We are often told to pay attention to what our mothers tell us. Most of us enjoy listening to our mothers speak. Scientists have found that compared(和……相比較) to other people's voices, our brains greatly prefer the voices of our own mothers.

Scientists at Stanford University, US, recently studied this. They scanned children's brains while they were listening to different sounds, including their mothers' voices. They found that 97 percent of the time, children could recognize(認(rèn)出) their mothers' voices at once.

Hearing their mothers' voices makes children's brains more active. We usually just use one part of our brain to deal with sounds when we hear something. Recent development has made possible machines that print, cook, and serve a large number of foods. And the industry(產(chǎn)業(yè)) isn’t stopping there.

Food production

With a 3D printer, a cook can print complicated(復(fù)雜的) chocolate sculptures and beautiful pieces for decoration on a wedding cake. Not everybody can do that — it takes years of experience, but a printer makes it easy. Challenges

Though there are great developments in 3D food printing, the industry has many challenges to overcome. Australia is a country of immigrants(移民). Around 50 percent of students in Melbourne come from other countries. Therefore, we read many articles about foreigners’ lives in Australia. The book has lots of short stories. Among them, I like Inner Courtyard(內(nèi)庭，內(nèi)院) best. It is about an Italian family. An 11-year-old blind girl is proud of walking alone every day to and from school. Why? She has to walk past so many barriers (障礙物) in her way. The girl's home is near the school, yet her mother follows her without letting her know.

The case of the girl shows the barrier-free(障礙物) facilities (設(shè)施) are not enough in her city. Many other cities are short of barrier-free facilities as well. There's no well-designed path for the blind. In fact. in the early 2000s, some cities started to build barrier-free facilities for disabled people. However, almost 20 years later, only a few large cities have had facilities of high quality.

It's common that sidewalks are taken up with barriers. Few workers are sent to move them away, so it's dangerous for the blind to walk on them. Also, some other barrier-free facilities are badly destroyed（毀壞）. Only a few workers are assigned (分配) to do the task of repairing the broken ones.

Some ideas can make a difference — build more barrier-free facilities, employ(雇用) more of workers and require money. In a word, more money is needed to carry on with the work. It’s our duty to make life easy for disabled people, so that they can live without barriers some day.
