a pond(水塘).Every day,he added more to his dam(水壩)and to his house. We're sure you've all heard the saying, "as busy as a beaver". Now, we understand this saying as we saw the work that this beaver did over a very short period of time.
We thought that would be the last of the beaver's busy activity as winter came. To our amazement, however, he started chewing(咀嚼)on a very large tree. The tree was over 18 meters tall and around 1.5 meters in diameter(直徑).We were amazed at the challenge this beaver was trying. All winter, he chewed and chewed. He had setbacks(挫折)as we faced major winter storms and ice-cold weather. But sure enough, when the weather allowed, he would come back and chew a bit more.
The beaver's first goal(目標)was to survive--to build home for the winter. Working every day with that goal in mind, he successfully achieved that goal. But the large tree he started chewing on last fall was a future goal一he wanted the large tree to provide new food and branches(樹枝)for the coming spring. Even with the setbacks he faced over the winter, he never gave up until he reached it.
Our beaver's experience reminds us that we need to set goals for tomorrow. Sometimes just surviving seems to take up all of our time. But, if you do just a little bit when time allows and stick to your future goal, you will achieve it.
When faced with setbacks, have your goal in heart and don't let the setbacks stop you. Keep chewing like the beaver, and you will achieve your goal in the end.

【題目】閱讀理解

Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or, in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time—about eight hours after you wake up—your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy.
Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day. The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.
In many parts of the world, people takenapsin the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer(遭受) less from problems such as heart disease. Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers do not allow it!
If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap—even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.
(1)Why do you sometimes feel sleepy in the early afternoon?
A.Because it's very hot in summer.
B.Because you eat too much for lunch.
C.Because you didn't have a good sleep last night.
D.Because your body temperature goes down at that time.
(2)What advice does the writer give on taking a nap?
A.If your time is limited, a short nap can also help.
B.Only people in warmer climate need to take a nap.
C.You'd better take a nap about an hour after you have lunch.
D.You can sleep as long as you like so that you won't feel tired or sleepy.
(3)What can we learn about “naps” according to the third paragraph?
A.Doctors need to take naps while employers don't.
B.Taking naps is helpful for people's health in spring and summer.
C.If you take naps every day, you'll have less risk of heart disease.
D.All the people in warmer climates take naps in the middle of the day.
(4)What can we infer(推斷) from the passage?
A.You will feel less sleepy if you sleep for a long time.
B.Taking a nap whenever you want will do good to your health.
C.If you get up at 6:30 am, you'd better take a nap at about 2:30 pm.
D.Sleeping for eight hours and you'll feel sleepy a short period later.
(5)What would be the best title for the text?
A.Just For a Rest.
B.All For a Nap.
C.A Special Sleep Pattern.
D.Taking Naps in Warmer Climate.

【題目】閱讀理解

For years people have enjoyed following the life of Garfield the cat. Garfield is a popular comic book character, known for being lazy and fat. But the cat was back in the news recently for something you might not expect.
A man in the United States changed the gender (性別) of Garfield to “none” on the cat's Wikipedia (維基百科) page. After that lots of people got angry and kept changing Garfield's Wikipedia page. They argued about whether the cat was a boy, girl or neither.
Wikipedia finally locked the page to stop people editing it. Jim Davis, Garfield's creator, settled (解決) the argument.
“Garfield is male (男性),” he simply told the Washington Post. The 71-year-old artist said he liked working with animals because they didn't have to be old, young, boys or girls. He was angry that some people cared so much about Garfield's gender.
It seems like quite an unnecessary argument to have. But it is not the only recent example of argument about gender.
To celebrate International Women's Day in Australia earlier this year, the city of Melbourne made 10 traffic lights with a figure (人形) dressed in a skirt. They were designed to celebrate women and give them more confidence in public.
But not everyone thinks the idea is necessary. Some people think it is important for women to be treated fairly in Australia, but that this idea is silly.
“I'm all for doing anything we can for gender equity (公平), but really?” Melbourne mayor (市長) Robert Doyle told the Herald Sun. The mayor said this idea is more likely to be laughed at than bring respect to women.
(1)What put Garfield the cat back in the news recently?
A.The cat's lazy character.
B.Being included in Wikipedia.

A.Wikipedia should lock the page about Garfield
B.Garfield can be a boy or a girl, and young or old
C.artists don't care about animals' age or gender
D.it's unnecessary to take Garfield's gender seriously
(3)Why did Melbourne make 10 traffic lights with a figure dressed in a skirt?
A.To laugh at women in public
B.To celebrate International Women's Day
C.To bring more chances to women
D.To treat women fairly in Australia
(4)What did Melbourne mayor Robert Doyle think of the traffic light idea?
A.It would give women more confidence in public.
B.It would help women be treated fairly in Australia.
C.It would bring respect to women.
D.It was not a good idea for gender equity.
