How do you like your school? Have you ever written to your headmaster to express your idea? Here are some letters written by students from different schools.

Luke, 14, from Jiangsu

I will give some suggestions about our school uniform. In our school, we students have to wear uniform every day. But the yellow and green sports kit (服裝) looks really dark and old. It can’t stand for young and lively spirit. We can add some red or orange colors and make a new type of uniform. I hope our headmaster will think about it.

Danny, 14, from Zhejiang

I have two suggestions for my headmaster. First of all, I think we should have more hobby classes in science, such as plane model making class and computer programming class. It is really boring to study basic subjects all the time. And second, I hope we can have more PE lessons or more time for physical exercise. Lots of students now don’t have a strong enough body.

Sam, 15, from Shanxi

I’d like to say thank you to my headmaster. About one week ago, I got a bad cold after playing basketball. Our headmaster came to me after he knew about it. He took care of me until my parents came. I really want to thank him for that.

Helen, 14, from Shandong

In the letter I wrote, I want to talk about the possibility of personal classes. Now many middle schools are trying the “personal class" system. Students don’t have regular classes. They can choose lessons they want to take. I think it is more effective. And it is also good for exercise. We don’t have to stay in one classroom all the time.

1.Luke gives some suggestions about ______ in his letter.

A. hobby classes B. personal classes C. school uniform D. basketball playing

2.The reasons why Danny gives two suggestions are that ______.

A. students have too few classes every day and they love sports

B. studying basic subjects only is boring and students are too weak

C. hobby classes are interesting and students have no PE lessons at all

D. students want to cancel the basic subjects and they want to have more sports lessons

3.According to the passage, most students write to their headmasters about ______.

A. personal experiences B. how to make schools better

C. spare time activities D. how to deal with other students

“Beauty is only skin deep.” This expression means that beauty is only a temporary and surface(暫時而表面的) quality. And some beauty products can cause lasting harm that goes far below the surface of the skin. But people, especially women, will take a lot of risks for beauty.

In the United States, many people use sunlight and non-natural light to darken their skin. Health experts are against it, because it may lead to skin cancer.

In the African country of Senegal, some women take health risks trying to do just the opposite. They use products that lighten the skin. The World Health Organization says that 25 percent of Senegalese women use skin-lightening products. These products can have some chemicals such as mercury, hydroquinone and sodium hydroxide (汞、對苯二酚和氫氧化鈉). These are dangerous ingredients (成份) that can cause cancer and possibly other physical harm to the skin. They can even burn the eyes and skin.

Women in Senegal say they lighten their skin for the same reasons: women all over the world make changes to their looks. They say they want to look beautiful, to find a husband, or to stand out in a crowd. But some products are so strong. THEY must be mixed with others before they are used.

A woman filmmaker Khardiata Sall from Senegal made a movie “This Color That Worries Me”. It’s about the subject of skin lightening. “I used the most scary pictures so that women would clearly see the dangers. It is hard to understand why a woman would tell herself that dark skin is not beautiful. It is in their heads. They want to please a man, to be loved. Or they want to please the society, to succeed.” Ms. Sall says the government needs to better control the market and the sale of skin lightening products. But she adds education is the best way to tell people against using them.

1.According to the passage, Khardiata Sall ___________.

A. is a white woman B. works as an actor

C. is against skin-lightening D. wants to be white

2.The word “THEY” in the fourth paragraph means____________.

A. mercury, hydroquinone and sodium hydroxide B. women in Senegal

C. all skin-lightening products D. some strong skin-lightening products

3.According to the passage, if you are a women in Senegal, you may go out of your way to change your skin color because ___________.

A. you want to please your parents B. you want to make changes to your hobbies

C. you want to look better than men D. you want to find a good job

4.If you put the passage into three parts, which of the following is the best?

( ①=Para. (自然段)1 ②=Para. 2 ③=Para.3 ④=Para.4 ⑤=Para.5 )

A. ①;②;③④⑤ B. ①;②③;④⑤ C. ①②;③;④⑤ D. ①②③;④;⑤
