【題目】閱讀下文并回答問題。
The meaning of silence is different among different cultures.
Many people in some Asian cultures think silence is a basic part of communication. When a traditional Chinese or Thai is speaking and suddenly stops, he probably wants the listener to consider what he has said before he continues. Many people may think silence is a sign of respect (尊重), especially to an elder or a person with power.
Western cultures may use silence in other ways. In America, if you keep silent in a conversation, the speaker may think you’re impolite or not listening to them carefully. Russian, French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show they agree with the discussion of the topic. However, Mexicans may keep silent when instructions(指示,命令) are given by a person with a lot of power, even though they don’t agree with the instructions.
In our daily life, if we know the exact meaning of one’s silence, it’s quite helpful, too. A man was ill in hospital. One morning, when the nurse said “Hello!” to him, he said “Hello!” back. “How are you feeling now?” the nurse continued. But the man lay in bed and looked at the nurse, saying nothing. “Not well, right? Then I will check it for you, OK? ” the patient was still silent. Then the nurse passed him a cup of warm water. He drank it quickly. After that, the nurse checked up his health. “Mr. Smith, your blood pressure is a little high. But don’t worry, you’ll soon be well again after taking some medicine.” The man smiled and said, “You’re the best nurse I’ve ever met.” You see, this is how silence works.

【題目】From Baby’s Doodles (亂涂) to Mother’s Paintings
It all started by accident (偶然) when Eve discovered her mother’s ink pen and loved using it.
Eve’s mother, Ruth is so artistic that she is able to change Eve’s random (隨意的) lines into shapes which are easily recognized (辨認). A random curve (曲線) becomes an elephant’s ear, and crooked (彎曲的) lines become the branches of a tree. Nothing seems to escape her eye — she can see and paint the outline of a woman’s face or the hooked nose of a bird where most people would just see meaningless scratches (亂涂亂畫).
Since then, the mother and daughter have worked together on several quite attractive pieces. The process begins with Eve using a black ink pen to make her “sketches” (草圖). Later, Ruth takes over with her water-colours, quickly turning the doodles into a “grown-up” painting.
“All of the pieces are completed within 30 to 60 minutes, the reason for this is that I don’t want to give myself any room to over analyze (過度分析) or second guess,” Ruth wrote on her blog.
According to Ruth, children can help bring out creativity in adults. “As we get older, we tend to (趨向于) create a box that everything is supposed to fit neatly into. As a child, there is no box. It is just endless freedom to explore any and every possibility of creativity and adventure,” she said. “I feel so blessed that my daughter can remind me once again what it is like to paint like a child.”
【1】What does Eve NOT draw using her mother’s ink pen?
A. The Branches of a tree.B. Crooked lines.

When I was young, I always wanted a cat. But my parents disagreed. Every year I would ask for a cat, but I always got the same answer, “No.” My father said, “Cats are dirty and smell terrible.” Then it was my mom’s turn, “65. 我認為我們照顧不了貓。”
Right when I was about to give up hope, my seventeenth birthday came. My parents still disagreed, but my friends were a different story. They showed up at my front door on that day. 66. I jumped up and down happily because my dream had finally come true!
After a long time, Bandit was able to successfully mix in my family. I had prepared a lot of plans for Bandit and me. I wanted to paint pictures of us, go on road trips and dress up in fashionable clothes together. 67. 令我驚訝的是,Bandit是我曾見過的最害羞的貓。He hated joining me and I often shouted at him.
Later he became closer to my mom. 68. In my opinion, nobody loved him more than I did. However, he loved my mom more. I asked my mom why. “What I do have is patience,” Mom told me. 69. Ever since then, Bandit has been teaching me to be more patient. Because of him, I became more responsible, too.
