Weekends are short. They are only two days out of a seven-day week. In order to make your weekends look longer, you need to plan it better. Here are some ideas.
★Get up at your usual time. The biggest mistake(錯(cuò)誤) is to think that the weekend is a good chance(機(jī)會(huì)) for a sleep-in. So getting up early can make you feel the weekends are longer.

★Go out to enjoy weekends. Weekends feel longer if you get out and enjoy them. Think about what you like to do. Plan a sports activity, for example, playing football in the park. You can also plan to go to a museum, a zoo, or a park.

Christmas is as important to British people as Spring Festival is to us. Every year on Dec 25, English people gather together to celebrate this holiday. It is the most important family gathering of the whole year.
In the UK, people start preparing for Christmas soon after Halloween — as early as the beginning of November! In every shop window I pass on my way to school, I see Santa decorations (裝飾), candy canes (拐杖糖) and presents. The whole of London is getting ready for Christmas.
One tradition in the UK is to have an advent calendar (圣誕倒數(shù)日歷). It has 24 little flaps (片狀小門) that you can open starting from Dec1. There is a tiny gift behind each flap. It can be makeup, chocolate or stationery, depending on what kind of calendar you buy. You can open one flap each day until you get to the last flap on the morning of Dec 25! This tradition began in the mid-19th century in Protestant areas (新教徒地區(qū)) in Germany.
Another interesting tradition began in 1954. Every November, London is lit up by thousands of decorative lights. The lights are shaped like the common symbols of Christmas, such as angels, reindeers (馴鹿) and Christmas trees. It is a breathtaking sight from far away and it is wonderful how the colors create an atmosphere of celebration.
In London, we don’t celebrate Christmas for only one day. You can feel the festive mood around the whole city from November until January.

Children in England will no longer be able to buy energy drinks. The UK government has made plans to ban (禁止) the sale of energy drinks to kids. It is now asking for public suggestions as to what age the ban should start at (16 or 18), the BBC reported.
An energy drink is a type of drink that contains stimulants (興奮劑), such as caffeine (咖啡因). Red Bull is one of the most famous energy drinks. The makers of these drinks say that they can give you energy when you feel tired.
However, these drinks have very high levels of caffeine. Too much caffeine can lead to health problems, such as headaches and sleeplessness. A 250 ml can of Red Bull contains about 80 mg of caffeine, three times the level of a can of Coca-Cola, the Guardian noted.
Energy drinks have 65 percent more sugar than normal soft drinks. This may explain why obesity (肥胖) rates have risen among children.
In the UK, more than two-thirds of 10 to 17-year-olds buy energy drinks, according to government data. “Childhood obesity is one of the greatest health challenges this country faces. It is important that we do all we can to make sure children have the best start in life,” UK Prime Minister Theresa May said in a statement.
The ban would apply to (應(yīng)用于) drinks containing more than 150 mg of caffeine per liter. Under the ban, shops in England that sell the drinks to children would face fines (罰款) of up to £2,500 (22,070 yuan).
1.What is an energy drink?
_____________________________________________________________________________
2.How many fines would shops in England face if they sell energy drinks to kids?
_______________________________________________________________________________
3.Will you go on drinking energy drinks since China doesn’t ban the sale of energy drinks to kids? Why?

After her father questioned Hadjara’s head teacher, he understood the importance of hand-washing and his daughter’s intentions(目的).
