This is the finding of a 40—year study in London. It showed that the children who worked hard in childhood had a richer and a happier future. Brown's study followed 456 children. It compared the children's mental health（心理健康）with their childhood activity. The children who do part—time jobs, housework or work hard in school are much better at dealing with problems when they grow up.

Working at any age is important. Childhood activities help a child have the sense of responsibility（責(zé)任）, independence, confidence（自信）and competence （競(jìng)爭(zhēng)）. They also help him understand that people must learn to work with others. The most successful people are those who know how to do this.

However, work isn't everything. As Tolstoy once said, “One can live wonderfully in this world if one knows how to work and how to love, to work for the person one loves and to love one's work.”
